ASG Cold Weather problem

Has anyone else experienced a strange problem with the ASG models during cold weather.  When there is a frost and the car is cold, you put it into drive, press the accelerator and nothing happens - revs don't increase and the vehicle doesn't move.  Put the car back into neutral and the accelerator works again increasing revs. Put it back into drive and the accelerator goes dead again.  If the care has idled for a couple of minutes and is switched off, going back to the car 10 mins later and everything is fine.  Has happened on 3 occasions now in frosty weather. Car going in to dealer today but they hadn't heard of this issue before.  The dealer did have the car for 3 weeks in the summer trying to get the gearbox to work again after the gearbox recall.

I've had my citigo ASG 4 years now and have never encountered anything like this. Maybe I've been lucky so far but never had any problems bar a loose light switch which was replaced under warranty.

Hope you get things sorted

Thanks rollyball0.  The dealer had our car for 2 frosty mornings but the fault didn't show and they don't know what is causing it.  They need evidence to be able to investigate further under warranty so looks like we'll have to video us starting the car every cold morning to prove it and before they will refer it to Skoda.  It must be something in the electronic control system for the gearbox to actually disengage the throttle pedal action.  Leaving the car for 10 mins after starting the engine and then stopping it seems to solve the issue, just not always practical to do so.

Will update if we get any further info, but would appreciate if you could do the same thanks.

Skoda like 'Simply Clever', So the Dealership Master Tech can talk to Skoda UK, Skoda CZ & VW and then the 2nd biggest car manufacturer in the world might

have Top Technicians / Engineers work it out, unless all are suspended / on gardening leave.

There doesn't seem many owners with this problem so I've tried a bit of easy d-i-y on it, Skoda technical probably lost interest - and I may have a solution to this problem. Last evening I wrapped some insulation around the computer unit (slim aluminum box just behind the battery) and held it as best room allowed in small plastic bag to keep dirt & moisture away. (I used friendly to handle old pillow stuffing but expanded polystyrene might be easier around it, jammed behind the battery gap with a few elastic bands to hold it around unit). The car failed to drive the previous morning for the usual 30 seconds ticking over (temperature -2). The morning under test was colder - 4 on a 6 o/c morning start and yes! ...drove straight away (couldn't see much thro' windows with the car facing north mind you). If this is proves to be a good solution I think it should be removed in the spring - it could be a serious fault cause in the hot weather if ventilation required, I don't know ...and there is a need to be careful with watches &  rings working so close to battery terminals. Let us know if it works for yous...

It leads me to suggest Citigos should have an insulated battery box, like my Fabia. Batteries are prone to freezing in our cold weather & safer. Must make a polystyrene box round it one day...

Every time I have problems (Not so many times though), I have videorecorded the faults - and I have manual gear. However, it's not easy to record faults that does not happen very often, unless you have a routine to take a video every time you start the engine and put it into drive. Once in a while the engine lamp is lit after startup when a "ping"-sounds at the same time. If I shut the engine down, and start it again, everything is normal. But before I shut it down I take a picture of the lamp, just in case. I also have a engine diagnostic tool (just for reading out any issues) that I put in while the engine lamp is lit, but the diagnostics cannot find anything wrong.

I have also had some noises in the rear bumpers or something, like something is loose when I drive very slow, or backing out of the garage. The dealer could not find anything wrong because they could not replicate the problem, untill one day when a technician went with me and I found some bumpy road and drow slowly. He could confirm the noise came from the rear right side. The bumper was replaced together with some "bearings". But the problem is still there. Not a BIG issue.

Strangely at -5 and -6 deg last week the car was fine.  At +1 deg this morning it wouldn't move despite restarting it 6 times - really frustrating.  Have now sent a second video of this to the dealer as the car is still under warranty and I am seeing them tomorrow morning.  Don't want to do any DIY repairs as car should be fit for purpose or Skoda can have it back.  Can't believe we are the only 2 people experiencing this problem.  I've noticed that tickover is disrupted and drops slightly (even feeling a bit rough similar to a mis-fire) when in drive and pressing down on the accelerator.   Really disappointing as is spoiling what is a great little car.
