Octavia Vrs won't start. Any advice please?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001/2 Oct vrs, a couple of years ago I was driving and the car cut out with flashing dash lights, luckily the car stopped just outside my drive and so I pushed the car onto the drive where it has sat ever since. After charging the battery the car would crank but not start but now won't turnover and just makes a loud clicking noise from behind the fuse box and the central locking goes crazy. Any ideas on how I can fix This?

Have you got VCDS?

That may help for fault diagnosis initially.

Also, what voltage is your battery at? I see you charged it, some of the cells may have gone over the years.

It should show around 12.3v (ish) after two hours of just sitting there in the car.

The clicking sound would be a relay, which are usually quite robust - but they click when not getting enough power.

Second thing I'd check is earth's.

As the car cut out originally with flashing dash lights, I would check the condition of the posts on the battery fuse box, as it may have melted causing some of your issues.

Charge rate check and battery voltage checks are wise once you get it to run.
