Heater or no heater ?

Recommended Posts

ok now im not sure if i have a problem or not and this is just a question on what to look for

Symptoms are this

Heater works fine on first start of day within 10 -15 mins  ie heat comes out of the ducts,no matter what configuration the right hand controller is in.

But after driving for an hour there is cool air coming out of the vents? (left and right).

It feels warm in the vehicle, and if you turn the heat dial up more it will get hotter but does the same thing again ie cool air out of side ducts after a while say 10 mins

my question is this

Is this the way the climatic system works or do i have a problem??

There is no loss of coolant and car runs fine, but i have heard about air locks and head gasket failures on my 1.9pd tdi engine

any help appreciated.

If you have the heating set to 20 and the temperature of the car is 20 then it doesn't need to continue heating the cabin so you will notice the fan speed decrease and the temperature to the air coming out will also decrease to maintain the temperature.

In an attempt to prevent cool drafts at the driver and passengers, when the car is in AUTO mode and it is heating up the cabin the majority of the air will come out of the windscreen vent and the footwell vents unlike in summer when the cool air from the air con comes mainly out of the front vents so you can direct it at yourself to make you feel cooler

So I would say you don't have a problem and the 1.9 pd is a great engine so there's no need to worry
