  1. As my car was in the body shop getting some parking scratches removed, I was given a 2022 Fabia Se Comfort 80hp. I was really impressed with the car with the Mk IV version of the Fabia good standard of equipment and refinement. I was surprised that the 80hp version of the Fabia wasn’t turbo charged. The engine revved freely and above 3k rpm it gave ok performance. Comparing the engine to a 2009 Renault Clio with a 74hp 1.2 (which I have to drive sometimes) the refinement and usable performance of the Fabia is leagues ahead even on paper they should perform the same. The Clio’s performance is miserable especially on motorways and trying to acceleration to change lane but the Fabia offered enough performance and comfort for higher speed motorway driving. Looking at the June 2023 UK Brochure it has a list price of £18600 with Solid Colour Energy Blue which is the entry level Fabia. Which does seem high price for a Fabia but It’s comparable to other new car prices and most people buy based on monthly repayments rather than list prices. Having the loan car for a week allowed me to compare it with a 2014 5J Fabia. The newer Fabia it is a big upgrade from of specification and styling. Not surprised as the 5J was sold from 2007 and is based on a VW platform from 1999. Visually the Mk IV is noticeably lower than the Mk2 but the interior head room isn’t compromised by this. The engine of the newer Fabia does look small in the engine bay The 1.4 in the older Fabia really fills the engine bay in comparison Newer Fabia's boot seems to be as practical as the older model. I found the plastic shopping holder found in the old model useful. Interior shows how modern the Fabia has gotten compared with the Mk2 Fabia I do like the sports seats in the older Fabia which are comfortable and supportive but the interior really showing it's age. After a week of driving around in the new Fabia I did miss it when picking my car. It wasn't perfect with the touch screen radio being a distraction when trying to change a station to a non-preset one. The lane keep assist got confused with roundabouts so really I should have left that off but wanted to try it for the week to see if it was useful. I just like the fact it was a nice comfortable car that I could live with day to day. Currently it looks like this might be the last Fabia model with costly emissions requirements and electrification making the economics of producing small cars like this hard to justify. It will be a shame if this is the last model but it is a good send off.
  2. No leaks since the work was done 6 years ago and the DSG has been working fine. The car still only has 24k miles since new so it doesn't get used that much.
  3. I’ve driven 450miles since the cruise control fitted. I was surprised it works slightly differently to the one in my A3 so here are my observations on using it:- There is no indication what the speed limit is on the dashboard so when re-engaging cruise control I needed to check what speed that are is doing and then set it manually. The speed limiter only uses the engine breaking to keep to the speed when going down a hill or decreasing the speed to a lower one which can result in the car going over the set speed. On the A3 it will use the breaks are applied to decrease the speed so the car won't go over the set speed. Accelerating using the cruise control switches usually downshifts to a lower gear. It results in the acceleration being a bit quicker than I would like. Having the cruise control on the same stalk as the indicator is a bit fiddley and it is easy to accidently flash or indicate when changing the cruise control settings. I prefer the cruise control on dedicated stalk.
  4. Got the cruise control fitted today after 3 weeks waiting for the part to be delivered. It cost £456 in total and took the entire day to fit it. I haven't tried it yet as my mother drove it. Hopefully it is easy to use unlike the Fabia 3 courtesy car I had a few weeks ago which had a speed limiter which I could not get on with instead of cruise control.
  5. Managed to order it from the dealer. The reason why it isn't being returned on the parts system was due to it only linked to fitting a Roomster and none of the other Fabia models.
  6. Thanks for the clarifying the part numbers. I will give them a call and hopefully telling the part number rather than searching via registration number will allow them to order the part I need.
  7. Looking on eBay and I found a listing for a Fabia Cruise Control with a part number 5J2035623A. The following picture from the eBay listing states that it is for models built from 13/2010 to 22/2012 which is what the dealer told me with no alternative parts listed for post 2012 cars. I found this old post where it says 5J2054690A is suitable for models >22/2012. Why isn't the dealer not able to say that this part is suitable from their system?
  8. I'm trying to order Cruise Control from the dealer for a 2014 DSG Fabia with MFA (Maxi-dot trip computer). But on their parts system its only lists models up to 2012 with a MFA as being able to be ordered. Is there a reason why this part is unable to be ordered through the official Skoda parts system?
  9. The Fabia is standard but that's my mother's car. My car is running a Revo Stage 2 Remap, Downpipe, Air intake and intercooler.
  10. I had thinking about getting a remap for the Fabia. While driving it the other day and thinking how acceleration felt so really smooth and it feels fairly nippy enough so I don't know how well it would drive after a remap with higher boost. I've always gone for Revo on my cars as I really like my local dealer so can't comment on how Revo compares with other maps. I'm toying with the idea of going stage 3 on my car but I will have to find another supplier as Revo doesn't offer a stage 3 tune.
  11. Revo has a blog post on what to look out for before mapping of the 1.4 Twincharger engine. They also recommend running NGK BKR7EIX spark plugs on stage 1 or stage 2 stage of tunes. https://www.onlyrevo.com/blog/1-4-tsi-twincharger-known-engine-issues-to-be-aware-of/ Here is the copy of the text from the website:- During development at Revo and through our Global Development Programme, we have come across some issues. These issues have been seen on both the newer generation Euro5 1.4TSI Twincharger engines found in vehicles across the Volkswagen Audi Group. A number of these issues have been addressed by the manufacturer directly. However, it’s not advised that Revo software is installed onto your ECU if your vehicle shows any of issue listed. All issues need to be diagnosed and rectified by a Revo Authorised dealer. What to look out for Misfiring when the vehicle is cold or warming up. A factory update has been issued for this fault. Misfiring due to faulty coil packs. Certain batches of coil packs were recognised as faulty and these would be replaced under warranty by the manufacturer. Misfiring due to faulty plugs. Advised that plugs are replaced. Misfiring due to faulty injectors. There was an injector part number change in early 2010, these newer injectors have a more efficient spray pattern to prevent excessive depositing on the piston crown. Injectors were also changed to solve misfire issue along with a factory software update. Excessive Oil Consumption. Although not officially recognised as an issue, there has been a large number of engines replaced due to excessive oil consumption issues. In some cases, nearly new vehicles have had new piston rings installed by the main dealer. Water Pump Failures Crankshaft bearing play which can lead to bore wear and piston/piston ring damage Extra Information There have been numerous cases where completely standard vehicles have suffered from misfires and unburnt fuel in the cylinder has caused bore-wash leading to piston/piston ring damage. This is not a full extensive list of ‘all’ problems related to this engine, just a list of potential issues. Most vehicles have had issues rectified by the main dealer. The biggest concern is excessive oil consumption as it can indicate underlying issues that could cause much more damage at a future date. Not all vehicles suffer from these issues however it’s very important to be aware of the issues prior to upgrading the vehicle so you can look out for symptoms of any future potential problems. Any issue seen on a standard vehicle will be accentuated if the vehicle is run at a higher level of performance.
  12. The 1.5TSI looks like the same configuration at this in the Golf with 150ps and 250NM. In the Golf the CO2 emissions is 130 g/km for TSI Manual and eTSI DSG configurations. While Autocar currently quoting the Fabia's 1.5TSI emissions as being 128-142g/km. This does seem the best engine for the Fabia which would offer comfortable motorway cruising and being nippy around town.

  15. It's my mother's so that's the reason why the mileage is so low. If it was mine I would drive it a lot more. When I get the chance I really do enjoy driving it and blow the the cobwebs away. 😁
