  1. Wow, thank you so much Aki78 - this looks exactly like mine. I already know that is really useless to polish as the damage is NOT on the surface but underneath - there is NO sign of corrosion or anything else on the outside coating. The hologram/rainbow effect is even stronger if you check it in the dark with a bright flashlight. It really looks to me like the chroming of this part is not adequate. Now the 700€ question is: did anyone of you try to ask if it can be recognised as bad material? My 2014 octavia is still under warrianty but the dealer want to convince me that the fault is on the car wash and they can not replace this under warrianty.
  2. I just changed my phone and now have issues with bluetooth. Basicly it does connect and stays connected to the bluetooth but when having phonecalls it randomly disconnetcts from the handsfree mode, so I have to pick the phone while driving which is NOT ok. My old phone works fine. I was wondering if anybody is using the same phone with MIB1 Bolero? Do you have the same issues?
  3. Thank you so much. Well to be honest, the thing that bothers me the most is the fact that I can not even prove the stains occured due to improper cleaner or its improper usage. If other windows' trims were affected too I would have no doubt that the fault is at the carwasher's side... but the rest of the car's trims are just fine and without any stains or whatever and therefore I can't blame him or make him pay for the damage. This situation is really blowing my mind. I can only assume that the reason for my problem is defective material only on this part (with poorly galavanized or improperly protected trims only on the both back windows). I think I'll insist with the dealer as much as I can to make them fix/replace the trims or even better - I will take the responsible from the carwash with me and see where the discussion will lead to. Thanks for the advise I will try this - got nothing to lose after all...
  4. A few days ago I picked up my Octavia Estate at my carwash and noticed stains on the alu trim which wouldn't clean off. I am well aware that alu trims are usually very sensitive and it may happen by using agressive clening products on hot surface etc. The stains were only present on the alu trim around the 3rd windows (back) on both sides of the vehicle. I also tried polishing it but nothing seems to work - it feels like the stains are below the coating and you can not really "access" them from the surface. Also, my car wash (the same which I always use) told me they do not use agressive cleaning products. So I went to my local dealer asking for a replacement (my car is still under warrianty) who immediately turned me down saying they have got clear instructions by VW group not to accept such complains as many users are using wrong cleaning prodcuts which can damage the trims. What bothers me, that the trims around all other windows are in mint condition - check this pic to get the idea: I intentionally used the flash on the camera to make showing it better - you can see that the trim on the right is very different. As mentioned the same situation is on both sides of the 3rd window trims. All this just lets me think that there is something wrong with the material and I should insist for replacement. Dealer also told me that to both trims I also need to replace the windows and this costs quite a lot. Do you have any experience in such problems - any suggestions are welcome
  5. Hi Gerrycan, any news on this, how did your car behave since this event? When you mentioned your car averaged lower on your short trip made me think a lot about it. I noticed on my short trips I always get much higher averages, too.
  6. At first, I must say I'm so very pleased to be part of such a constructive community on this forum! Thanks to all who replied...especially the Australian mates! Returning to the issue... to be honest, so far it doesn't bother me much, perhaps this is quite a common issue and it's just us being hypersensitive It may also be that because my last 2 cars were turbodiesels and having the manual gearbox on my octy I tend to change gear early and drive under low revs - maybe most users dont do it so they do not notice this problem Cheers!
  7. I got my Octavia Elegance 1.4 TSI on January. Generally I am very pleased with the car (made about 14.000 km) and especially with the engine, however since the very start I noticed that under low revs (1200-1700 rpm) and when I press the throttle very gently, the engine hiccups/stutters a bit. Specially noticebale when I start the engine and drive off some parking with engine cold (but this also happens in summer so the outside temperature doesnt really affect it). This only for the first few 100 meters, then apparently the engine warms up, and it's all OK...like it never happened. A few months ago when I took the car to the service for the first check-up they told me they did not see any mistakes. I don't feel this problem has got any worse and doesnt bothe me too much, however I think it may indicate or initiante some other, perhaps more serious problems? What is your opinion on this? regards
  8. I'm sure there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. With this turning off of the LED light the system just lets you know which value the "auto" setting sets the fan speed to. you can do a test, too - I'll try to explain it how I discovered this feature myself: 1. set a temeprature and push the AUTO button 2. turn the fan speed knob to your left, counter clockwise to zero (and by this, the auto settings shuts off), then turn it to your right (clockwise) and see at which step the next LED does not light up --> this is the auto setting 3. somewhere in the setup of the climatronic system you can set the amount of power you want to use with the climatronic (dont remember the exact term but something like economy, medium and high/powerful). Change this setting and then repeat steps 1 and 2. you will see that now a different LED will stay off to tell you that the default "auto" setting of fan speed changed.
  9. one of the main reasons I chose my Octy... I just felt at home... you know that feeling when you just say... "yes, this is it" and it's my first Škoda, too. I had no doubts and I still feel I made the right choice
  10. but fact is IT DOES have more room which to me (and allegedly to most family car buyers) matters a lot. And when I was choosing my car I wanted a new model, a family car with lots of space in the rear, a good petrol engine which would be able to pull well with limited consumption and somewhat fun to drive, and of course to offer good value for the money (also considering the re-sell values). Didn't need a racing car, just a car that would go well enough and offering plenty of space. I didn't care about the brand (I never had a skoda before) so I sat in the leon and in the golf, too - in the end decided the octy was the best compromise for all my needs - I prefered picking the elegance with extras over a "naked" vrs for the same money. tl;dr: to each his own.
  11. depends on what you really need. The octy offers considerably more space...
  12. Well...you can put 2 more rings and then you'll have an audi :-) Sorry m8...I had to say it......I would wait for hotter weather before trying steam/hairdryer...
  13. hi, I think the Canton upgrade is worth it if you don't intend to modify anything on the audio system and want a better sound than stock system. The sound actually improves after some time. now a question: what are your favourite sound setup/settings and for which kind of music do you use it?
  14. I'd say: get the 1.4tsi if you can afford it. lovely engine, pulls so sweetly and theres plenty of torque when you need it. if you want to save on fuel just drive it gently and it will reward you with great mpg. very quiet and smooth.
