    Awful Sound

Thanks for the replies. I had a good long session trying to identify the issue and I traced it to a small stone. It was not trapped between the shield and disc but was actually stuck in one of the vents of the disc, so every time the disc rotated the stone would catch the caliper.

  3. These are brand new pads currently on the car. I put these in 3 days ago to see if having new pads would stop the awful sound but alas it did not. Everything looked fine when I swapped the pads, the spring clips are all seated. With only myself doing this I don't have help. Also trying to rotate the wheel assembly by hand is quiet hard so need to get the wheel to slowly rotate by having it in 1st gear
  4. Hi, Due to a brake pad issue I would like to jack the car up and put it into 1st gear and have the front wheel rotate slowly under tick over power so I can see where it is catching. Previously on my older 2 wheel drive cars this was easy to just jack the front or rear of the car (with axle stands) and then put the car into gear. However, with the 4 wheel drive on the yeti is this actually possible or if I jack the front up onto axle stands will the rear wheels rotate meaning I shall have to put axle stands under the rear of the yeti as well. The reason for wanting to do this is because when the wheel is being driven, occasional the front nearside wheel (piston side) brake pad is touching the outer rim of the brake disc. It will touch and then stay in this noisy position for around 15 seconds then it stops making the noise and is completely silent (ie normal) until the next time it happens x miles or minutes later Thanks.

A little update. After buying a new set of pads I then replaced both front sets. However the intermittent touching/grinding is still happening and sounds awful still. So I am going to have to get it back up and wheel off to try and see what is catching or why it's doing it intermittently. It's obviously touching the the outer edge of the disc. I need a bit more advice but I shall open another thread as it's about the 4 wheel drive.
  6. On my camera installation I put the camera at various locations on the widscreen to see how easy and what the view is like and also ease of access to control the camera etc. With my high seating position I find the main mirror block some of my view out of the windscreen and placing a camera around the mirror location just blocked a bit more of the windscreen view. I found that placing it at the bottom of the screen just in front of the dashboard box on top of the dash. It has a great view, the bonnet does not appear in the image, it's easy to get to (to get the SD card out) and also the wiring just pops out from the front of the box easily. Also with the camera just above the air vents it helps keep the camera cooler.
  7. Hi, I am about to jack up my yeti to change the front pads. I want to jack up the front of the yeti (ie both front wheel off the ground). Previously on other cars it was easy to put the trolley jack under the sump or part of the frame but under the yeti is all this plastic coverings and I don't know where to put it. Is there a suitable jacking point on the front? Thanks

    Awful Sound

I have had the front nearside wheel off and had a look and could not see any stone or anything else. Then I tried to rotate the wheel and I could hear the pad grinding on the disc. There is plenty of pad still there, so I gave a it all a tap with a hammer to see if it would reseat itself but the noise was then really loud when rotating the wheel. So I believe the pad must be touching the edge of the disc. So tomorrow when the shops reopen I shall pop out and get a new set of pads and fit them. thanks all for taking the time to help me.

It is a Manual gearbox. I don't think it is the gearbox making the sound as I have hear the sound when rolling down a hill in neutral.

    Awful Sound

Hi All, OK, so 2 days ago I started to hear an sound coming from under the car. I got out expecting to see something stuck but could not see anything. So I continued the journey home with this sound happening interminantly. The next day I start up the car and the Exhaust Emission light comes on. So turned off and rang the main dealer for an appointment. So today I get the call to say all fixed. I get the bus out to the dealer. They tell me the Exhaust Emission light was indicating a fault with the throttle body, so they stripped it down and replaced the seals and clean the crud etc. They tell me they could not hear any sounds during the test diagnostic drive and also after the throttle fix test drive. So I just hoped it was all linked. I get in the car and pulled off the forecourt and immediately there is the sound but was a bit louder. I thought if it's still there then how come the mechanic did not hear it during 2 test drives. Never mind, it was to late to go back to the dealer so I found some quiet roads and just did various things to see if I could diagnose the issue my self. So to describe the sound, think of a metal bucket. Now with one hand hold a screwdriver and run it round the inside of the bucket slowly, about 1 revolution per second. the odd occasion it sounds like you have dropped the screwdriver into the bucket. It is intermittent and last for approx 2 to 3 seconds on average. I have included a short mp3 of the sound. The sound is coming from the front left somewhere. Sometimes it is louder, other time not as loud. It happens on the straight between 20-50mph or when going round a corner at approx 20mph. It sounds like something is rotating but not at the speed of revolutions of the road wheel. It's not a grumbling sound ie wheel bearings etc It does not make a noise when stationery or when turning the steering wheel (ie power steering pump) It does not make a noise if I rocket the yeti or push down on each corner. What equipment is on the front left that rotates? squeak.mp3
  11. Hi, on my SE the rear view mirror is just underneath the black mesh thing at the top of the windscreen (See photo) Now I have just had a crack appear on my windscreen due to stone damage, so looking to replace the windscreen but I think the position of the mirror is higher up on the elegance models (in the black mesh) as it's part of the rain sensor. Is this true as I would really like to have the mirror higher up as I have the drivers seat at it's highest position and this sometime the mirror blocks my view of the left side of the road as the mirror is at my eye level.
  12. Hi, For a while I have had an intermittent lighting fault on one of my rear number plate lights. Every time I start the car it's a 50/50 chance the bulb will not light up and indicated on the dashboard screen as a fault, the other time it works fine. I have swapped the bulb but this does not make a difference. I have cleaned the contacts of the fitting but they are in VGC but this does not make a difference. I am at a loss to what the issue may be but loathed to take it to the main dealer and fork out a few hundred pounds, at least till I have tried myself to fix. Could it be a fault on the Canbus?
  13. Hi, Just a quick bit of advice. I am intermittently getting a dashboard light indicator that the number plate bulb has gone. Looking at the number plate I can see it's the nearside bulb. However giving it a thump turn it back one until the it intermittently goes off again and needing a thump. So I want to get it out and check it for damp/connections etc. I have tried many ways to remove the fitting but can not see how with out wanting to insert a screw driver to lever the unit out. What is the correct way. The yeti is a 2014 Facelift
  14. The reading was taken first thing this morning (just before going off to the Supermarket to do the weekly shop), then I started the yeti and left it running and took the next voltage ready 2 mins later once everything had settled down.
