Rapid USB

I am picking up my 2014 Rapid 1.2 tsi on Monday, part ex for my Fabia 1,2 tsi, i noticed it has a usb port, salesman said it will work with my ipod classic, but on doing some research it seems it wont, unless i buy a Seat lead at £60+ and even this is a bit vauge. I am reluctant to pay so much for a lead with no guarantee it will work, as am alternative can i use a USB stick with my music on, if so what type of USB stick is best and what is the max gb size it will take. Thanks for any help and advice.

PM chrisgreen on here, he's the long standing expert on the Rapid MDI and ipods/iphones. He found cheap leads that work too.

Personally I gave up and stuck a 32GB SD card into the amundsen slot instead.

Not sure what the max capacity is, but I bought a tiny 32GB USB drive, (mostly) filled it with music and plugged it in. Works a treat and doesn't take too long to start up. I remember a mate of mine attaching a 320GB USB hard drive to his MDI in his Octavia and that worked too, assuming it's similar technology in the Rapid (the radio shows MDI as the input device).

 

I'm more than happy with the USB drive, it's small, no phone/ipod knocking around in the centre console and no cables stretching across the dash to a mount...

128 Gb of music / podcasts and Audiobooks available in my Rapid SB. 64 Gb SDHC card in the stereo and a 64 Gb mini USB stick in the USB slot. Both load instantly and the switch between MDI & SD card is readily accessible.

 

As per Raglits earlier post, I've found the mini USB sticks work well and are barely noticeable when in place. I went for a Sandisk like this:

I have a 64gb one of these which works fine.. however just use the SD card option so can use Android Auto too, plus charge phone etc..

I converted all of my iTunes music into AAC files and loaded them onto a tiny 32GB Samsung USB stick from Amazon.  Works a treat and more importantly the little Samsung drive runs very cool both in the car and in my PC.  I have used Sandisk ones before but they tend to run very hot for some reason.  The small Samsung drive also tucks away almost completely out of view in the MDI slot.

Going off at a slight tangent would it be worth me copying the contents of my SD Sat Nav card  to another in case the original fails ? Would the copy work?The Sat Nav works from the SD card inserted in the CD player located in the glovebox of my Toledo.

the Amundsen in pre my16 cars used a coded sd that could not be used more tban once (if it's copyable skoda uk will omly sell one!)
