F/L Mud flaps

Hi all,

I collect my new yeti next week and want to fit front and rear mud flaps. There appear to be 2 types of rear ones, some very small and a slightly longer version. A bit confused as I would like the longer ones but not sure of the codes for them.

Any advice on part numbers and any issues fitting if anyone has done it themselves? My local dealer wants £120 fitted which sounds expensive.

Many thanks all.

Very expensive! Buy them and fit them yourself. It is REALLY simple to do and should take you no more than half an hour! You don't even need to remove the front wheels to do the front!

On a side note. Our Yeti was in for it's forth MOT at our dealers yesterday ["passed with flying colours" was what the tech said! - Yippee!!!] I happened to bump into two senior executives from Skoda and had a  - l o n g -  and very illuminating chat. I took them to task about the fact (amongst other things) that Yeti's can be factory ordered with rear Mud Flaps (at £27 inc VAT on a factory order) but not front ones! WHY! Why is it necessary to have to order the front ones (£38) as a genuine "after mark", and then pay for fitting or fit them oneself! - One of the guys was the "After Market" exec of Skoda UK and he was most interested to hear this, though he initially doubted the fact until it was confirmed by the dealership. His words: "It makes no sense whatsoever!" and he says he will address the situation on return to head office.

As I say. A long and very informative chat ensued, and during the conversation, it transpired that one of them had actually driven the new [MY 18] Yeti out in Czechoslovakia just following the Kodiak launch and quote, "The new Yeti is a very different beast to the current one". He reckons that it is VERY close to the image that Google currently has and predicts that if you like the current one you will love the new one! "It's good in so many different ways and the MQB platform handles superbly!". They said we will see it in the showrooms in eighteen months, so about December / January 2017 / 18. After they had started talking about it, they got very animated between themselves  - they were obviously, seriously, impressed with the new Yeti.

Anyway. I thought I would share that with you......................Tony

That's great news on the Yeti II Tony.

When I ordered the new Yeti I got the front mudguards added as a no cost 'part of the deal'. When I confirmed the order I asked to clarify that the mudguards would be fitted for the quoted price and was told yes no problem he'd get them fitted by the factory before delivery? Having seem and photographed the car I can confirm that the mudguards are NOT fitted so the garage will no doubt be doing the job?

Yes Great news.

Sorry to Moggo, the OP, if this hijacks the post somewhat. It certainly was not my intention, but I wanted to share the enthusiasm that these two guys, who have actually seen and driven it, so readily displayed about the Yeti II, and that Front Mud Flaps may shortly be available on Factory Order.............Tony

Thanks for the replies, I figured it was expensive, I will buy them and fit myself.

I was also surprised that the car doesn't come with mats! Seems a bit mad, apparently the SE doesn't come with mats........does anyone actually not put mats in their car?!

Oh well.

It really is easy to fit them yourself. You don't need to remove any of the wheels if you have the right tool for the job (right angle driver and the appropriate torx bit).

I must be lucky as my dealer chucked in free mats without even being asked. Maybe you drove a hard bargain and they didn't want to lose any more on their margin!

I fitted them without removing wheels with the Torx bit that is included in the tool kit under the rear floor.

Did you by chance make a point about the lack of choice in 1.4TSI options - i.e. Just L&K, 4x4 and manual?

No! I was  so busy discussing so many other things that I missed that [amongst many others I suspect!] opportunity - bu@@er!

One thing I did particularly notice though. They are VERY aware of Briskoda and it's dedicated followers. I suspect that those who believe that Skoda keep an eye on comments & postings here are are correct! .....Tony

How did you get to the rear lowest bolt, tyre is in the way to use the Torx screwdriver included by the looks of it?

Pity they haven't taken much notice then!

Flaps being a case in point!

Are the outdoor version longer on the rear than the urban ones, some look very short in the pictures compared to others?

I think they are the same, but the rear of the outdoor is different to give a better angle of attack for off roading. I guess that is also the reason for the short mud flap length. As they are a rigid flap, make them too long and they would possibly catch on steep off road hills.

Hi all,

I've fitted the front mudflaps and have a problem with the rears.

Middle screw is too short and doesn't catch when trying to tighten, I'm sure I've read about this problem before.

Anyone have this problem and know where to get a slightly longer screw? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

Checked there, no good :(

I have a 14 plate Yeti that had mudflaps factory fitted and the screws are 5mm longer on the rear on that car than the new 66 plate Yeti. I guess they know you need longer screws just don't supply them with the mudflaps.

I will try my local dealer, they should hopefully be able to get hold of some.

I had this problem with the rears and nearly gave up, but I found with perseverance and much pushing and swearing the screw eventually reached the nut and I was able to tighten. Agreed, a longer screw (down boy! :p ) would be a welcome addition to the kit and make the job a lot easier.

Just an update, got the mudflaps fitted. Got the correct screws for the back from Skoda parts Ireland. The hardest part was the metal clips on the back, really hard to push on as they are barbed and dig in as you push them. Anyone else find this?

RapidPaul, I have 2 spare if you want them? Drop me a pm with your address and I will send them.

Cheers.
