Hi all!

I have just bought a 1995 red Felicia, I love her, only 12600 miles an all!

Only thing is I'm facing a slight problem, the light on the left hand side of the dashboard seems to have a mind of its own. The temperature gauge and most importantly speedometer do not light up when you turn them on, instead they decide to come on sometimes, very rarely, either for a short moment or for a while. I cannot work out what triggers them to come on! I'm thinking maybe it is a loose connection or something? Everything else comes on fine!!

The previous owners told me about the problem but couldn't shed any light (no pun intended) on the issue, and just said they lived with it as they rarely drove at night! the majority of my driving is in the dark so i'm struggling!

Checked all fuses and they are all good, as is the bulb, Any experience with this and tips would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, Alice! Congratulations for the car, you did a smart choice. We all love Felicia.

The bulb issue: it's a bad contact between the socket of the bulb and the printed circuit board. The solution is easy, twist the socket of the bulb a little. The 'bad' news is that getting to that socket is not an easy job for a woman, unless you have very thin arms :) The socket is green (see photo below)

I think the easiest fix is to let a local Felicia owner do the job for you.

Yes, it is just the metallic tabs of the socket making intermittent contact with the rest of the circuit. Here is a close up view to see what I'm talking about. After 20 years it is perfectly acceptable that a little oxidation prevents a bulb to stay lit.

  • 2 years later...

hello! so I still haven't got round to getting this fixed but regretting it now.. as wondering weather it could cause the constant battery drain I have now on my car! (see my most recent thread)

thanks
