VCDS - Autoscan_issues

Recommended Posts

i've noticed that recent autoscan reports done on my 03 Fab saloon haven't reported on certain modules, even though the modules appeared to have been selected for autoscan in VCDS and are installed in this particular model - 1.4 16v 100 HP BBZ engine, manual 5 speed, 6Y chassis.

For example. An autoscan done on 10/10/2016 reported selecting the following modules for autoscanning:-

01, 02, 03, 08, 09, 15, 19, 25, 37, 44, 46, 55, 56,76.

And it actually reported on 01, 03, 09, 15,17, 19, and 44.

It failed to report on 02,  08, 25, 37, 46, 55, 56, 76.

Now I can understand why it didn't report on some modules because they aren't insttalled on this vehicle:-

02 - auto transmission

37 - Navigation

55 - xenon range

56 - radio ( I have aftermarket radio installed)

76 -park assist

However, it failed to report on items which are installed and which prior scans (2013) did report on:-

08 - HVAC

25 - immobiliser

46 - central convenience

Any idea on the reason for this ?

Is it possible to do a manual scan for these modules ?

VCDS version 16.8.2

Data version 20160926 DS261.0

Cheers

Downloaded the latest version, 16.8.3 and autoscanned and the same happened.

It only detected controller modules 1,3, 9,15,17,19, 44 and 46

It failed to report on 2,8, 25, 37,55, 56 and 76.

It should have reported on 8 and 25.

So, I tried doing it manually through the select control module option and got the following:-

08 - No response from controller

25- Partial response from controller -  but access to advanced measuring values was  denied (Greyed out).

And this was the autoscan.

There's only one fault code - highlighted red and only a couple of components appear not to be working, the cabin fresh/recirculated air flap and the temperature flap. Heater blower is working but only deliver cold air.

And the battery is being depleted by an on going drain of about .45 amp when the car's at rest, engine off, ignition off and all door and windows closed.

Well, your experience is much as I felt.

The problem is not with VCDS but with my car's electrical system.

At the moment the temperature control flap motor (V168) in the cabin heating system doesn't seem to be working because, no matter where I position the temperature knob on the centre dashboard console, all I'm getting is cold air.

Also, my car has got a constant current drain on the battery, when the engine + ignition is off an all the doors and windows are closed and locked, of 0.5 amp.

My working assumption is that both of these are linked.

To date, in my mind, possible candidates for these failures were either the temperature flap motor or the Air Conditioning control board behind the heater switches on the  lower part of the cabin dashboard centre console.

However, interpretation of the Engine (Module 01) fault code reported above, using Ross-Tech's database, states that fault 18043 -P1635 relates to the can data bus, AC - no signal AC control module, trouble code(s) stored, wiring, matching ECM.

This introduces both the wiring and, unhappily, the ECU, as possible candidates/co-candidates responsible for the faults.

As, I understand that, a new  replacement AC control module  from Skoda is  conveniently priced at £198 (For a 12cm x 3cm single layer electronics board that probably costs less than a fiver to manufacture, distribute and market) and a new ECU is £600 +, and fixing any of the components, other than the ECU, involves a mini tear-down of various parts of the cabin dashboard, I am  wondering if any other features of VCDS can be used to narrow down the cause of these faults/determine whether they are caused by the same thing, or whether its now down to brute force and multimeters.

Cheers

Nick

When I bought my VW Passat back in 2000, some time later I discovered a suitable NOS Climatronic control panel for sale on ebay, I think that I only paid about £15 for it, when I bought my wife a VW Polo in 2002, some time later I discovered a suitable NOS Climatronic, (or maybe the Polo auto AC was called Climatic) control panel on ebay, I think that I only paid about £15 for that one as well!  I seem to remember trial fitting them and recoding them to suit - but over 13 years of owning both these cars I never needed to use them!

You can make life turn out like that, strange!
