Wanting to get my cr140 superb remapped?!

Looking to get my 2014 cr140 supurb mapped and im in two minds about whether to leave dpf as is, or have it "deleted" I know from being on the octavia 2 forum its a bit of a sore subject about legality of removing dpf etc, but wanting opinions before i go ahead and book in, I have been quoted £190 for remap and dyno (to prove figures) and an extra £100 if i choose to have dpf removed

Or think about a chip - same price, almost as good as a remap - but you can always remove it and install in your next car ...

And in most cases - you can choose "program" - more power or more mpg or something in between - DTUK.

A remap is ALWAYS the best solution, not all these generic diesel tuning boxes.

+1 on this. Tuning boxes do their work by messing with sensor values and fooling the ECU into operating in a different part of the stock map, likely in ways it's not designed to work.

I had a DPF removed on my Octavia VRS..... it was noisy smelly smoky and I was always panicking that the MOT would pick it up. Diesels are all going out the window not the DPF has arrived as far as I am concerned. DPF's have a very limited lifetime, less so if the car is remapped or has any fault that could cause more soot/smoke. Replacement DPF's are not a controlled product, so flaky. I am not looking for an older Diesel with no DPF, or a petrol.

 

My advice, dont remap the car and dont remove the DPF. IF you get the car remapped, get it done properly. Leave the DPF in place. If the map hasnt been done properly though, you wont know until the dreaded light comes up.

 

Otherwise, if you want a more powerful diesel, buy a more powerful diesel.

 

I used to be all for increasing performance on Diesels, but the DPF has killed it. Many people will say oh I have had mine done etc, but wait till the bill start.

The price is good yes but i know for sure it will be done correctly as he is a well respected mapper round my way, runs out of a garage thats been established 20 years. I would happily let him map any car of mine. 

 

Thing i'm thinking is, i'm likely to own this car for around 3 years, so will the mot laws become that much stricter in this timeframe? This is my only niggle in regards to gutting and mapping out the dpf.

I have already decided to retain the dpf but still have it tuned, ive been quoted around 40bhp increase Im having the map and dyno done on wednesday coming.

Be wary, despite what the tuners say almost all performance increasing maps increase soot. This then puts extra stress on the DPF, it has to work harder and will fill with ash sooner.

 

What mileage is your Superb on, how old is it, your profile mentions a 2008 Octavia?

 

It isn't just the DPF that works harder, think clutch, DMF, turbo and EGR valve too, all expensive fixes.

 

Is the quote for DPF removal to gut the current DPF or remove it completely with a straight-through pipe? The later being cheaper but almost impossible to hide from an MOT tester.

 

Remember aftermarket DPF's are now becoming readily available. Quality they might not be, but for fitting to a car to be sold on or part exchanged it could be an option.

I am a qualified mechanic so as you say they are expensive fixes, but i will be saving a lot in regards to labour cost as any work that is carried out on my car is done by me, the car is on 47k 2014 car in my profile is my previous car which was a 2.0 pd which was mapped with a blacksmoke map, and never caused any isses, just because the power is there, I am not the type to drive with my foot to the floor all the time, i only use the extra power when overtaking on motorway, or occasionally catching a traffic light, 

 

The cost quoted will be to gut the current dpf, although if i was going to do it id probably prefer to keep the original dpf and put a stainless steel dummy in its place.

Just back from Tuner, 183bhp, from 141bhp standard and torque up to 420nm from 320nm, very happy overall, was told without dpf it would see upwards of 195bhp, but as previously stated i kept dpf intact. Car is insured as modified with all mods declared so no laws broken or bent with this car.

Sounds like a good result  :sun: if you don'd mind could you show the power graph as I would be interested to see what the std and re mapped plots look like. I have had a car re mapped in the past and was pleased with the result and am now looking at having the superb done. Thanks.

Hi there yeah i wasn't expecting a figure that high tbh, I know it will inevitably increase soot and shorten life of dpf but i will deal with that issue when it comes around,

Thanks for that, very useful. The extra power should give a nice improvement to in gear response as well as 0-60.  :sun:
