Just bought a fabia vrs, looking for a modding guide

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 1.4 tsi fabia vrs, I'm looking at firstly getting an induction kit, new intercooler, full stainless exhaust with high flow cat, set of better brake disc and pads and better fluid, new anti roll bars, wheel spacers and then a remap.

I want to get Coil overs eventually but not on my high priorities list.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on modding or anything that specifically needs upgrading.

Cheers Dan

First thing I would do is the brakes.

Go for 312mm and 256mm rears from a mk1 octavia vrs etc etc

Itg/vwr induction kit, don't buy a forge one they're poo

H&r rarb

Forge or airtec fmic

There's a decat cobra sport for sale on eBay I think for about £300

Not sure what thickness for the spacers.

And for the coilovers I've used ap and on rear of my mk2 are st (running airride)

There's loads of info on my thread.

Welcome to the forum & Twincharger ownership.

Pictures gone now from this build, but the car was running Stage 2+.

Look in the Projects for 'newbie69's build, and vRSpowereds among others.

mmmRacers  estate running stage 2 for hillclimbs and sprints is another to search out.

Great build here.

Welcome. What's the age and engine code of your VRS I.e CAVE or CTHE?

Don't think there are many people able to map the later car but the earlier CAVE one is ok, just avoid REVO. APR probably your best bet. Just be sure you have a good one before tinkering. These engines can be very fragile and lots are prone to excessive oil use. Remapping has been known to make issues far worse on problem cars so I'd wait awhile before going down that route.

First mod I'd recommend would be a set of springs and a RARB (the H+R one) as this combination absolutely transforms the stock sloppy handling to what it should have been from the factory, I.e more akin to a hot hatch.

I wouldn't bother with spacers. Know one member on here who had them and it really upset the handling on the car.

I find the standard brakes surprisingly fine (even on track) but plenty of people upgrade to larger disks.

Re inter cooler I can't see much benefit to changing this on a standard car (never noticed any heat soak) but maybe it would help if you ended up mapping it.

As for intakes agree as above avoid the forge as I recall some dyno results showing it actually loses power over stock.

Above all enjoy your car and let us know how it develops!

2011 CAVE.

So first thing to do is see if it has been Remapped already.

See what spark plugs are in now and do they need changing.

Dyno it and see what you are starting with.

See what settings are on the XDS, Brake assist, Steering assist.

Are the weights still on the rear crash bar, and what springs and dampers are on now.

are they 5 years old, been replaced or whats the story.  ie is the car standard now.

It is good to check the Service history and warranty history,

has it had Breather Pipe and Software update, New Oil Spray Jets and did thge DSG need or get the Service campaign done.  Then you know what you are modding.

The car is a CAVE not had any previous work done on it from what I can tell. I bought it from lookers with 34,000 miles with two previous owners, full service history and all previous mot certificates all fine apart from one which had an advisory about tread depth, but lookers replaced the tires before I bought it.

Yeah il definetly avoid the forge induction kit I've heard a lot of bad reviews about that one and I'm going to buy a new set of spark plugs , I've looked through the forum and everyone seems to be split between the denso iridiums and the ngk.

So just wondering which induction kit would you recommend and also which spark plugs.

Cheers to everyone who replied really appreciate the help, apologise for the late reply myself but I'm terrible say using this site.

Your OEM plugs are NGK, and REVO recommend different NGK's,  there lies the problem often.

You are as well to get the correct DENSO plugs and fit these. There are no issues or drawbacks, they do the job and do it well, this is something the NGK have been failing to do

for over 6 years in Twinchargers, standard or remapped.

Brake mods-

I've just done the mk4 r32 front brake set up.

However I've used new disks and pads and the caliper spring clips touch the inside of the spokes, arrgghhh!!!!!

I know there are those who've had no problems but be warned I'm going to have to run spacers (as small as I can possibly get away with), until the pads have worn down a bit and will clear the wheels safely.

It has proven to be a right pain for me and with hindsight I'd have left them alone! Or done the 312mm ones instead of 334mm ones.

Yeah i don't think I'm going to mess around with bigger brake kits or bigger callipers. I'm just going to get a decent set of disc and pads , decent brake fluid and maybe a set of breaded brake hoses.
