  1. Chemical leak test done no colour change not sure this is an entirely reliable test but has shown positive on a land rover when I tested it once Replaced the cooolant cap was still losing coolant, I got another one from garage that apparently is off an octavia black in colour and now not losing any coolant? Seems v strange Although I occasionally get a slight amount of white smoke on startup,
  2. Real question is quality control which seems to be less and less these days I've even considered a focus but sitting inside one felt like I was in the 90s horrible. New corolla looks good as does the mazda 3 with skyactiv, the only two that are sticking with naturally aspirated which may be good for long term reliability The astra sri and elite nav are relatively cheap for a 2yr old car, but you're right there just be reason behind this. The civic 1. 5 t suffered from oil dilution issues hence I'm considering the 1.0vtec turbo cvt but need more info on ownership with this one I sat in the new fabia too small, octavia don't like its looks
  3. Just as I suspected I'm gonna try the chemical test tube test to see if the liquid turns from. Blue to brown In any case at this stage if it's blown I will most likely drive until it can't go no more Maybe get it on the track for one last ride
  4. Yea mine Is same next morning some pressure in the expansion tank. I actually got a set of pd150 bolts sure I seen a guide around here on how to, but if gasket is knackered don't see what bolts will do then again I understand it's worth a try I guess
  5. I only notice mine when the car is being driven hard like on morotoways or the car is in high boost, like you I have virtually no loss around town
  6. Cheers for reply, how did you find the astra 1.4t, did you have it long, reliability issues?
  7. Hi mate I'm having the same issue with coolant loss I replaced the water pump with the one with metal impellers, new rad and new thermostat at around 122k miles now at about 158k I stripped the whole undertray no visible leaks from anywhere not from rad, heater matrix, bulk head or anywhere, couple of times when it hits motorway journeys it Drinks coolant to well below min, locally it doesnt hardly use any. On boost it hardly seems to eat coolant at all Possibly head lift? I ordered a chemical leak tester let you kno how I get on as this phantom issue has peaked my interest... Let you kno how I get on. But at this milage and me travelling to London daily and the introduction of Ulez soon to emcapass the whole M25, I'll stick to top ups rather than a head build if required!
  8. Having owned my fabia vrs diesel for 5years I'm feeling the need to move on, however the money I'd get for it now with the milage it's on, I'm strongly considering keeping it as well, I can't get enough of the torque and fuel economy Two cars which have sparked my inteest Honda Sr 1.0 vtec cvt Reason: long term reliability, the looks would have to grow on me Vauxhall astra 1.4t auto elite nav Reason: cheap, wealth of equipment list, I also miss a complete leather interior Does anyone have any experiences of the above,,? Both are petrol variants Thanks
  9. Hi guys, the top bolt which releases the oil filter housing appears to have rounded slightly and the 32mm socket is now slipping! Any ideas how I can get this off? The car is now almost at 160k so this will be the final oil change before it gets shifted on Any help or advice would be much appreciated Thanks
  10. Does anyone know where I can pick up a remanufactured BLT turbo without having to exchange the current one on the car? I kno there was a chap on the forums who sold turbos but I cannot remember his name Any help would be much appreciated
  11. Sweet mate il get some silicone spray does anyone have a picture of where to spray the door channels please
  12. Anyone got any ideas why it's repeatedly failed ? Is it worth replacing the electric window motor? Could this be the culprit.... or is it the ones I'm buying are inferior quality ??
  13. As per title the window regulator on the passenger side has failed for the second time!! The regulator has only been in place for few months .... Has anyone experienced this? Where am I going wrong can anyone please help The door took rivets I replaced these DIY with bolts and adapters , but I'm now on the verge of buying a new regulator, the previous two are eBay jobbies Thanks
  14. Hi peeps As per title im having trouble removing my front wipers! They seem to be on pretty solid. I have attached two pics im not sure how they can unclip can anyone please help I don't wanna break something by accident. They are aero wipers and will be replaced by the same Also.... I am looking to change to fuel filter on the car. Is there any guide on this? If not how would you rate the difficulty and is it a straight forward job? I was shopping around for oil changes, fuel filter change etc... basically service parts labour and even though im providing parts the quotes seemed far to steep, so thought id invest in some tools and give it a go of course im relying on you guys and your expert knowledge Any help much appreciated
  15. Mate I'd recommend Mtec bulbs (eBay) brilliant white light direct replacement no error codes and they last ages mine been in two years and still going
