Replacement tyres or New Car?

survey

Recommended Posts

Wife loves her 2.0 diesel SE 4x4 manual Yeti. Coming up to 6 years old and 44000 miles. Choice now is to replace tyres that are down to 2mm or perhaps p/ex for a new SEL diesel 4x4 or maybe even a 1.4 L&K. Petrol 1.4's are rare so can't really try one; our present car has been virtually fault free and has had the cambelt, haldex, discs sorted.

Just wondered if it's prudent to retyre her car and wait to see what run-out deals there may be next year?

The run out deals are likely to be early next year so maybe wait for those to come through I'm pretty sure you'll get a great deal. You'll have a new car and 3 years warranty to start with, tyres, good ones, might cost £400. Your going to make much more than that on a run out deal and probably still be able to get a decent PX as your car will have more or less bottomed out.

also if you have new tyres on the yeti when you part-ex you should be able to push for a good price as it is several hundred pounds the dealer don't have to pay before he can sell it on

but at 6 year old it would probably just go to auction unless the dealer has a buyer in mind which they sometimes do

Or sell it on in the trade seems to be quite usual.

Thanks for your sensible responses. Very much my thoughts. No local dealer seems to have the spec needed and to order one for manufacture would bring the delivery date too close to when possible run-out deals would commence!

New tyres it is then! This car has been excellent so far.

Value your car as if you were a hard nosed buyer of it and that way you won't be shocked by the insulting offer as a trade.

If you have the flexibility, put it up for private sale.

Fault free and you are thinking of changing it. Why?

Changing a car always costs money, hassle and time. If it's running stick with it. It's not like tyres are massively expensive.

Besides you might end up with a car like mine (bought from new):

Yup, I guess that sums it up! That's our decision; leaves options open for next year!
