Also, VAG will almost certainly consider their obligations on fuel economy and CO2 emissions met (by keeping them the same) if the numbers on the official test cycle come out the same. You'll have a very hard time convincing them based on on-the-road calculations you do yourself.

 

 

mmmm, do they have obligations on MPG? on emissions yes, HMG set those but all factory MPG are, frankly, fictional

In this case the obligation on fuel economy is their undertaking to customers that it would be unaffected. Emissions rules are not set by HMG either, they're set in Brussels.

 

The official economy/emissions figures are obtained under controlled conditions according to a set protocol. What they offer is a level playing field for comparison in the showroom, or in this case before/after a major change in operating software.

 

Given the huge number of variables[1] that influence economy on the road the official figures are only ever going to be an approximation to what you'll achieve. It also means the manufacturer is unlikely to listen to complaints about single figure percentage variations in fuel economy.

 

 

 

[1] Driving style, load in/on the car, weather (humidity, temperature, precipitation), time of day (air temperature variation), level of traffic, type of driving (open road vs town), service history, aircon usage, other ancillary usage, fuel quality.

Assuming the car was running fine before the recall and given the fact that there are only potential disadvantages to having it done I can't understand why people are letting Skoda fiddle with their cars?

 

Sign the form and tell Skoda not to touch the map on your car...

Just in case there is still any doubt for those who have yet to have the recall done, sign this form and forget all about it.

 

Unless you have a burning desire to reduce NOx at the sacrifice of other measures then there is zero reason to have the recall done, only significant risk.

I ignored the first "Action Required" letter but have now received a an "Outstanding Action Required" letter. Anyone else had one?

Yes, I had one about a week ago from DVSA. I filed it with the first one, my car is now out of warranty and I will probably switch to a local independent garage, I have used for years, for the superbs next service and MOT. I am waiting to see how all this pans out before having any work done.

I have always used a trusted local independent VAG specialist for servicing and repairs, both for my two previous Octavias and now for my Superb. I prefer not to use main dealers.

Yes, just had the second letter today.  There's no mention in either the first or the second letter about opting-out of having the 23R6 service action performed and, in my opinion, although the letters are from Skoda UK they try to convey an unwarranted and rather threatening sense of official authority by bearing the DVSA logo.

 

About three weeks ago I emailed Honest John to ask what he thought the legal position was about not having the emissions fix implemented; in his reply he stated that no-one knows [about the legal position] and that the fix seems to have been temporarily suspended for 2.0TDi VW Tiguans, which seem to have suffered quite heavily from having the fix done.  HJ also indicated that he definitely wouldn't take the risk of having the fix done if it were his car...  Read into that what you will...!!

 

I wonder what Skoda UK's next step will be if I continue to refrain from booking the car in to get the service action done.

Declined the update during the annual service this week - was only asked for a reason they could enter into the system, didn't have to sign anything.

 

Received the follow up letter the next day, usual vague details about resolving the issue without saying exactly what the update would do or what the outcome would be.

 

Did notice they'd added no impact to torque output onto the list of things that won't (in theory) be impacted.

Got my 2nd letter this week, I spoke to a owner of a superb in the village today and he as had his updated. The big surprise was when he said it's actually improved it, says he travels down to London from Cumbria and the mpg as improved

He recommended getting it done

If it's the same update/fix why have some been unlucky reporting don't get it done then others saying it's no problem

I have a suspicion a lot of it is to do with the condition of the EGR system. It's one of the systems that's adjusted in the remap and I'd be willing to bet that people who have run into trouble with the update have had EGR issues on the way anyway and this update has uncovered them a bit quicker.

All these recall threads.. please explain, WHY would VAG even bother to make your car WORSE if this scandal has cost em billions of dollars already? Damn, this placebo-thingie really got to some peoples head.

Can not believe the above statement. :peek: 

In fact there is so much wrong with it that it would take too long to explain to you...............

If you have posted this you obviously haven't a clue about the story so maybe get reading as your car will be involved :thumbdown:

Well, let's just agree to disagree then. A very good friend of mine works as a VW Technician and he's done a 80+ cars so far from the VAG Group and not a single one has ever complained or claimed that their car responds or behaves different. 

 

So yes, placebo much?

The Fleet users & individuals that monitor fuel use will know come time if there is any adverse affect on economy.

 

It surprises many how drivers do not notice the tyre pressures a new car might leave a dealership with after a PDI and hand over and find out they may be over or under inflated

only when they check at some point down the line, or someone else does.

Many are not aware of differences of fuels they purchase and how a vehicle performs on them.

 

Its how drivers are often, unaware of very much to do with vehicles.

The DVLA / DVSA / DfT help in giving the contact details for Registered keepers and do not make a DVLA recall because that would put them in the position 

of ensuring that the VW Group do take Recall Actions.

 

Legally VW in the UK are on their sticky wicket and can not put pressure on owners and keepers of vehicles for them to do anything to them.

Sadly the UK Government are still letting the tail wag the dog.

 

Sign nothing with any VW Group agents that want to do work unless they are signing a document where they take responsibility for the actions of VW in 

supplying a vehicle that had a Defeat Device illegally installed before it was sold.

A non factory approved engine management very like the VW Group usually says invalidates a manufacturers warranty.

(ie like a remap.)

It must not be Factory Approved if the VW Board and all the CEO's of VW, Skoda, Seat, Audi and Porsche were unaware.

 

Of course you can just go with the Flow, or the Plastic Flow improver and get your vehicle 'Fixed', 

but VW are then not no longer responsible for any changes in the vehicle from as it was.

 

If your car runs better and uses less fuel, then maybe make a donation to some charity with the money you save.

I have said this all along.... millions are already p****** off why P*** them off more an get more bad press... 

 

A lot of owners want issues after the update...after all it all adds weight to the £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ signs they keep seeing when they think they can claim.... If it makes no difference the claim is out the window....

 

Mine is supposed to be involved although I have only seen the letter telling me it is involved, I have had nothing to tell me to get it booked in....

Doesn't it say 'peak torque' which to me reads 'usable torque lower down in the rev range has now been decreased'

Anyone that recently bought a Skoda Approved used car or just a Used Skoda might find that 'The Fix; has now been done, 

or then maybe not because a Skoda Approved Used cars does not even mean a Service was carried out or that even Service Campaign work outstanding gets carried out

so maybe no different with The Fix.
