Fabia vrs feels rapid!

Hi just thought I'd post my experience on here.

I currently have a hybrid vrs running 230bhp 340lb ft.

I have just bought a mk1 Audi TT 225. On test drive it felt absolutely flat. It was boosting but I did expect a little more. I'm even considering a rolling road to see what power it's making.

Has anybody else had a similar experience jumping out of a tuned Fabia into something else and feeling somewhat underwhelmed???

It's the old diesel versus petrol thing.... Torque. I don't know what the specs are on the TT, but I bet it's nowhere near 340 lbft. I'm imagining the powerband on your fabia will be a lot wider than on a turbo'd petrol, so you'll be needing to rev is a lot more than you're used to.

Did you only test drive the one? It could be knackered :)

 

Should be keeping it above 4k RPM I believe on the K04 to make the most of the power band.

 

All about that diesel torque 'surge'.
Not had chance in a petrol equivalent (type R, Clio Sport etc) of mine yet. But I imagine I'll be thinking exactly what you described.

Not really the equivalent as they are N/A. Ibiza FR/Cupra/Polo GTi 1.8T petrols are directly equivalent :)

It boosts and pulls but I looked at the stats and the TT weight in at approx 1.5t so it's no light weight. And yes I appreciate the above 4 thing. I have driven and owned lots of quick cars over the years inc sti type r Impreza. Focus st 225 stage 2. Etc and I'm really impressed with the Fabia. I know it probably feels faster than it is but the speedo doesn't lie...

As above, all about the power delivery and torque.

I drove Pete's old black Octy vRS with LSD, upgraded turbo etc and I thought my Hybrid Fabia vRS felt much quicker, despite running around 30 bhp less. Don't think my Fabia was quicker though ;)

Jason and Phil may be the ones to ask regards comparing Petrol to Diesel in a Fabia. Phil's petrol Fabia runs around 230 and Jason's diesel around 300 and they did back to back passenger runs in each others cars as well as chasing each other around Bedford. Phil kept up iirc. Both their cars are fairly track focused, Phil's is on the standard turbo, block and head. Jason isn't...

 

Not sure how Jason and Phil compare in the testicles size. I know Phil was considerably quicker than me around Croft (like 8-10seconds a lap with comparable petrol power but more focus'd car), so that makes a big difference :)

 

Throw the money that you have at the Hybrid setup in the Fabia and what would you be getting out of the TT? Hell just put a remap on it to start with :)

Mate of mine had a TT albeit a 180bhp and standard Fabias left it for dead. I drove another mates 225 and thought that was pretty **** too. Our re-mapped Fabia much quicker where it counts.

 

Have heard a few people moaning about their TT's so must be par for the course. They're pants!

TT's were never a good car, a triumph of style over substance, at this age I would imagine that they're absolutely awful, a poor Golf 4 platform car even when new.

Must have something wrong as a standard Fabia isn't much. I did a standard Fabia off the lights in my old 8v mk2 golf with ease.

Not always true it depends on the set up and turbo.

For example my Fabia the power comes in just below 2k then drops off at just over 3-3.5k.

The pulsar comes in at around 3-3.5k and will hold up to redline. Much wider power band.

A simple remap will transform that car. I had a mate who brought a remapped Cupra R which was running 265 and he was considerably quicker than mine albeit just a remapped Fabia.
