  1. There's been a guy running a mk1 vrs estate in West Kent for years- I imagine perhaps from new! Go past him a lot in the mornings, must be doing a school run or something. One day I'm sure he will be first in the rank when I get off a late night train - plan to have a good chat on the trip home!
  2. I've recently fitted the new Phillips ultra vision 130+ , they are very good and with projector lights they are probably as good as halogen get- but I know from experience that they won't last, hopefully will get through winter though. I'm also really interested in the HIDs and understand non-canbus is the way to go and london colour with 4300k bulbs - but how do i go about getting it coded? As also I have read that coding before the fitting is important. Sorry if im being silly.
  3. I have recently acquired a 07 l&k estate and blooming love it. Except the cruise control doesn't work - I followed the amazing guide and took up a lot of dirt from the connections. (By the way I am the least practical person ever, so If I could do it anyone can). Except the cruise still doesn't work. I'm going to take it back to the dealer I bought it from to sort but it's hassle - I was just wondering whether I may have fixed it but that it needs a fault code reset, I could get this done locally near work rather than make the trip to the dealer a way a way. Any thoughts or a lost hope? Thanks guys! Ps its 2.0tdi dsg, all bulbs work and no errors on the dash.
  4. PM sent if still available - I've been searching the web for one of these.
  5. I've been using v power almost exclusively for the last 6 months, with the odd tank of BP Ultimate. I don't use it for extra performance but rather future reliability. I figure for a few quid extra might as well do what I can for the engine. I'm no expert in fuel but I really don't think the different batches are allowed to be so different from each other that v power could cause damage or poor running. Car seems to like it but it's not turned the 1.9 diesel lump into a v8, and neither should it,
  6. Had these fitted yesterday. Went for 87 but it's your choice, I just heard they can be a bit squishy at 83 on the sidewall. Seem good so far but only done 100 miles so reserving judgement.
  7. I actually decided on what engine I wanted first, then found the body to match it! Was looking for excellent economy with a balance of power and torque for motorways. Bullet proof reliability (haha within reason of course). The fabia is the smallest car I've had after owning big volvos and mondeos etc before but I love it's practicality, can be parked anywhere. Big diesel in small car and with character, they don't produce anything similar nowadays, just highly stressed petrol turbos that are fun but I think are vulnerable over the long term.
  8. Recently had my original alloys refurbished, partly out of necessity- corrosion was weakening the join on a couple of them leading to leaks (previous owner must have done a DIY job on them). Went for a light anthracite as I wanted something different to standard silver but didn't want to completely lose them as I have a black magic vrs. Had them done at Lepsons in Gillingham, went there after many locals said they were the only place to do a proper job in the area, whilst I can't say if that's true or not I am exceptionally pleased with the product and service. Also fitted some rainsport 3's all round today, given the level of interest in them I'll do a little review in a few thousand miles.
  9. Not sure where you are but I can definitely recommend Lepsons in Medway. Really excellent quality of product and service. I'm going to do a little before and after post when I get round to it actually. http://www.lepsons.com
  10. embarrassed I didn't know about the site before, slightly double embarrassed that I'm still not quite sure - the poke and inset looks quite significant to me, is that a problem you think? Thanks Nick Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 14.1mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 24.1mm less than before. Diameter 590.9mm 584.5mm Circumference 1856.4mm 1836.3mm Poke 44.6mm 20.5mm Inset 120.6mm 106.5mm Speedo error 0% 1.09% Reading at 30mph 30mph 30.33mph Reading at 60mph 60mph 60.66mph Ride height gain 0mm -3.2mm Arch gap loss 0mm -3.2mm
  11. Guys, I've been going a bit mad, I'm not good with wheel and tyre size conversions etc. Anyway I'm going to be doing a fair mileage this winter including some trips to Europe across France and Germany so I'm going to invest in some winter tyres, my alloys could do with a refurb so I figured if I went for some steel wheels I'd be able to get my allows done over winter and potentially save a little on the cost of the tyre if I went smaller. The steel wheel I've been quoted for is as follows: 6 x 15 5 x 100.00 x 57.00 ET: 43.00 5-hole steel wheel (8000) Proposing to fit the following tyre: Continental WinterContact TS 850 185/55 R15 86H BSW Will the wheel fit ok and drive ok handling wise? I can just about get my head around tyres but the whole wheel thing, offsets etc has me very confused and I need to get these ordered asap really. By my calculations which could be totally wrong I put the overall diameter change at 6mm which I'm guessing is ok as far as the speedo etc goes? When in doubt turn to the knowledge of Briskskodians! Thanks for your advice in advance! Nick
  12. Also this might be a very silly question but is there meant to be a filter on the external part( see second photo) Cheers
  13. Having purchased my mk1 vrs in May this is my first winter with the fabia, so decided to take advantage of an offer at eurocarparts and bought a full set of upgraded osram bulbs (low full and side). Fitted then this morning. Turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it might. Drivers side easy. Removing the light cover on the passenger side made that just as easy! But anyway whilst there I noticed that the air intake pipe had detached from the intake in the grill. Immediately put it back on but I have no idea how this would have done it itself and am wondering if it might have been like that since I bought it (first service next week funnily enough). I haven't spent much time under the bonnet, over the summer I hard wired a new ignition switched 12v supply in the drivers glovebox, interior LEDs and did the brakes. Has anyone experienced this before or know why it would be advantageous to detach the intake pipe? Cheers Nick
  14. Hello all! Like most people probably, I've been flicking through the forum for a little while without posting anything, the time has come to say hello! I decided to get something a little smaller and more economical than my old petrol Mondeo a few months ago and settled on a mk1 Fabia VRS. I've had diesel before previously owning a Volvo S80 D5. Mileage was 56k I think when I bought her, now about 59k. Very clean, only a few minor paint blemishes that can be expected, interior nearly perfect except for a torn (but repaired) gash in the drivers seat. No mods at all - I'm not that practical of a person so it may stay that way!? Dual Mass Flywheel starting to make a little noise when idling out of gear, probably got around 2k miles left, annoying but a consumable these days it seems. Oil and filters, new pads and discs all round and a brake bleed is all I've done. The previous owner has had the wheels refurbed to a low standard, they look ok but it's going to eat the edge of the rims and give me a puncture at some point, seen it before. So might use as a good excuse for new alloys, I quite like the look of BBS or may stick with the OEM as the rest of it is so standard. Nick Oh yeah I'm based in Kent but travel all over the county for my job so may see you on the road!
