VRS Gigaro centre caps

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Had some wheels refurbished that I picked up second hand but I think I've been given the wrong centre caps. They've got a black surround and are a very tight fit - they're genuine, VAG part number on the back, but they look wrong.

Can someone chime in with the correct part number please? Old style green logo, pre-2013.

Thanks, Sam

Sorry no idea of the part numbers but is it not the thickness of the paint or powder coating that has been applied at the wheel centres making the caps not fit.?

It seems like the clips aren't deep enough to engage. I'm talking 5/6mm out, not a couple of MM that paint would add.

Also, my caps look different to the VRS pics I've found on here. I'll attach a photo.

Will be home later and I can check what part number I have.

Those in your picture look to be different caps  from those that came with Gigaro wheels,

the early ones that often got replaced under warranty before 3 years were up.

EDIT,

forget that, they look the same when i look again at them on Dark Chrome Gigaro.

There is never much coating around the centre hole be that Dark Chrome, Black, White or Silver.

(hence why so many Dark Chrome Gigaro are corroded around the centre hole and the plastic caps, and even over the other areas of the wheels.

Picture from Google images.

So the supplied caps are part number 1j0601171 - a google image search shows almost all results as VW caps

I also have an old set of Skoda caps, from 15" Antares wheels, these are part number 6u0601151l. Much better made with a metal spring on the back. Will post pics once I have a chance.

I've added some photos so others can see the difference.

The grey 6U0601151L seem to be much better quality, with a metal spring to retain them.

The black 1J0601171 caps are prone to breaking the clips, all mine seem to have at least one broken clip.

Yet to see a VRS in the flesh to take a look but photos online seem to show that the 6U0601151L caps are always fitted.
