MK2 Fabia VRS (Aka Green Monster)

Kobayashi

Recommended Posts

I could not have done the majority of this below without the help of Briskoda members and now the car is a dream to drive and is a 'Stage 1' car now.

This may be useful for beginners of 'customizing' a MK2 VRS (there are still good ones out there - even 6 year old CAVES)

Also Moving this to projects as easier to reference back to, nicknamed 'Green Monster' by one of my work colleagues when I first bought it 4 years ago on 8500miles.

First mod I do on any car is speakers to the rear parcel shelf. A firm called Racetech did this for me back in 2012.

Boot Light + Speakers

Fast Forward 4 years to 2016 another 28,000 miles, and around 50 Litres of Castrol Edge, Yep my Cave was an oil burner.

Having waited just long enough for a solution at SKODA / VW, but with warranty and bloom payment pending I plunged on the final known solution which was the CAVD Sirocco Oil Jets,Breather Pipe, Intake Manifold fixes.....rather than trading in.

So a 2010 CAVE Engine uprated to CAVE+ by Skoda at my expense.

Nov 2016: Time for some Interior Lighting upgrades and the some brighter H7 headlights:

Map Readers

Glove Box

Car Lights

In Dec 2016 : Had Milltek Cat Back, Denso Spark plugs, DV+ Valve T9355 fitted by ADE Tuning in Darwen, with custom map taking the VRS from 173.9BHP to 193.4BHP. Also had the rear 25KG weights removed.

Caves as Standard are 177BHP this is lower than the newer CTHE, but considering the age of the car very happy with result.

Dyno Run

Todays Mod a HFI 1.4 Carbon Cold Air Intake not seen many of these but is another option for an intake kit that fits neatly into the cold air intake and behind the standard battery. An alternative to the ITG maxogen

HFI 1.4 Carbon Cold Air Intake

I reckon this has got me to 200BHP and a further dyno run in the new year shall confirm.

Wishlist for 2017, Improve Handling! Upgrade Brakes, Front Tyres to be changed to 215's,

Now as standard SKODA tell me I have sports suspension at the rear, but not the front!
This was an option for whoever purchased the factory car before me, so need some help with this.

Would the 2 mods below be a noticeable improvement. Also can anyone clarify SPORTS SUSPENSION.
The rear does feel good, the front feels soft and spongy.

Would also like to lower the car slightly with the mods below, many thanks for reading:

So Its Coilovers Or Eibach Lowering springs

Anti Roll bar, is this good on its own or better with coilovers?

Hi mate, nice MK2.

Personally i'd reccomend coilovers over springs but that's just my opinion, one of the best mods you can do is get a RARB they totally transform the car.

If you have any questions feel free to pm me, there's also a Facebook group for the MK2 Fabia vRS which you can search for.

How are you finding the intake? It looks pretty much the same as the forge one in terms of layout, any idea what the difference is between the 2? Nice to see it netted you some gain.

I think the forge one needs a smaller battery or turn battery tray 90 degrees? For me it was choice of ITG maxogen, or the HFI one (no messing with battery)

The HFI looks a lot neater and more 'stock OEM' for me, really pleased with it.

It arrived as standard cone filter (red) but I paid extra for the pipercross foam attachment so really it has 2 filters for less than the cost of the ITG.

(I might swap them next service just to see if sound any different)

In total an 8.4BHP gain, maybe 2BHP of that was Shell Nitro Fuel.  200BHP was a nice target to get to, now its time to save up for some

handling upgrades!

Great thread you have here.

I too have a 2010 CAVE and to be fair (touch wood) it doesn't burn an xcessive amount of oil.. 250 ml per 2-3000 miles so I can live with that.

Did you notice much difference when the rear weights were removed?

Intersting to see about the front suspension issues with you saying it's standard Fabia spec....I've had a shed load of issues with mine with H&R Springs on for VRS. Seemed to be too low and for some strange reason they caused a load of camber on the front!

Keep the updates coming mate.

Problem for me is right camber turns on 'end of motorway' roundabouts car dips to the left, tyre tread wears quicker on the left, not really notice a difference with the weights to be honest as the rear of the car is pretty solid, I only travel 5 miles to work so the spare wheel is coming out soon,

Im saving up now for 'front anti roll bar' and 'coilovers' next service August 2017 along with 215 tyres. Hopefully this will sort the handling issues out (and maybe lower car a little bit too)

the wife does 12k a year in her citigo and in 3 years she still on the same tyres!

I am on my 3rd set in 4 years @ 4K miles a year, so something not right.

Always using premium tyres like SP Sport Dunlop.

Glad you not using oil, its weird how some use lots without breaking down. This twincharger engine is a bit of a mystery.

That photo has strange perspective view to it? My wheels are straight in line with arches. What actually is correct setting close to 0.20 degrees?

Well, needed a new number plate as mine was cracked and decided on a private reg, (1 of no's omitted) - Most reg ending VRS will cost you £250 on average with DVLA, and around £50 for some legal plates. Reg Ending 'VXR' for the corsa boys is over double that amount.

  • ATTENTION: Some newer canbus/bulb error systems may cause the lights to blink, turn off or still give an error on the dash. On this rare occasion the bulbs will require additional load resistors to ensure normal working bulbs, please contact us for details (2007/2008 onwards VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat/VW group cars may require these)

Resistors for Reg Plate Festoons - the same company on Ebay offers VAG Plug play resistors not on ebay so i ended up returning these but you can solder them on,otherwise you get the dreaded yellow bulb warning on Dash. Ask for Plug & play resistors if you dont fancy soldering.

How come you've fitted illegal ones then? :D

I think you might be referring to displaying of registered company of plate makers.

Company name of plate and address is in RH corner, but it is very small. Tiny in fact!

Slogans are 'frowned upon' I think, but a lot of dealerships use that same space to advertise IE Lookers, Motorpoint, Simpsons, Skoda etc.. blah blah,

Hi-Line font is legal, spacing is legal, and as far aware, no need for displaying 'flag' or GB symbol unless travelling abroad

The spacing is correct and it does have the manufacturers post code and name and the BSau145d on the lower right hand side. However, the letters and numbers should be solid black and not 2 tone. Also, the D should not have the bits sticking out of the left hand side. It depends how strict the police are whether they take action. There was a cruise at J27 retail park last year and i know a few friends who were dealt with for plates like that as they didn't conform.

i think the LED lighting MOD i have done, accentuates the 'line' in the middle Hi Line font. I take your point on the D. Does look a bit sticking out now you mention it.

Seen a lot of modded cars with Hi Line font, i must of used 3 or 4 different websites which all had 'Hi Line' as a legal font.

In normal daylight it looks like this, i suppose mine is close to the bone.
