2013 but no different..

 

they wont be getting that off me, she was adding jobs up but in reality the cambelt is a biggy (£350?) but her price for the oil+filter(£175) ....you dont add jobs like that, its mental, hardly any extra work in hours

why oh why do they put a young lady on a service desk who clearly struggles to understand i dont want the service she has on her pc screen....

 

when i was in hgv parts and service customers told ME what they needed....

Plenty of equally ignorant men out there.

 

The dealership makes most of its money in the service department, so the people at the desk are told upsell as much as possible. One would just hope they're smart enough to realise when the punter isn't interested in what they're selling.

I quite agree but maybe ignorant is the wrong word (I didnt use it) i feel knowledge or experience (maybe training is the bit lacking) after all, fish and chips is a fish plus chips, if they are more as 2 items would i still buy?

 

anyway, new price from a garage who know what they are doing

well I rang 2, both were women on the service desk, my usual contact when i was in parts was a guy about 50, overalls, oily hands and hair, dirty workshop coffee mug, pirelli calendar on the wall but guess what...........he knew every inch of a Scania, Volvo or Sedakk truck and the triaxle curtainsider behind it....and every one of each on his fleet of 100. A service manager should at least know how to service...a list of individual prices doesnt cut it, i dont blame the lady, i blame the dealership

That's a very cheap price. To be honest I'd be struggling to match that myself. A CR cambelt kit is over £200 from Skoda.

The local independent VAG servicing place here in Auckland had one of those old school guys who knew nearly everything. He was amazingly helpful and always had an answer. He recently retired and the bloke replacing him is no-where near as good. So, I've gone elsewhere....

 

That first point of contact is really important to many of us.

It's true! I'm always surprised when "most of these people on service desks usually have a completely non technical background."

If id have taken a call of Eddie Stobart or TNT workshop when I was in parts and not know ANYTHING about what was being asked id have lasted as long as a fart in a cullender, when they interview for the jobs wouldnt they ask about product knowledge? I know women who can strip a Perkins down and put it back together with ease so if I was running a dealership id want some modicum of petroldheadidness if i wanted to sell the service, not all customers are 1 car families some are fleets, big accounts, youd never ring again if quoted £820 for a major+cambelt job

My most muckiest call as a sales rep (7.5tonner loaded to 7.49tonnes carrying HGV trailer parts)

 

Richard Gary Ford (RGF) Bickenhill, fitter...mick....

 

The most clinically clean workshop....joint 1st.....TNT Atherstone and Stobart (Burton on trent) though Christian salveson and Boots came close, Inde Coope+Bass were also tidy, most old school Marston, Thompsons and Evershed, Shobnall....

 

Sometimes i miss that job

Yes I completely agree that dealerships should have technically experienced staff at the front of house but the reality is - being a service advisor in the uk doesn't pay well enough to leave the tools.

Different story in Germany; where being a service representative is seen as a promotion from the workshop.
