Best new extended warranty deal?

Recommended Posts

My Fabia 1.2 TSI SE has its third birthday next month. I keep meaning to investigate an extended warranty, but have never really pursued this in earnest.

As I understand it - the original warranty (Skoda) cannot be extended, but is replaced by what effectively is a third party insurance scheme. If this is the case, what are the experiences of members who have put this cover to the test (for example on major items).

I know that some have contributed to this theme in the past - but replies seem to be a little negative, and these insurance covers a little suspect as to their true worth.

What can be recommended chaps?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

You will get an email from Skoda shortly, assuming they have your email address of course. They will invite you to take out an annual warranty with them. Two levels of cover, full or named components. Three levels of excess with each type of cover too.

I looked at third party warranty provider reviews and decided to renew with Skoda on the feedback from these reviews.

Read through the terms and conditions thoroughly prior to renewing your cover mind as the named cover seems to be more limited in cover provided, £1000 max per claim I think it was.

I have just renewed with the Skoda warrenty again (into forth year of ownership ) and consider, after further research, that Skoda is the better option.

The named cover wasn't much cheaper so have taken the full cover.

I consider it good value.

I too have gone for the full cover. As an afterthought, I believe that the extended warranty does not include continuance of AA assistance - which has to be renewed separately?

I have just received a 'renewal reminder' from the AA asking for £90 approx.

When I go to the AA website - the offer to a new customer is much lower (if I have interpreted the offer correctly) This makes a nonsense of the renewal offer, which seems to take advantage of the likely automatic action that Skoda owners will just renew without considering other options.

2ndskoda, I suggest that you call AA customer services and do a bit of firm but polite haggling. My wife (the cover is in her name) always does this and successfully gets the price down. Good luck
