New battery that fit under the batter cover

Recommended Posts

Good morning all,

So after 14 years service the battery on my 1.8T VRS gave up the ghost this morning.  I thought I would just go out and order one but realised that is needs to fit under the plastic cover.  Therefore can anyone recommend a battery that fits?  Dimensions are roughly (L)24 x (W)17cm x (H) 18cm.

Thinking an S4 005 Bosch Car Battery 12V 60Ah Type 027 S4005 might be ok?

Any help appreciated and I did use the search function and couldn't find anything about new batteries and the battery cover...

Cheers!

Jon

You know, I wondered about this when I needed to get a new battery (Bosch same quality) for my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza, but if you get what Bosch suggests physical size wise, it will fit okay, it is just the top profile looks different maybe does not look so flat, but they do fit okay.

Thanks for the speedy reply rum4mo!  I think I am going for S5 005 Bosch Car Battery 12V 63Ah Type 027 S5005 which appears to be 1cm taller but my measurements might have been a bit off at 6.30am and -5 this morning!

Yep I think 027 is the correct size. I would recommend a Bosch/Varta. Have a look at Euro Car Parts, Carparts4Less and Tayna Batteries for the replacement.

14 years is very good going! I've had my car 5.5 years and not had to replace the battery yet - I keep wondering if it's going to last another winter!

Edit: EuroCarParts are expensive for batteries at the moment even with discount. I would order from Tayna. :)

Thanks vrsTom :D  Tayna have it listed for £69.01 so looks like that is where it will be coming from!  The car has only done just over 55k but have recently switched it to a 14m round commute so not getting as charged up as it used to be.

55k?! Not even run in! ;)

I'm commuting 80 miles a day at the moment so mine gets a good charge.

Keep an eye out for me around Cambridge by the way! What colour is yours?

Mine is black on a '54 plate and owned since new  Often on A1307 which heads your way!

Ah nice! I don't remember seeing yours about but I go along the A1307/A505 most days so I'll keep an eye out. If/when you decide to sell it let me know as I might be interested! ;)

A whole £1 or so cheaper as its free delivery from these guys.

Not quite:

Varta and Bosch are the same batteries with different labels I believe.

That hasn't helped with the Land Rover Defender itch that I need to scratch!  Having said that I still enjoy driving it after 14 years so won't be going anytime too soon...

In terms of the battery I got the Bosch one from EuroCarParts because they had 25% off and can deliver it tomorrow!  Worked out £3.00 more than Tayna.

Are you seeing different prices to me? The Bosch S4 on ECP is £89.24 after discount. The Varta D15 is £68.51 delivered next day from Tayna and is the same spec as the Bosch S5 (and better than the S4). So over £20 cheaper and it's a better battery...

Thanks for pointing this out - I think I will order the one you mention and take the other back to ECP.  I got confused dashing between meetings and with multiple screens open

Cheers for this but have now ordered from Tayna - I need to stop buying batteries!  Hope it will be straightforward to fit - got to do it in the dark!

Easy enough!

You are indeed right!  Fitted in no problems and the cover fitted fine too - got to use a socket and a spanner too :D

Also great service from Tayna - would recommend!
