Hi all, just put a deposit on a 55 plate 1.9tdi 130 Superb Elegance with 70k and full Skoda service history, really excited to pick it up, may have paid a bit over the odds but the history swung it for me, in all the MOT's it had only had one fail for a CV boot and NO advisories!!

I have had a few PD's, Bora 130/150, Passat 130 saloon, currently still have an 02 Passat 130 sport estate with 235k on it which goes like clockwork, also do my own remaps so it's running circa 175bhp and goes like a train, will be the first mod I do to the Superb ;-)

I know about the water ingress which I will check as Passats suffer the same, is there any other things specific to Skoda's that I need to know about?

It's fully loaded with electric leather front and rear heated, sat nav, wood, cruise, is there any other extra that Skoda get over VW as you seem to get a lot more for your money?

I specifically wanted the 1.9pd as I didn't fancy the oil pump drive issues on the later ones although for the price I could have gone newer, hoping with 70k on I can get 100k more out of it, I've done 35k trouble free miles in the Passat so it's a no brainer,

I had a guy around for remap a few months ago that I know and sat in his Elegance and was blown away by the quality of it vs VW, it stuck in my mind and I got in a taxi the other day and realised what I was in, 205k it had on it and it felt like 60k, it peaked my interest again so that night went searching and bought one lol, impulse is a great thing but this car is beautiful, I'll try and get pic's.

Sorry for the long post, look forward to chatting with you, I'm a regular on UKPassats.

Good purchase if manual transmission. As you clearly know, if you can work around the VAG design sillies, these cars can do starship miles. A few points - assuming you know all about water ingress:

Free front suspension pinchbolts - if it's not too late. (include the trackrod end pinchbolts, but don't move the ball pin height).

Remove the circlips under the wiper arms, drop the shafts and oil the bushes.

Derust (Dinitrol) around the number plate lamps. (Galvanised my **se)...

Derust front wing edges at wheel (I fit a rubber channel strip with Dinitrol underneath) and check there are no foam blocks in the wheelarches.

Derust rear wing at the bottom, just in front of the rear wheels.

Check alternator freewheel pulley and fit a new (OE) thermostat. The coolant sender may well be duff.

When you change the timing belt, don't overtorque the nut on the tensioner stud. In my view, the stipulated torque overstresses the stud - which is really bad news.

Use only Mann or Bosch filters, and fit the "O" rings the right way round (blue to hoses) when you change the fuel filter.

Good motoring,  rotodiesel.

Hi

Yes it's manual, timing belt done 10k ago, most of those things are the same with the Passat so good info, didn't know about the rear number plate lights and the rear wings, I know about the foam crap in the fronts though.

I have a spare genuine temp sender I kept for emergencies, also have most of the service kit, spare cambelt kit and crank sensor that should all fit.

I only use OE equipment and Quantum longlife every year as I service myself, will definitely be doing the water ingress issue if it hasn't already been done by the dealer, also need a slight lowering session with Eibachs and I have new AP shocks that were going on the Passat which I assume are the same on the Superb?

Remap will be done after a few days of VCDS scanning and seeing how it goes.

Just a quick question, what is it worth? Not bothered but just your thoughts, I paid what I thought was fair with the fact it was a dealer demo car then sold to an older guy who did 6k a year and had it serviced at the same dealer and also P/X'd it back to them, still has dealer plates on, back never sat in and the front looks new also, couple of minor scrapes on the alloys and 2 marks on the body (touch in paint jobs), it really is clean though.

I've got 190K on mine and the motor and original turbo are still going strong, though I had to treat it to a recon autobox at 98K.

Garage I take mine to for "wheels off the ground" jobs look after one with over 300k on the clock.  So you should be set for a while.  I think the tinworm will get it before the motor goes (if it has been looked after so far).

Yeah I'm hoping to see it to 200k like my Passat, can't see why not.

