I have a similar unit here. It needs an adapter to make it physically fit the Quadlock connector in the car, it may or may not work with the steering wheels controls, but it needs the Component Protection sorting out. When connected to the car it doesn't work because it's designed to work with a specific car and reads critical information from the car it's coded to fit into. If it doesn't read the info required, it doesn't work. Think of it like a security code, but bigger and harder.

The system won't work if Component Protection is active on the head unit. It comes on, but there's no sound and the functions are limited, and it states "Component Protection Active" on the screen. After that, I'm not sure if making the steering wheel controls work is relevant.

Knowing Aliexpress, the stuff you buy from there is exactly what you expect it to be or worse. If you're happy with what you're buying and it's cheap, and you're aware of any possible pitfalls (like sellers chinglish translated assertions that it'll work, import tax and suchlike), then go ahead and buy it. If you have any doubts and need to as questions like this, I wouldn't bother.

If you absoutely have to buy one, UK seller on Ebay would be a much better bet. That way you have Paypal and Ebay on your side if it falls over.

Are you sure that it will have component protection Rusty?

Looks like someone has fitted it straight into a mk5 Golf.

I'm sure that I've read that these don't even have a code.

I have a VW 6RD 035 187B currently fitted in my Rapid.

Plugs directly in & no code required. ( just needs a 2 into 1 antenna lead apapter.)

This one has Apple Carplay and green back lit buttons & also the Skoda logo on start up.

Multi function steering wheel works with it.

Supports rear vision camera too. (default on.. to code off set byte 3 to 00 [40 is on])

How good are these units as I'm thinking of getting one for my 2009 Octavia mainly for the CarPlay, will they just plug straight in and are the buttons correct as ive heard on some units the buttons can be different to what they say?

Hi,
thanks fro the info & could you kindly point me to the source from where you procured it & if possible the price!

& did you not a canbus simulator for the swap?

thanks

Purchased from local seller (AU).

Is the type you can source from Aliexpress.. with the "APP" button on the right hand side centre.

No canbus simulator required as my car has canbus standard.

The unit performs well via carplay. Bluetooth via the cars original module will not work ... use the bluetooth connection via the RCD330.

AM radio reception is poor due to the loss of the phantom power from the original deck. You'll need to fit a dual fakra to single fakra phantom power antenna adapter if you wish decent AM reception again.

If the unit has the "APP" button on the right hand side centre there is no issue with the buttons. That occurs to the ones with the "SETUP" button in that centre position.

Check with the seller if it plugs straight in. I'd assume yes if your Octy has canbus.

Hi Manoj ,

Thank you for the excellent info.  I have been searching a way to install RCD 330 Plus on my Rapid 2014 Elegance. So far no luck. I tried with multiple adapter . Quadlock and with simulator. but none of them able to detect the ACC position and thus no Bluetooth etc. I bought it from aliexpress.  Someone told me that indian Version do no support it.  Could you share more details about how to reach the BCM module do the connections ?

Hi aromal

Only quadlock is enough for the connection. Simulator you don't need.

This is complete DIY. do it with care. As precaution you can disconnect battery.

1. Locate your BCM

Under steering wheel you can find BCM (pic 1)

2. You need to work on the white one

Press the harness lock and lift black lock.

      Detach from BCM

3. Now open the notch of white cap and pull out the harness (be gentle while removing)

4. Now connect 2 cables from ISO -Quadlock to the harness at pin 20(+) and 21(-)

Hope you can identify + and - in the two cables (one with black lining is -ive )

Refer 2nd pic from my previous post.

(These cable pins are one time push so make sure you are plugging in appropriate slots. Also consider your cables path from where you can pass through)

Now plug back everything and you can use the radio.

Bluetooth will work

MFSW controls will work

Hi manoj,

Any idea where we can source the bcm connector pins?

Do you need pin details? I have already shared in my previous post. You can refer C - 73-pin connector -T73b- , white

You need to open notch from top (where the wire enters harness) you can see one notch on either side just pull them together to take connector out

Hi Manoj,

Thanks for replying to my queries.

Is your HU desay or no name & can you direct me to a vendor on Ali express?

Mine is the DSG ambition variant, Do you think it would work fine with mine?

Thanks again.

BCM connection did not work out and finally my BCM got short circuit. . The car is in Skoda Service center and they rectified the problem.  I will check with vagtune to see if they can install it properly.
