  1. The 'small door' and screen waser bottle comments were very tongue in cheek!! I'll repeat ....the car is brilliant !!! We considered a Yeti, cos my wife loves them..... but the Roomster does what we want, so we are very happy with it, and as I've said looks a bit like a Yeti with teh roof bars... All the Best Rob
  2. Hi Folks, My Roomster (1.2 TSI 105) has just clocked up 1000 miles, after a month of ownership, so I thought I'd better post my list of faults and complaints.... NONE !! If this is a typical example of Skoda build quality, I wouldn't drive anything else ever again. It's solid - no squeaks or rattles, smooth, comfortable, quiet and surprisingly quick. It's even pretty economical...even though my previous car was a diesel!! I've averaged over 40 mpg so far, although I'm only just starting to use the performance a bit more. The first time I 'used it in anger', I was overtaking a waggon on the A686. In the past it was down a grear and hammer the car past.....in the Roomster I left it in 5th....in no time I was past the waggon and accelerating past 80 mph!! I find the engine is so torquey that you don't need to hammer it through the gears.... but if you do it really lifts!! My only 'niggle' was the small front doors (compared to the 2 door cars I've had in the past), but this is just use, and they certainly haven't caused any problems. I also had to top up the screen wash (!)...... oil was OK. Practicality is what it's all about...and the interior space is huge.... I've even had a few people ask if it's a Yeti.......... I wish someone would take the p*ss with a few old Skoda jokes.....I'd enjoy putting them right! Finaly all I can say is it's BRILLIANT !!!! Rob, Northumberland
  3. I like the bigger wheels supplied with the scout..... They fill out the wheel arches and looks nicer than the standard alloys that I've got on mine..... not that I'm complaining...I'm very happy with my Roomster....enjoy yours!! Rob
  4. Yup..this happened to me. I ended up checking the handbook, cos I couldn't fathom out what I'd done.... I think if you hold the "unlock" button on the remote for more than a second or two it partially opens all windows (about 5 inches down). Holding the "lock" button, locks the car and raises the windows. Luckilly it wasn't raining when this happened to me!! Rob
  5. "Hadn't exceeded 2000 rpm"...... I mean I'm changing up at 'about' 2000 rpm !! I can't hand on heart say I haven't exceeded my self imposed rev limit!! However now it's got over 200 miles on it, I'll gradually speed things up. I admit the handbook isn't as strict as that though..... it says don't use more than 3/4 of max in each gear - i.e. 4,500 rpm, and avoid full throttle for the first 1000Km. As i said earlier I'm paying for it so I'll run it in my way...can't see it doing any harm...other than to strereotype my self as a "Grey haired old Skoda owner"!!! I must admit I've had many discussions about 'running in' new cars. A friend of mine (who was a Ford salesman ages ago) said that you shouldn't bother running in as such cos engines were 'bench run in', and just hammer hell out of the car. This used to make me cringe....but he said any customers who bought demonstrators that he 'ran in' were very happy with them. Anyway I was out today.....and according to the computer averaged 46 mpg..... pretty good for a 'tight' engine. Which reminds me of an old story..... A bloke has a brand new E Type Jag..... on the back is a sticker...."Running in please pass". A few weeks later the sticker is looking very tatty, and next to it is a brand new sticker:- "Run In....now try"! TTFN Rob South Northumberland
  6. Hi Again, and thanks for the comments..... It's typical....just got the car, and I've come down with a heavy cold...so I can't go out on test. I'm reading the manual at the moment. I'm used to basic cars, without some of the gadgets that are on the Roomster. I've never even had a car with Air Con before! It's interesting that the manual doesn't seem to have changed since earlier models. Mine doesn't have a temp or conventional fuel guage on the tacho and speedo....as in the manual. I don't think it's a big deal though. I was interested to note the gearing of the Roomster. My old Fiesta diesel was fairly highly geared, to make use of the diesel torque, and limited rev range. I was suprised to see the Roomster has even higher gearing. At 2000rpm the Fiesta was doing 52-53 mph, the Roomster is doing 55-56. It certainly says something about modern petrol engine technologies, when the 1.2 TSI 86 produces the same torque as the 1.4 Ford diesel at 160Nm. The TSI 105 is even better at 175 Nm I'm going up into the Scottish Borders next week, so that'll be a better test..... will report back! Rob
  7. At long last I collected my Roomster today.... I traded in a basic 1.4tdci Fiesta "two door", so my initial impressions are probably due to comparison with the Fiesta! My Roomster is a 1.2 TSI 105, SE Trim Firstly it's VERY quiet...so much so that it was ticking over and I could only tell it was running cos the revcounter was registering! Build quality looks great....very well put together. I found the front doors quite small....or rather short...but then again I've had two door cars for years. No problems getting in or out...... it's just there doesn't seem much door. The front windows are also quite small.... cooly resting my elbow against the windows won't work very well cos the door sides are fairly high. I've only done 40 miles toaday, and whatever anyone else may say...I'm paying for it, so I'm running it in! I've never used more than 2000 revs so far, but it seems to get up and go quite well... even when driving it very carefully. The brakes are also amazing! It looks great with the alloy wheels, black roof rack and Cappachino paint job. I have one (probably daft) question for you other owners....What's that strange bit of transparent plastic for, to the bottom right of the windscreen? At first I thought it was something to do with installing the windscreen and had been left in place by mistake..., but on calling at my dealers tonight (they were closed) I noticed all new Roomsters have it. I assume it's for holding a map, parking ticket, or whatever?? Will update this when I've done some more miles Rob, Seghill, Northumberland
  8. Yes it's an SE. Will post my impressions in teh next few weeks...
  9. Hi Folks, It arrived at Port of Tyne on Wednesday last week, the dealer is getting it on Wednesday this week (4th Dec - "The Transporters are busy on the run up to Christmas") and I'm picking it up on Thursday morning. So it'll be a couple of days short of 17 weeks.... The deal...i.e. part ex and so on was agreed in early August. I did go back in early Septemeber asking if it could be upped from the 86 PS (my original order) to the 105....as long as it didn't delay delivery!! The dealer just changed the spec on the computer...so maybe that's caused the delay, although he said it wouldn't. Anyway...we are witout a car for 4 days only, so it's not the end of the world..... NB I didn't know or expect this but Skoda gave me a weeks free insurance - primarily to speed up getting the vehicle taxed....
  10. I ordered my Romster on August 3rd....that was 15 weeks ago Saturday gone. On ordering I was told 12 weeks. The car was built on 31st October. I was told a week ago that it was "In Emden awaiting shipping"... Since then there have been at least 5 ships from Emden arriving at Port of Tyne (6 miles from my dealer)...and I STILL haven't got it... Getting impatient now cos the MOT is up on my Fiesta on the 30th November Rob (South Northumberland) PS It'll be a 1.2 TSI 105......
  11. Hi, I'm Rob from South East Northumberland. Have been running a Fiesta 1.4Tdci for the last 7 1/2 years. Loved the mid range torque and general drivability, but no so impressed with the injector problems I had a year and a half ago! I've decided to "go petrol", fancied an "MPV", and was initially looking at the Citroen Berlingo. Then I looked at Skodas.... Was very impressed with Skoda quality in general, and the Roomster in particular. I ordered a 1.2 TSI 105 with SE trim in early August. It was finaly built on 31st October, and at this time is sitting in Emden awaiting shipment to Tyne Dock. I'm expecting 'collection' in about a week and a half...that'll be over 15 weeks I've waited...was originally told it would be 12.... Hope it's been worth it! TTFN Rob