I was looking at your car Jim, nice edition 100, would have gone for one of those as I like the piano black, sunroof, wheels and black paint but I couldn't live with the light grey interior, had a tan interior before and it was a nightmare to keep clean.

What are the main differences apart from the above between the 100 and elegance?

Also notice yours is an AVF like my Passat, does that mean yours is 6 speed? I think the one I am picking up is an AWX 5 speed.

AVF in Superb means you've won the EYF tiptronic "prize"... :)

AWX is the manual equiv.

Ed.100 gets you solar sunroof, some nice black trim instead of wood, special wheels, mats, special interior.  Maybe some other bits, but I think that is the crux of it.

Interior is good actually - the seats are grey leather, but all the carpets and door cards are black (unlike the K&K which has white door cars, and light elegances which get light carpets).  I don't baby mine too much inside and it stays nice and clean.

Ah, explains a lot, so there were no 6 speed 130's then, shame I quite like the 6 speed but I hear the 5 speed is the better box although smaller clutch.

Can't wait to pick this up and do some OEM+ mods, nothing lairy, keeping it fairly standard but Eibachs are a must looks like a 4x4, VCDS mods if there are any? Just generally keep it well serviced and clean.

One more question, do these have headlight washers as standard on the Elegance?

Will probably have more questions when I pick it up :-)

The 6 speed box is significantly better than the 5, When I had a Golf 130 that went in for a service I had a Passat 130 for the day. Same engine, Golf was 6 speed, Passat 5. The Golf had better acceleration in any gear compared to the Passat, the 5 speed just didn't suit the engine anyway near as well as the 6, I guess the ratios were just plain wrong in the 5.

Yes, the Elegance should have headlight washers as standard.

I agree the 6 speed box is better for driving, will miss that 6th gear but I'm sure I will adapt eventually.

The 6 speed in the Passat does seem to suffer more problems than the 5 speed though, notably reverse gear and gearbox whine, I've had no problems with mine other than the ball linkage needs replacing but it's a £10 part.

Finally collected it!! Done 600 miles in 4 days, averaged 54mpg, 90% motorway, beautiful to drive, remapped on day 2 to 165bhp and 280lb ft of torque, no faults on VCDS before or after.

Found a few issues I am not happy with, the tyres are poo, the wheels are quite scuffed (refurb), the green shows a lot of light scratches (DA polish), rear parking sensor duff, needs a definite stiffening up and lowering so I have AP shocks and Eibach springs to go on, brolly missing (new one ordered)

On the upside the history is spot on, 3 keys, came with radio code in book, sat nav has upgraded 2011 OE disc, engine purrs, I found an OE MS Design rear boot spoiler on the Bay and got it for £25 in primer, this will be fitted when the buffing is done, all electrics work and no water ingress (will be done anyway), leather is immaculate as is the whole interior.

Colour is Canadian Green Metallic (touch up ordered).

Managed to haggle a bit more off and ended up with £2900 which is probably over the odds but try finding one with 70k manual and genuine one owner history from the same dealer who serviced it and MOT'd it,

Going in tomorrow for a 4 wheel alignment and 4 new tyres, then new suspension next week.

Happy chappy, bring on 200k which is my plan ;-)

Ah righty ho, might just get it checked as I think it's just the tyres need replacing, although the fronts are matching one is brand new and the other half worn, it may be causing the slight pull to the left.

Well car is awesome but a tad twitchy in the wet, sooooo,,,,http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361313443763?_trksid=p2060353.m2763.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT are being ordered,

Bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252509868032?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152303487275?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381518048168?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272430224343?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I have uprated shocks so will get the full low and stiff as at the moment it's like Stena Lines finest!

Keeping it stock, wheel refurb and new tyres will be done after the suspension, then rear spoiler and paint detail.

It still shocks me the amount of toys I have, keep finding things.

I think it may have had new wings as the under bonnet lip where the bolts are is black? Would Skoda do it like that if there were a warranty replacement?
