New Rapid owner , first post

Recommended Posts

Hello all

My first post here , just bought my first Skoda last week and up to now I'm loving it.

It's a 14 plate Rapid SE 1.2 tsi 105 in race blue , just over 20k miles on the clock and pretty much unmarked both inside and out , I've come from a 13 plate 1.4 tsi Mk7 Golf which might seem a little odd but being 47 with 16 years no claims and them still asking nearly £600 for insurance for me left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Being a second car we just can't justify it ,besides the car was kinda like a hand me down from my wife , we bought an E class Merc Cab last year and we chopped in my high mileage Mazda 6 est against it and I kept the Golf , even the Mazda 6 being a 150bhp 2.0l turbo diesel was cheaper than the Golf , mental insurance companies.

So sold the Golf bought the Rapid , saved a couple of grand in the transaction , happy days , the Rapid is just £220 insurance , bit more like it for an oldie like me. :D

I also go fishing quite a bit and last year with the Golf was a little frustrating to say the least , the Rapid has a huge boot and all my gear fits in no problem with just the 40 split seat down for my rod bag , excellent.

Planning a few mods but they won't all be at once , first thing is that horrendous ride height , it's just gotta go , so eibach 30mm drops will do and maybe the ARB kit too , we'll see.

Although I'm very pleasantly surprised by how pokey the 1.2 tsi is I really fancy a Shark stage 1 remap , 125bhp (ish) here we come.

As is usual when you first get a car (for me anyway) , I always wanna improve things here and there like that damn ride height , theres also a few other bits n bats I'd like so I've been browsing SuperSkoda for some ideas.

I think the black grille and badges would go well with the colour and probably the black lower frt bumper spoiler and small black rear boot lip spoiler.

Also fancy a Columbus sat nav as its got the std one in it (cant remember the name) , which is a bit .......meh!!

Love the fact it's got 17's on it already and I think they'll look even better when it's lowered to the height it should've been from the bloody factory.

The only thing I really miss from the Golf is the Auto lights , is that something I can change ?

I'm sure i'll have ALOT more questions as time goes on and I'll appreciate the help if needed.

Anyway heres a couple of shots of the car , just cleaned it , no proper polishing or detailing done yet.

Looking good and welcome.

They are huge in the back, dining table and four chairs in mine before christmas, had room  for another two chairs easy. BTW Toledo is the same as the Rapid, so that's why I'm here. :D

Watch out you'll  be pushing your insurance premium up with those planned mods. :notme:

Hi Mick

Thanks for the welcome

Yeah I was really surprised just how much more room there was than the Golf.

Yeah I knew that before buying it , I've been quoted £40 extra for the above mentioned mods by my insurance company , so it's still less than have the Golf yet I'll have around the same power.

Surprises me that a 47 year old would want all those boy racer mods!! Although I have always been a stick in the mud!!!!

I'm 48 and still enjoy giving my Polo gti a bit of stick, the Rapid surprises a few Audi A3's on plenty of occasions too

Insurance is a strange thing, our Seat Toledo 1.6TDI is more expensive to insure than our Volvo V40 1.6TDI despite the latter being more expensive new RRP, service etc.

Anyway enjoy the new motor, looks good in the race blue.

When I was looking for my Octavia I never considered a Rapid. But looking at the pics of yours it really doesn't look a lot smaller than the Octavia. And those wheels really suit it as well, if you wanna sell them?...

If you really want a Columbus upgrade then I can supply one at a competitive price, either DAB or standard.

When I was looking for a Rapid at a nearby dealer I had to keep looking at the rear badges as they are so like the Octavia in size. Only difference I guess is width. The rear passengers space is huge, legroom I mean compared with most in it's class.

Haha , I don't consider them boy racer mods , just improvements to an already pretty good looking car.

I'd consider scraping on the floor low , 3" loud exhausts and mega induction roar from some sh*tty filter setup to be boy racer mods lol.

And besides , I'm a young 47 ha :D

Yeah I was really surprised just how much room there is inside both the boot and interior , it's quite a bit slimmer than the Octavia I'd say.

Nonono , I love the wheels :D

And yes i'd be very interested in prices for a Columbus , preferably the dab depending on price of course.

It will need to go on VCDS after fitting I guess?

Thanks for all the replies , much appreciated.
