Mk1 Estate - Rear window winders

Recommended Posts

As I understand it the Mk1 Ambience and Elegance have manual rear window winders, but the L&K has electric rear windows.

I have an L&K but would prefer manual rear windows ( I expect to have to sleep overnight in the car from time to time) and a manual regulator means you can adjust ventilation without the key being in the ignition. The OSR window mechanism has just failed- cable gone.

Question - if anyone knows the answer:

1) is the steelwork of the OSR door identical across all variants?

2) Is the internal door handle identical in shape and location (if not finish) across all variants?

i.e. rather than renew the electric regulator is it possible to replace it with a manual winder and door card for that type of winder?

Elegance has all four electric windows. I know this as I own one. The doors are all the same but depends on whether you have a hatch or estate as the two body style rear doors are different. As far as I'm aware the Ambiente was the model with wind up rear windows. You will need new regulators, door cards, window winder handles and switch panel blank if you want to be picky? If you find a donor car it's easier to swap all the parts over.
