Hi there guys

Just need a little help I don't know much about cars and tight on the money at a moment just wondering if anyone knows how much roughly it will cost me to to replace Skoda 1.4mpi mk1 timechain, head gasket and altinator belt and is it worth to get a new water pump while I'm at it the car has only done 86000 miles and the cost of the parts and fit price will help thank you everyone.

You know that you need a new head gasket?

I'd agree that if the head needs to come off then replacing the timing chain and tensioner makes sense since the chain is disturbed to lift the head.

Auxiliary drive belt is maybe, depending on wear, and water pump again depends. If the water pump is driven off the timing chain then yes it makes sense to change it, but if it's driven off the aux I'd leave it because it's a much easier thing to change.

You don't say what part of Suffolk , but if on the western fringes, you might look at Unit 18( sponsors on here), or even ask them for opinions and price. Just a thought if car is drivable for 60 or so miles .

The chain isn't disturbed to remove a 1.4 mpi head. They are not OHC engines.

Therefore the water pump can be replaced at any time since you don't need to remove it to replace the auxiliary belt, likewise the timing chain is a completely separate job although easier to access while the head's off.

I assume the head gasket has gone since it's a 1.4 MPI, I also assume the timing chain is noisy since it's a 1.4 MPI. If money's tight then just do the head gasket and the auxiliary belt if it actually needs one.

Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it and I will most probably have it checked out by a garage and bring up the subject of the water pump, timechain and most deffinetly the head gasket and also I have the yellow junk under my oil cap which isn't good I guess and there's some black slush in the engine too. Once again thank you guys.

Does it look like mayonnaise? If so, it could just be that the engine doesn't get totally up to temperature normally. Subject to everything else being ok, a 1 hour drive at  out of town speeds may clear that.

Yes it does a shade cream/yellow to it and also the seems like it's running a bit rich you can smell the petrol straight away and seems to be oil pact on the right side of the cylinder head and the under side of the engine but the car has been running superb ever since I had it.

If you're smelling petrol after more than about 5 minutes, there may be something wrong with the automatic enrichment and/or bad readings coming from the EMS channel on the coolant temperature sensor (this can be checked with VCDS).

The mayo is often a result of the cylinder head being not fully up to temperature so that water condenses inside it and mixes with the oil. As my last, a decent run at highways speeds will clean it up if that's the case.

thank you I will pop into my local garage to get it checked since the mayo junk isn't the first time I keep on cleaning it and do a long trips and it seems to come back and see what he say but hopefully won't cost me too much.
