Light steering a spongy brake pedal

Ok so after a few weeks of driving the fab VRS, when I can prize it off the good lady (it's her car tbf).

I've noticed the steering is a LOT lighter and number than the VRS octy as are the brakes. I've read some where on here that there is a setting in vcds that changes the steering feel etc. Is the steering actually quite light in normal setting on these and is there a setting that can be adjusted to tighten it up a bit. Brake fluid was changed by a main dealer at last service 2k ago.

"Brake fluid was changed by a main dealer" does not mean that the system was bled properly afterwards. (I'm presuming that you actually mean that the pedal is spongy as per title, and not just that it's over-servoed)

Firstly report what tyres are on the front, and also what pressures you are running at. (Yes steering assistance rate is adjustable if required)

 

More info on 'Spongy' required pleased - do you mean that once fully applied the pedal is able to compress even further. OR, is the amount of free pedal travel such that you have to apply a long movement to actuate brake retardation.

 

Remember that you cannot compress a fluid, so with the brakes properly working (IE all pistons free etc) you should have a full brake.

If you truly have spongy brakes, this is normally because of aeration - and a proper bleed may be required.

Always follow up any brake queries/ reservations with your dealer/supplier without delay.

Yea I reckon it is over servoed they do work but there is quite a bit of free play before they come on hard. Maybe just spoilt by the amazing brakes on the VRS Octavia

Tyres on from are conti sport contact 2. Not a fan and they are terrible. More a long movement on the pedal because they do work well when pushed and can feel some brake force when pedal is touched lightly. I'm thinking it's because they are over servoed. I will Pop into the dealer where it was serviced before I brought it... pressures are as recommended on fuel filler cap. 2.4 and 2.5 bar.

There is Steering Assist that can be adjusted, and there are 2 different ones come up depending on the year of build 2012-2014

So there is a Disability Setting / GTI or what ever.

I used to have less assist with 205/40 17 tyres and Winter 215/40 17, and Factory setting on summer tyres.

 

So check that, then tyre brand and pressures make a big difference on vRS / Monte's on 17" Tyres.

 

Basically now i run 33 psi front and back but that is with an empty hatch back with All Weather 205/ 40 R 17 Tyres on.

Other circumstances and you just adjust to suit them.

There is also Brake Assist which can be adjusted, and XDS Setting,

So if some Technician has been into the systems, even doing a Software Update, 

or the DSG Sevice Campaign that should not adjust the Steering, Brakes , XDS etc, then have the setting checked.

Lots of owners go in making adjustments than a car gets traded in and not Reset to Factory Settings.

(Skoda Approved Used cars can be sold without the Dealership looking at what Steering or Brake assist is set at.)

There are even cars out there Remapped & the new owner might have no idea.

World class mate thank you. Mine is a 2013 CTHE VRS estate. Looking at some of the links I'll pop Mike Holroyd a message and get him to plug it in for us and we'll have a look at xds brake assist and steering assist. He sorted me out with my sat nav install.

Just checked tyre pressures and on the 205/40-17 they are at 2.3 bar.

Right all sorted with the light steering. Changed the setting from what was light setting number 4 to gti/Rs much more weight to it. Changed the brakes setting too but can't decide. Settings are

Off

Early

Normal

Late.

So we presumed this meant when it assists you so changed that to late.

Thanks to mike Holroyd for vcds. Top bloke and nothing is to much trouble for him.
