  1. step 1: open ashtray in order to provide grabing space to gear lever trim step 2: grab and pull up gear lever trip starting from ashtray and working your way around the trim, towards the handbrake lever . It snaps out. Pull the cover upwards, over the gearknob, like a sweater over your head :)) step 3: push really hard on the open/close doors button until it will decouple from the center console. Dont worry - it wont fall down there, but to be sure, you can put your hand beneath it through the newly created space due to the gear lever trim removal. you can remove the connector from it and pull it out through the gear trim hole in the center console. Assembly is in reverse. PS 1 - This is not the official way to dismantle the button from the center console. The correct way would be to take out the entire center console, dismantling side pannels, front and back ashtrays and rear vents. Too much of a hassle for me - I replaced the button in 10 minutes the way i described above. It will require some finger work :DDDD Please excuse spelling mistakes. English is not my native language.
  2. Hi. Rob I know I am reviving a 6 month old topic, but I really like the FL panel. My car is from 2005, so I must be having a 2 motor setup. I would like to mount the FL climatronic unit, but seeing how many times you revised your instructions, could you post all the information once more in a sort of "idiot's manual" kinda way? Please tell me again what are the main draw-backs related to this retrofit (what functionality do I loose? Fresh air or recirculation) Thanks!
  3. Any idea how the incompatibility would manifest? any lights on in the dash ? any errors on scanning with VCDS? 1. What exactly are the buttons on the wheel and what do they do, because I can't see clearly from the picture. 2. I have a preFL octi 2 from 2005, I intend to switch the column controller so it will support MFSW along with the existing Maxidot and autopilot. 3. I only saw an old generation MFSW that had controls for audio (volume and scanning I think). Eddie, please PM me the cost of the airbag, and most importantly, if the steering wheel will physically fit on my car. I kinda need answers for all questions above, I don't want to but some paperweight. Hope I made myself clear, because English is not my native language. Thank you both for helping out!
  4. Hi Eddie, have any ideea if this will fit a preFL Octi Mk 2? Not only physical but full working order of buttons also. Please PM the cost of the airbag. Thanks
  5. wouldnt this work on a pre FL octi mk2? . Sent from my Orange Hiro using Tapatalk
  6. thanks for the insight. Would anybody know whether an early 2005 model like mine has ONE or TWO air control flaps? I will do the mod if it has just one. But Rob is right - I wouldn't trade functionality over looks
  7. I understood that this mod is not going to work for older models of prefacelift MKII like I have (at least that's what I was told) I've been wanting to add heated seats and I have to replace the climate control panel with one that has the buttons for heated seats. It would be great if someone could tell me if I should go ahead and buy & install the facelift climate controls without loosing any functionality of the AC. Thanks!
  8. As long as we're talking about this, I've found this thread where, in fact, some managed to mount the newer climate control unit and get it to operate correctly. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/227790-fl-climatronic-retrofit/ In my case - a 2005 pre facelift mk2 - what would it take to find out if I can do the mod?
  9. there is a topic around here that describes the challanges of fitting a facelift MK2 climate control panel on a non facelift MK2. (read until the end of the thread, because in the later posts it is revealed that the mod isn't working correctly) http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/277700-step-by-step-retrofit-fl-climatronic-module-to-prefl/page-2 In the the end it;s not worth the hassle, because it won't work as intended. Another reason is that the facelift climate controls are not that intuitive, and the new MK3 came back to the 3 knobs setup (same as the non facelift MK2). But what the hell... if it were to function correctly, I would do the swap. My climate control pannel surely isn't as pretty as the MK3's
  10. Do you really have to upgrade the climate control panel to the face-lift one? I don't think they are compatible. I also have a pre face-lift MK2 and am interested in fitting a Columbus. I don't really care all that much about displaying the AC changes on the screen, but it would be great if the PDC shows up.
  11. Thanks for your insight! My car is also a 2005 Octi mk2 1.9 TDI 105hp. I think you had to change your hubs because the calipers and carriers from the donor car (scirocco) aren't compatible with Octi hubs. Lots of people I spoke with told me that it's only required to grab the carriers, calipers and and shocks from a VRS mkII (the shocks are required only if I have a 1.9 TDI 105hp like we do - the 2.0 TDI already has the 55mm shocks) I will be using only VRS parts to try to keep it as close to stock as possible. I saw the VRS parts I was talking about in the earlier post and decided not to buy them. There was too much corrosion on them. I should just raise the money I need for a new set of 55 mm shocks, carriers, calipers, disks and pads. I think it will set me back a pretty penny.
  12. I managed to find a 2006 2.0 tsfi Mk II Octavia RS at the breakers. Will be picking the whole set of calipers and carriers. But just as I have feared, my shocks aren't compatible with RS' brakes - on the 1.9 Tdi they are 50 mm in diameter, as opposed to the RS' 55 mm. because of this I will be picking the entire front and back assembly just to make sure I won't be missing any parts when I will be mounting them on my car. Either way the guy who is selling the parts doesn't want to split the suspension and the brakes - he is selling the front and back suspension and braking system together for aprox. 400 euros. Then I will just have to buy new discs, pads and braking fluid. I would have loved to buy the eibach springs and bilstein shocks but I don't have the funds for those yet. I will be using the ones that come from the RS. I wonder if the hubs would require replacement also?Any input is greatly appreciated. I may have not mentioned this before but I am not technical in any way and I am just guided in this project by what I read on this forum. I'll keep you posted on the progress -tomorrow I'll go see the parts and decide whether to buy them or not. Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. hello everybody. Been watching the forum for a couple of months, but only now got a real itch i'd like to scratch. As per title, I would like to upgrade the brakes on my fabulous car: is a Mk2 octavia Elegance from 2005, 1.9 tdi 105 bhp, engine code BJB. I bought it a year ago from my uncle, who really didn't have time to drive it. It had only 66.000 Km on it when I took it from him. Yesterday I reached 95.000 km and no problems for a car that is almost 9 years old. That's why I love it . In spring, car car is due for a disks and pads replacement on all four wheels and I would like bigger ones as I intend on doing a remap of the engine also... nothing fancy: just an increase to 140 bhp. It's not like I will be speeding down the road, but it will feel very nice when I need to overtake some lorry or something, and of course, I will feel much more secure about the brakes also. Please don't tell me I don't need better / bigger brakes. I want them because it feels safer and because they will look better on my car, now that I've purchased a set of 18' Zenith wheels. So returning to the question I would like some help with, what parts do I need for a straight swap? Right now, standard size of the disks are 280 mm on the front, don't remember for the back. I am expecting a budget of about 400 pounds / euros for all parts except labour. I have a friend that is a mechanic at the largest Skoda dealership in my country and he'll help me out. If somebody would post part codes together with their proposals that would be great, or some links. From what some people are telling me, I would also be needing new bigger shock absorbers and springs, like the ones found on the 2.0 version or the Vrs one. Thank you so much for your input!!! 14. Hey there Eddy, I have a MK2 Octavia 1.9 TDI. Could your steering wheel be fitted on my car? Also, will you consider shipping it to EU? I'm from Romania. How about the airbag? do you still have it? I would like to purchase a complete set (steering + airbag). Also, could you let me know what other parts I might need for the retrofit to be 100% functional? My steering wheel looks like the one in this picture: http://www.4tuning.ro/images/vand-volan-skoda-octavia/vand-volan-skoda-octavia-63cb6fc094081df26-0-0-0-0-0.jpg Thanks in advance.
