Emission remap

Recommended Posts

Stuart, you and i bought our cars at about the same time. I also have not had a recall. Do think VW got wind of this before we bought ours and all is ok with them :D

Euro 6 emissions standards came into force from September 2014 so any cars made for the 2015 model year and later would have been made to this standard. It is certainly possible that VAG had some knowledge of the issues that surfaced with the Euro 5 engines and got ahead of the game on the Euro 6 ones.

Anyone that recently bought a Skoda Approved used car or just a Used Skoda might find that 'The Fix; has now been done,

or then maybe not because a Skoda Approved Used cars does not even mean a Service was carried out or that even Service Campaign work outstanding gets carried out

so maybe no different with The Fix.

Depends on the engine. I have a later coded one CF something that has yet to have the fix applied. I bought my car mid last month.

Apparently it will be due in the new year.

Late 2015 after the Defeat Device Scandal emerged in September the VWG were no longer allowed to first register or sell Euro 5 1.2, 1.6 & 2.0 TDI's that were already built.

Some slipped though and were sold (or handed over / delivered / leased etc) because they were first registered, Demonstrators etc.

'From September 2015 all new cars bought must be Euro 6 emissions standards'.

This is what is quoted in article after article on what 'Euro 6 emissions mean to you.'  (years before they were saying September 2014)

Google it, Auto Express / Autocar etc have articles.

Why would VW risk annoying their customers anymore by making the car worse?

I'll tell you why, because they have no choice but to do something, anything. Their hands are tied, they are over a barrel, however you want to say it. Doing nothing isn't an option.

Implement a so-called fix that satisfies the regularity bodies, that is priority no.1.

Us, the consumer, the customer, their loyal followers are way down the list of people they need to keep happy.

You think you car is more fuel efficient, drives better? Everyone's a winner.

You think you car is less fuel efficient, drives worse, fails sooner? Prove it!

I've said it before, I'll say it again, if you are happy to believe large global organisations PR departments then go get the car fixed.

Reducing emissions can only be achieved with a compromise. Remember if it was that easy VAG would have done it before they got caught with their trousers down and without having billions of Dollars wiped off their value overnight.

Happy motoring chaps.

Still no sign of the 1.6 campaign starting by Skoda UK. I am sure they said owners would be invited to get their cars updated around about now.   My car is in for a service this week so will enquire with the dealer as to what is happening.  Does anyone know if VW have started doing the 1.6 Passats and Golfs ?

As I recall, the original time scale for 1.6 diesels was September. I have heard nothing about any of the VAG 1.6 cars being "fixed", as you might call it.

My Greenline was in for it's 90k service two days ago. I enquired about the software/hardware update but the dealer hasn't heard anything from Skoda HQ so no fixes at the moment.

Call Skoda UK CS or what ever customer services and see if the Fix on the Euro 5 1.6 TDI CR is approved yet,

they need to get on a complete the 2.0 TDI and then the 1.2 TDI, so why they are saying they will complete them by September 2017.

VW Group said they would keep you up to date, but they they say lots, usually about new electric vehicles or how sales numbers are holding up.

What was said here: The chief PR bugger for VAG Ireland said last week that the technical solution for the 1.6 diesels is  planned for some time during "upcoming" weeks.

Translation: "I havent an effing clue. Can i go back to encouraging mutually rewarding brand engagement now please?"

Result: Most of the polluted hot air entering the environment is not from VAG engines, its from PR bunnies mouths and bums.

Real solution: Hook these peoples mouths up to our exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) system. That will take care of burning off the NOx and there will still be extra hot air for the Turbo - and hence a tangible boost in performance. A solution to everything. Simples!

Well, let's just agree to disagree then. A very good friend of mine works as a VW Technician and he's done a 80+ cars so far from the VAG Group and not a single one has ever complained or claimed that their car responds or behaves different.

So yes, placebo much?

