  1. Going for petrol vrs It does seem the best option overall but i feel as though a mk6 gti will depreciate a lot less as well as saving a couple of grand initially As well as that there really aren’t many VRS petrol mk3s for sale right now, especially within my 12 budget but I’ll just need to be patient
  2. Hi all, Big Mk3 Octavia Fan here, we currently have a 1.4 TSI Mk3 - it's been great. I am looking to change from my Abarth Competizione (180) to a Mk6 GTI or a MK7 VRS Octy - i need more room but the GTi will be big enough. The only reason I'm not considering a mk7 GTi is because it's just over my budget, i am struggling to find a good one for less than 12k but I can just about stretch to a MK3 VRS Petrol for that money. I actually prefer the styling of the MK3 VRS but feel as though i could get a really good low miles Mk6 GTi for less money. I'd expect the GTI to hold it's value better as well. Anyone driven both? How far ahead was the Mk3 MQB platform over the Mk6 Golf? Does the GTI handle better? Are golfs actually quieter inside or is that just myth?? I have sat in golfs and Octavia's before and struggle to see how the Golf is better built? They seem to use the exact same plastics and buttons?? Thanks all
  3. Battery is AGM - not sure if same Amp hours as previous battery unfortunately. This is the battery that has been installed https://www.halfords.com/motoring/batteries/car-batteries/halfords--096agm-start%2Fstop-agm-12v-car-battery-5-year-guarantee-548638.html?_gl=1*1fif13e*_up*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAjwx7GYBhB7EiwA0d8oe95kxIQM98orH8Rpr5qw2_b_lzy7cPzfs1Jurh6p3m_RQ3u1bvmeqBoC9jsQAvD_BwE Thanks
  4. thank you, i don't have access to any testing equipment at the moment unfortunately. I'd never checked SOC before we had this issue so i didn't know what normal reading should be. Hoping it stays at around 70% then but we will be checking after each trip. Do you think if it goes under 50% I'll need to get it to a garage before it doesn't start? Thank you
  5. I remember seeing the Halfords guy plug in something just under and to to right of the steering wheel, does this suggest that he has re-coded the battery? Thanks again
  6. Hi, it is indeed stop/start - just edited post to make people aware, thanks. IHalfords fitted it on my drive, is this something that should have been done when installing? Anyway I can check? Is it something i can do myself? When i first drove off it had errors to say start/stop not working but after a single drive the warning went away Thanks again
  7. Good afternoon, My Wife's Octavia STOP/START mk3 1.4 tsi suddenly wouldn't start on the drive a few of days ago. I found out you could check our the battery Percentage by pressing some buttons on the Dash. When i checked it the battery said SOC 10% and then, for the first time, an error on the dash to say 'Low Battery' I believe the car is still on original battery, we've had it 6 years and not had to replace it in that time - the Car is a 9 years old now. After having the battery replaced the car fired up perfectly and SOC battery check was showing 90 %. Went out for 20 mile drive - checked battery - now showing 80% but still wasn't too concerned. Did another 20 miles today and it's dropped to 70% - so now i am concerned there is something else wrong? Does anyone know what SOC to expect on a new battery? I am now thinking it could be the alternator dying, not the battery itself? Has anyone experience this issue? Is it normal for the SOC to drop and then stabilise or should it be reading 100% after being charged after a long journey? Thank you
  8. Thanks for all the helpful info. We plan to keep the car for another 3 years which will take it to around 90k. Then we would probably Trade in at another Main Dealer, possibly be another Skoda purchase Based on the info above, would you... 1. Pay for the £289 major service 2. Pay for the £179 Interim 3. Use an independent from now and save a little? If anyone can recommend a good Skoda garage in near to Medway, Kent, i'd be grateful. Thanks
  9. Thank you, I've been booked in for the £289 which we also had done 20k miles ago. If i just go with interim will it still be FSH as such? Guessing it would make no difference whatsoever when i come to sell? Thanks
  10. Hi All, My wife's Octavia (MK3 13 plate) is due another service, currently has Main Dealer FSH and is now on 53k and due it's major service again which i believe is every other year? Does everyone continue to follow this or am i just being ripped off? Will another Interval service be fine for another 10k miles? Or is now the time to perhaps find an independent garage to service it because the car is 6 years old? Be interested to hear from you Thank you
  11. Hi All, I am considering buying a 2012 Mk2 Octavia VRS (Petrol) - does this particular engine/model suffer from the 'engine failure' ? Is the Diesel a safer bet? Thanks all
  12. I've seen a couple of 2015 models i like, 1.2 TSI (110) could these be a problem? Or as long as i go for the Mk3 1.2 tsi then all ok? Thanks
  13. Hi All, I recently sold a classic hot hatch, a clio 172, a real minter tbh and bought myself something a little more modern, an Abarth 595 (140bhp) As much as i love the car, the sound, the looks, the character and even the performance is just fine for me i just cannot get on with the driving position. I have adjusted my seat time and time again but i still find it painful on my right foot/ankle. The seating and pedals are too high and i am now considering selling it after just a few months ownership. The reason i am considering a fabia is because i just want something easy to drive with enough poke and a comfortable driving position, i also have a massive soft spot for Skoda's , never let me down. My wife and i have had 4 Skoda's between us over the last 7 years or so and i have never had to repair any of them! Just servicing, MOT tyres etc. My wife drives an Octavia 1.4 tsi (140) and i must admit whenever i take it out i absolutely love it, a joy to drive so i really do think it maybe time for me to move away from the hot hatches and into something more comfortable although i have considered a 208 GTi as they could offer a bit of both at a very good price but seem unreliable on forums. i am considering the 1.2 tsi , torque is pretty much the same as the Abarth, i'm not one to sprint away at the lights, ever. I only cover 4k miles a year now - 10 mile round trip to work. Do you think i may find the Fabia just that bit too boring i could i fall in love knowing that is just does everything right? It does seem to offer more than enough equipment. What does the stereo sound like? How much more comfortable is the Octavia over the Fabia? I am looking to spend a max of 10k and there are mk3 octavia's around at that price with around 40k on the clock but obviously could get a great Fabia for this price. Finally, any common issues with them? (Fabia 1.2 tsi) Thanks for reading
  14. lol! Sorry, no went out for a drive, with my wife driving, and she was able to replicate straight away is what i should have said! That poor clutch!
  15. All, Sorry for SUCH a late update and you're not going to believe this but... Turns out my wife was sitting too close, so she must of been resting on the clutch slightly during some shifts!!! It did seem strange after having a service but it is because they completely changed the seating position when dropping the vehicle back off to us. Not sure if this will help for the rest of you but you never know... Thanks
