Fitting front fogs to an Octavia MK1

Recommended Posts

Thinking about swapping my 02 Fabia SDI in March, and I'm interested in getting a MK1 Octavia estate.

One of the things I definitely want on my next car is front foglights (I know they get broken etc but recent experiences not having them in heavy fog on some of the unlit roads near me means I don't want to be without in future), but most models I've seen on Autotrader don't have them.

Did they come as standard with any trim level, and if I did buy a car without, how easy and expensive is it to fit them myself? If it's the same as my Fab, I'm thinking I'd just wire them into the same switch as the rear fogs so all come on together?

Cheers

The Fog lights are in the headlights on my MK1 (03) estate.

Looking at the wiring diagrams, the wiring for them should be pre-installed, so you'd just need to replace the main light switch with one that has both front & rear selections

As #2,  front fogs are pre-installed and operational in the headlights on the Elegance and L&K specs. The "bullseye" lenses will exist in Classic, Ambiante and vRS models too although I'm not sure if fogs were even an option on them; You will definitely need a new headlight switch though even if all the wiring and the bulb holders are present.

My vRS has front fogs - to be fair, they are a pain as you can't have the rear fogs on independently of the front. The fronts are next to useless anyway (in my opinion) being mounted as high as they are in the headlamp, they don't really go under the fog, just bounce off as the headlights do. If anything I would get an aftermarket set and put them in the grilles at the bottom of the bumper, utilising the OE switches and wiring to connect them up

I'd disagree about the dazzle argument, and also...

I don't even suggest using the side grilles except on SDi and non-turbo petrols because the RH one is the air feed to the standard intercooler.

Personally, I haven't found them to be any use in fog at all, it's just a pain that you can't have the rears on without the front, I may just disconnect the bulbs instead. Good point with the intercooler though

Ambiente spec 2004 diesel has the front fogs too, inc bulbs..

+ Ambient spec 2001 here. I find them really good in the fog strangely. Our Ambient spec's may be different though as an Irish spec Ambient has manual heater controls and no AC where as the UK spec Ambient had climtronic type heater controls, AC and a rear wiper. We may have font fogs as a concession. At this stage I am happy to have less to go wrong though.

Mine technically had a rear wiper too.. it just didnt work the last couple of yrs :D

i found the fogs alright too tbh..

But yeah.. manual heaters. None of your fancy climatronics.. maybe it was an option though

Aye all those bits were options for Irish spec, just not standard. Helped price point stay low too. Mk2 FL vRS's came with 17" zenith's standard in ROI while UK spec had 18" neptunes etc, ROI spec had the option of folding wing mirrors while UK supplied cars that option wasn't allowed. It's random how it all works. The bother I had getting a replacement electric mirror control for drivers door was unreal, totally different part to UK and most other nations specs (being RHD but EU layout), had to buy one from Poland and strip it down for parts in end lol.
