A bit of advice on alloys please

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody, I am picking up my silver rapid spaceback 1.2tsi this week, the only thing I wish to change are the 16" dione wheels.

I am thinking of savio 17" wheels as I like the look.

What I was wondering is, what's the best thing to do with the 16" wheels with tyres? Ebay?

Also if I order tyres from black circles with fitting do you think that's all the garage would need to fit the new alloys or would an extra fee be incurred for changing wheels? I'm assuming not as they would have to take the wheels off to change tyres anyway right?

Apologies for the silly questions bit of a car novice with stuff like this!

Thanks in advance

James.

Join Freedom on here (is/was £12) and sell on this forum. Got to be cheaper than paying ebay fees and you have possibly a ready audience so to say for the alloys. Not sure what other models would suit these alloys.

Regards the fitting guessing they shouldn't charge extra for swapping your wheels, as you say they just have the same work to do, and no tyre disposal, that's if you are keeping rims and tyres to sell on. Infact if you think about it there shouldn't be any tyre disposal charge which is added by most these days if you are keeping them.

Hi James, if you are going to do a lot of winter condition driving over the next few years and finances aren't too critical, how about considering a set of winter tyres on the 16s?

Thanks warrior, a more bulkier tyre you mean? The only reason I wanted a bigger alloy/tyre is because they seem to look too small for the car. I only joined the forum a few days ago but from what I've read the ride height seems to be an issue! Thanks for your help

Hi Jaymes, no I meant getting the 17s of your choice, if you prefer their look and using the 16s, fitted with winter tyres (Ie. softer compound, different tread pattern) for the winter season.

Ah get ya! That's a great idea, I assume I probably wouldn't get much for the 16's anyway?!

Always worth a try, but used wheels / tyres tend to get heavily discounted to achieve a sale - that's how I got my winters.
