Decision made and order placed....

Recommended Posts

After much debating between a manual L&K versus a Style with DSG I've finally made up my mind and placed the order today!  In the end I went with the DSG box in the Style spec.  Thanks to the helpful opinions from members on here also which helped me make up my mind!  I couldn't see the value in the MKIII L&K (an extra €4K!) and there were items in that spec that I didn't even need/want e.g. virtual pedal, KESSY, heated rear seats.  I'll get over not having Canton TBH as I'm not an audiophile and besides, the MKII system wasn't a full Canton system anyway - not like what's available on the MKIII.  DSG is also €3K over here so it focuses the mind a bit in terms of overall spend.  Final spec is:

150 TDI DSG

Style spec  (SE L equivalent),

Lava Blue Metallic,

Beige full leather interior (beige is finally available to order again)

with a few extras thrown in:

18" Pegasus wheels (as only 17" are standard in Ireland),

Ventilated seats,

Paddle shift,

Sunset glass,

Electrically operated hatch,

Colour maxi-dot,

Waste bin (I wasn't paying for this!!)

I think it was the right decision in the end plus the extras are the bits I actually wanted from the L&K :).  From the few times I've tried it, the DSG box does transform the car and really puts it up there with a 5 series / A6 in terms of driver refinement and the manual option is still great when needed.  I've been told the car will be ready in the dealership at the very beginning of January (so 11/12 weeks from now) - we will see how the updates go over the next few weeks with build dates etc.  Now for the wait........!

Good choice, I have the SEL EXEC 2.0TDI 150 DSG, love it, with the 18" Pegasus wheels, you will love the DSG with the ACC, enjoy.

Thanks.  ACC is actually an option here.  I had to draw the line somewhere with options!.  Normal cruise is fine for me as most of my driving is on roads where ACC wouldn't be suitable. Would be nice to have all the same.

Thats a shame, this is the first car I have had with ACC, it make congested motorways so much more pleasant, and its a look into the future, fully automated cars, scary.

Yes agree ACC is one of those options that if you haven't had before not an issue but once you have driven a car with ACC wouldn't be without it. Surprised not standard for you in Ireland, One of the factors that drew me to the Superb rather than Audi that charge a small fortune for something standard on many Skoda and VW cars.

I hope they are able to stick to the delivery time you have quoted but I doubt it. I ordered a superb sel exec estate 190 dsg on 14th August - over 2 months ago and current unconfirmed build date is week 2, 2017 - 21 weeks from order date. But I have ordered with panoramic roof which some, inclduding the dealer, say may be causing such a long build time.

Yeah, it's always a concern and I'm equally sceptical. I was quite emphatic about it and they did they mention some options that cause longer delays, one of them is the pano roof actually so what you were told seems consistent anyway. That's a long wait you have though! I hope the lead time improves for you.

Nice one, sounds like it'll be a real head turner once you get it on the road.

Thanks!  I think its the only colour that looks decent now as the choice is fairly limited these days and I heard that lava blue may even be discontinued soon.  Any plans for a change yourself?

Doesn't really leave much in the way of nice colours. The PCP is up on my Octavia in March, so I'd say I'll be either going to Laharts or up to Ryan Power in the next month or so and see how my wallet is fixed.

Very good, will you try George Corbett's or have you dealt with the others before?

Haven't dealt with the others before, but I'd go to a place that appreciates my business unlike Corbett's recently.

I haven't heard anything particularly negative about them, have you had a bad experience with them?  There is plenty of competition around the region now which can only be a good thing.

I had an email from my dealer today - the expected build date has been brought forward from week 2/2017 to 4 weeks from now but he said this is still an unconfirmed build date but he doesn't expect it to change. This would mean about a mid-december delivery which would be 4 months from order, not the close to six months I was told by SUK a few weeks ago. This revised build date ties in with something else I was told - that they intend to build all cars within 14 weeks of order.

Congrats, Im in Donegal, looking at a similar spec myself.

Thanks!  seen lava blue with the pegasus wheels and really loved how it looked on the road.  I haven't actually come across one with beige interior but I think the colour combo should work very well and hopefully give it a touch of class.  Are you looking at a 150 as well?  Would you be tempted to go over the border, as you're so close and given the current exchange rate?

EDIT:  Sorry, just read your post in another thread - I see its a company car

I have also ordered my Superb Combi 150ps manual shift :)

The Style spec with extra, Canton audio, DCC, Sun-set, frist window heated, rear camera and park assist 3.0 :) Color will be business grey :). I also ordered few extra stuff thru superskoda, like tablet holder, metal pedals, and metal footrest,  rubber middle cover on floor at back seats.

I hope I will get it soon, my dealer said it can be here around Christmas :) maybe we will have a very happy new year

Looks like we're both gonna be driving some nice new cars in January. Placed my order today with Corbett's after some discussion on trade in value for the RS.

Nice one!  Were you happy enough in the end with the price?  Like any new dealer, I think it could them a while to get used to pricing cars they are not familiar with.  I got a wide spectrum of pricing from them.  In the end their price was fine but took a bit of work to get there.  Didn't go with them in the end but only because a different type of deal came up for me through work and I had to go with a another dealer, otherwise I would have dealt with them.

Very happy to be honest "Dave with the stache" I have to say went way beyond my expectations on a trade in value giving me €15k as a trade in valuation and knocked down the price on the RS meaning I didn't have to put a bob of my own money down and pretty much matched what I'm currently paying per month on my 1.6 Octavia.

I probably could have went to Powers or Laharts but to be honest I doubt I've would've gotten a better deal.

That sounds great, well done!  The Octavia is probably holding its value better than any other car out there at the moment.  Its nearly impossible to get a used diesel anywhere.   Will you have it for early January?

I'm hoping so, the order is going in this morning, so just have to wait and see how well updates are handled or if it's possible to track my order.

  • 1 month later...

I mentioned on another thread that the LED ambient lighting was missing as the factory spec has changed during the build.  I wasn't impressed and the dealer has offered some extra services in lieu of this.
