Special Edition Fabia vRS #745 208k HELP

I'm on the search for a Fabia vrs and have come across many dealers who are asking silly money for 100k+ mileage cars

I've seen a private sale of a limited edition vrs for a reasonable price of below 2 grand but the mileage is on 208, which is only about 20k a year and can tell by previous mot it's always been driven and taken care of

I was wondering wether getting this and even when the engine does go boom it would be cheaper to buy a new engine then to pay the 5g plus that everyone is asking

It's either that or a black one with 140k on clock

I don't mind spending a bit on more parts for the limited edition as its so cheap but the whole of the car will have done 200k will it be as reliable as a 140 or is it not that much difference?

I would rather have a higher mileage car thats been well looked after than a neglected low mileage one,all you can do is view the car & see how it drives etc,it may last another 50k without any issues or it may not last another 10k who knows...you may be better asking the mods to move this to the fabia mk1 section as you will get a better response.

That's exactly my thought the previous moT show its flew threw each year but this could mean nothing's been changed and everything is still original or it shows it's been looked after and anything it's needed it's had done... It is really just a gamble I understand but I reckon it's worth the risk as I can eventually buy new parts all over and transform it into a new car

Or is it worth saving the extra money and buying one for 3k with lower mileage?

Don't know how to ask mods too move this would benefit from more replies

As you say, the MOT only records the state of the car at a single point each year, you really need to see if there's any other service history for evidence of if or when any of the more expensive jobs were done.

I had a vRS with the earlier ASZ engine until earlier this year and it reached just over 200k miles and had been relatively problem free, apart from the radiator needing replacement (old age) and needing several replacement rear brake disks before they were worn down due to uneven wear, but it was getting to the point where the running gear was getting a bit tired and various boots and bushes etc. needed doing.

Then the turbo went, replacement was a major expense relative to the value of the car but, after some thought, I had it done with the intention of keeping the car for another year.

A few months later the gearbox broke; I sold the car (on here) for spares or repair as I wasn't prepared to put any more money into fixing it.

So, although my experience may not be typical, your 200k miles special edition may be storing up a lot of problems, but if the previous owner has already replaced the turbo, clutch, dmf, radiator, recent cambelt and water pump etc. etc. it may happily cruise on for another 100k - only you know if you are willing to take that gamble.

Go and look at them both and try to buy based on overall condition and the verifiable history, try not to get distracted by the SE's leather and pretty blue paint job.

That's what I'm thinking, there could be plenty waiting to go wrong and is it really worth spending the 1-2k on doing it up when I can buy a less mileage one for 3/4?

I've seen a black Fabia with private reg P3 UFC with a lot of mods that's probably been someone's off here that I can grab for a cheap price I've seen it posted previously in the past year and wonder why it's so cheap now it only has 130k but reckon I could get away with getting it cheap selling some bits off it and spending the earnings on rebuilding it to a better standard.

Trying to find the cheapest temp car insurance for a day getting quotes of around 60£ hope this allows a car wit no insurance to be driven as I seen Cuvva allow you to insure by hour increments so it works out 14£ a hour but can't be used if vehicle doesn't hold valid insurance already which won't work in this case

That engine is such a strong power plant.

Most Skoda Technician that I've been involved with, will tell you that the unit is virtually  unburstable.

Loved my mk1 vRSs ,one of which was the SE.
