Phone and Bluetooth again....

Recommended Posts

I know this has probably been answered numerous times already but here goes anyway.

Columbus on my 09 superb has nav, hdd, sd card everything except Bluetooth. It has a phone button but it only mutes the radio/cd etc. There is no Bluetooth module under the seat.

Can I purchase one, fit it, fit mike, program the Columbus to accept the module. Is it a handy enough job or is it not worth the effort.

The bluetooth usually is integrated to the In-dash stereo radio with gps system etc. so I think if you want to add the bluetooth module, you may need to upgrade the entire In-dash stereo radio with gps system.  There are a lot of such aftermarket electronics product online such as the seicane S30901.

Not true for the OEM headunits in a MK2 Superb or many other VAG cars of a similar generation.

The BT module is a separate part that tends to sit under one of the front seats, it's trivial to retrofit and code as aftermarket wiring looms exist as long as it's the correct module for the options fitted to the car.

The only exception is where a Amundsen+ (RNS-315) is fitted, some of these come with BT built in but disabled. It can be enabled with the addition of a microphone :)

If your car has a maxidot cluster, a 3C8035730D or 3C8035730E is the best bet as they are the most fully featured modules around.

If your car doesn't have a maxidot cluster, then 7P6035730J is a good bet.

Maxidot clusters will show you an outline of the car with the doors opening/closing as you get it.

Something to be aware of, there are numerous different versions of the Bolero so depending what you have fitted you may have issues.

- Older Blaupunkt Boleros seem to show corrupt phonebook entries onscreen

- Newer Delphi Boleros should have working phonebooks

- I'm not sure if all headunits will show track info and allow skip forwards/backwards when using BT audio

I'm not sure if any BT modules will solve the corrupt phonebook issue with older Blaupunkt units. Hopefully on a 2012 car you'll have a Delphi unit :)

It definitely has the white maxidot display .. not sure how to check the type of Bolero unit installed. I will be using it with an iPhone if that makes any difference to a 3C8035730D or 3C8035730E unit

Both of those modules should fully support an iPhone. Other older/less fully featured modules should also support iPhones but I haven't got a list unfortunately.

I think you can press and hold the 'setup' button to find the part number as per this video. Not sure if it's something that needs activating first.

What difference apart from wifi hotspot and rsap ( which I believe the iPhone does not support) does the premium 3C8035730D and 3C8035730E give you over the 7P6035730J unit.

That should be a Delphi unit which is good news.

Correct, the iPhone doesn't support rSAP or WiFi. I'm not sure if there will be any functional difference between the 3C8 and 7P6 unit when maxidot is fitted.

I've not got any direct experience with the 7P6 units so hopefully someone who has one fitted with maxidot can add some input.

With an iPhone there is little difference in functionality. The only thing I can think of is the premium modules also allow a separate media player to be connected. With the the 7p6 module it has to be media player of the connected phone.

Hi adamal. With the 7p6 module will it display on the Bolero or do I need the 3c8.

If I was playing music it would be through the iPhone anyway or from sd card.

Yes it would. The reason a separate media player is useful is you can connect your own phone for calls but allow your family member or friend's phone to be the music source. My son likes to play his music when on a longer journey for example (not always an advantage!!)

Sounds like a good idea can't have the wife playing take that on longer journeys ..is there a particular version I should be looking for on the 7p6 and do you need anything other than the harness , microphone and microphone cable

Get a J or above suffix unit if you can. You could also get a foam cover for the module but only relevant if you intend locating under the seat.   Some velcro the unit behind the climate panel in which case its not needed.

Good luck. eBay and www.carsystems.pl are good sources. It will potentially need some coding when you fit it although it may be coded from a previous installation in a way that works for your car. Check the vcds owners map for someone near you if required.

Managed to get a 7P6 035 730 M module from eBay, now just waiting for the harness and mic coming and to see if it works.

Is it best mounting under the drivers or passenger seat

Doesn't matter but probably easier to tidily route the cabling down the passenger side with the glove box out.

Thanks .. on the wiring loom there are 3 white connectors. On the yeti with a Bolero does the white mic connector go to the cable that leads back to the Bluetooth unit or to the wiring harness plug that plugs into the bolero unit

It'll be from the microphone directly to the BT unit.

It only goes via the headunit if it supports voice control, namely if it's the Columbus :)

Thanks .. I'll just tape the 2 connectors that come from the plug that goes to the bolero with insulating tape

to adamal and Langers2k thanks for all your advice and assistance

I successfully managed to install the kit at lunchtime and it's all working 100% as far as I can see it even works in the mfd.

I think that the car possibly had Bluetooth installed previously and it had been removed.

There should be a thanks button for you to thank anyone that helps