Sounds like your technician friend hasn't done The Fix on any Tiguans with the EA189 engine - there's ample evidence of quite a few owners of that model of vehicle being well hacked-off by the way the engine performs after The Fix has been implemented.  There's plenty of reports of noticeable loss of torque and the 'death rattle' between 1500 and 2500rpm.  It also appears that VAG has tried at least a couple of different variants of the software update to try to overcome the issues, but without success.

As for getting The Fix done on my 2011-plate 2.0TDi CR170 Superb, no thank you until it becomes mandatory...

Got a letter from Skoda today about the 1.6 Greenline. ..."Our intention is to release technical measures for all remaining Vehicles with an outstanding EA189 service action by the end of 2016. Implementation of these technical measures will however continue into 2017".

I have just had a call from my dealer asking if I would book car in for fix. I said I was concerned changes might negatively affect the cars running characteristics. Their response was they have adjusted approx 200 vehicles and they have had no complaints from owners so far. They seemed very keen to get it booked in.

It's up to you of course but my trusted Indy says "Don't do it!" He posts on the VW/Audi forum under the pseudonym "Crasher" if you want to look him up. He certainly knows what he's talking about!

Your choice,

Dave

The Skoda dealer will be getting paid for each car they do from higher up the Skoda/Vw chain no doubt so hence why they are keen for you to get it done

My car's in tomorrow for service/MOT and i've just spoke to them to state i don't want it doing, and the lady on the other end simply asked why, and said OK - no pushing whatsoever. Will obviously reiterate it to them tomorrow!!

Mine was done at its service, now it tends to regen at least twice on a tank, dont know if keeping it running does this, but several times I have done 150 mile runs , and its more or less done a regen after 1 short run straight after the long one , or even as I pull up, getting 58 to 64 on the long runs

I had my third letter in total (And first for a good few months) last week. When I first read it I actually thought they had sent me the wrong letter as it says that they are still working on the solution and that it may be early next year. I assumed it was aimed at the 1.6 owners but when I checked the details it had the correct 2.0 engine details.

My second letter received months ago was pretty much saying my car would be ready for the fix in the coming weeks..... Although I never received a letter to say go get it done etc..... And now this has gone back a step and said that they are still working on it.

Now.... The question is..... Is this VAG admitting that the CR140 is having issues after the fix?

Everything I've seen about cars having issues after the fix seem to always relate to the CR140 rather than the CR170.

By the way.... I've no intention of having the fix done unless I have to...... Car is maintained by a VAG specialist and not at a dealer and is out of warranty.

yes please, let us know!

Just checked and no sticker - dealer also said it has still to be done once they get the notification. I did say only if I give my express permission which they made a note of.

Reuters: Volkswagen gets approval for fix on another 2.6 million cars.

It's reported that the KBA in Germany have now approved the fix on the 1.6 CR TDI,  EA189 engines.

"Fixes for the 1.6-litre TDI engines of type EA 189 that were cleared on Friday also require a mesh to be installed near the air filter. KBA's approval is valid for countries throughout Europe."

Got mine back last Friday. Free umbrella and mug and diary and a fancy video message about tyres.

It is certainly NOT the car I took in. Mine 2011 Skoda 2.0l was amazingly response and had a sense of urgency that I thought was a pleasant surprise when I bought it 12 months ago. It outdrove any other 2.0l I had used (I am a frequent user of hire cars and owned a Vauxhall with a 2.0l engine for 10 years before this).

The lease company that owned it before me simply said the previous driver was 'involved in security'. They wouldn't expand.

Mine now drives how I would expect a 2.0l diesel of this size to drive.

It was nice whilst it lasted  :dull:

Take it to a trusted and knowledgeable independent and have the "fix" reversed!

If it was a remap before the New Software was put on it will need to be a Remap again quite likely, and that will be where some Remapper has checked out what the jackanory is with 'the fix'.

Another reminder letter received this morning, "We haven't seen you regarding the EA 189 NOx emissions service action required for your vehicle" it say's in big red letters. They are now offering me a visit from the VW group Roadside team at a location of my choice, home or work, to do the 60 min update. Apparently there have now been 265,000 vehicles updated.
