Opened door warning light always on and the signal goes on. Fabia MK1 estate.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I own a 2001 Fabia MK1 estate 1.9 TDi. It's quite old but I simply love it. Recently I started having this issue with the warning light on the dashboard that the door is open is always on. I managed to figure out that this is caused by the rear passenger's door. If I open and close it multiple times the light goes off but after some time it lights up again and the beep sound is heard reminding me that the door is opened (though it's closed). I really hate when this happens.

Now, I have looked through many posts on the web about different VAG cars having similar problems so it's not that uncommon. As most solutions to this problem comes to taking the door apart and either replacing or fixing door latch mechanism (not sure how it is called) I figured:

1. I don't really want to take anything apart;

2. I use this car for work, driving alone and carrying boxes most of the time. I know it's useful to know if all doors are shut before driving if you're taking kids, dog with you etc. but as this car is used strictly for work I don't worry about that too much (though I always check if all doors are closed).

And here it all comes to my question:

Maybe some of you know how to (in a not too difficult way) disable this 'open door warning' on preferably all doors? Maybe there's a fuse that can be removed? A switch that can be turned off ? :)

I know this sounds stupid but maybe that is one way to solve this annoying problem.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi clarendon462.

Not sure if warning light and sound was only fitted in Eelegance, but maybe there's a chance yours been disconnected (if the car was purchased second hand). When I boughmine I noticed that the warning light doesn't light up and there's no warning sound if I leave drivers door open. I assume those are either disconnected or some switch is broken. I wouldn't mind if all doors where like this in this case :)
