  1. I'm going to have a go at removing a mark one fabia 1.2 petrol cylinder head. My question may sound daft, and I'm asking because I've not got a repair manual yet, but I'll be buying that. Are there any specialist tools needed to remove a cylinder head. I'm not a novice at mechanical stuff but it has been some time since I've tinkered with cars (My bag is old Lambrettas). I know I'll need a valve spring compressor, I've got a decent set of tools and torque wrench etc, but is there anything I'll need that's non standard ?
  2. I wont be worth a lot being a 2005 car. My concern is this engine already been repaired previously with a crack in the cylinder head, its also had a new EMS. Neither repair was cheap, I'm dubious of having another repair and it goes again. I wouldn't mind but 40000 miles being driven my the wife who could be a hearse driver she's that slow !
  3. Hi Everyone I've already posted details on our PROBLEMATIC 2005 Fabia 1 Petrol 12 car with a misfiring number one cylinder. Its been into a local garage who's diagnostic machine says the same as the RAC Fault finding 'Misfiring number one cylinder' The garage has done a pressure test on the cylinder and it reads 62 compared to I think they said 112 on the other two cylinders. They think it could be a burnt valve on number one, but they cant be sure until the head is stripped down. Top and bottom is they are saying cost is between 350 upto £600 dependent on what they find. We cant afford a new car just yet, would I be better sourcing an engine from a accident damaged car, and If I put it in myself, would I have any problems marrying the engine to the existing EMS ? (Coding etc) The car has only done 40k from new. Any advice would be appreciated.
  4. Hi Lads I put Three new plugs in after the first time it happened, it also had the new coil from the RAC on Cylinder one at that point.
  5. HI Everyone Is there anyone out there who can advise of any garage in the greater Manchester area that doesn't rip you off ? Our 2005 Petrol 1.2 Fabia has had a problem over the last two weeks where the engine management light comes on and the car sputters to a halt (Its a three cylinder engine). The RAC diagnosed the fault P0301 (Cylinder number one misfire) They replaced the coil with a new one and all was well for a few days. Last weekend the same problem occurred, the RAC came out again and got the car going again saying the fault is not showing up as a faulty coil. The car ran Ok for a few days until tonight, when the energy management light came on again and the car spluttered to a halt. RAC came out again and the fault is showing as P0301 Cylinder number one misfire. They have swapped the new coil over from cylinder one to cylinder two, the car is running again and the RAC advise to get it to a garage to see if they can find out what the problem is. They swapped the new coil from cylinder one to cylinder two so that if that car breaks down again, it should highlight if the new coil is faulty (which they doubt, but would replace under warranty) or narrow the problem down to the ECU or a faulty injector on number one cylinder. Six million dollar question, since we have had the ECU changed about two years ago, at great cost, we don't want to be rippled off this time. If its the ECU what's the going rate for replacement (last time we ended up paying £1200 but the garage said there was a problem with the cylinder head as well) If its the injector on Cylinder one, what's the typical cost of repair Does anyone know a decent (Honest) garage in Manchester where we can go with a bit of confidence that we'll get a 'straight' opinion. Thanks Tony
  6. HI Everyone Can anyone shed any light on the Fault code 18020, and if we know what it is, can it be fixed without great expense. I have mentioned previously that our 2005 three cylinder petrol Fabia classic 1.2 air con isn't working, and I think its since a new Engine management gizmo was replaced, but to be honest I'm not 100% sure. I'm not sure if this fault code has anything to do with the problem. Cheers Tony
  7. Mine is a three cylinder. It'll be done next bank holiday.
  8. Hi Lee Thanks for that, I'll have a go at sealing the door panels. Cheers Tony
  9. Hi Everyone The reason I joined the forum is we have owned the 1.2 petrol Fabia Classic from new, and its still only done just over 40,000 miles. But to be honest, the car has been a bit of a 'mare' since buying it. We didn't have the car serviced from new at a Skoda dealers since we used local garages, however with money being tight I now try to do as much as I can myself. Problems fixed at the local garage, replaced ECU, crack in the Cylinder head, one coil pack replaced. We now have condensation inside the car, Air Con not working at all we think since since a new ECU. unit, and the electric windows sometimes refuse to work, so its not been the best. Getting back to the condensation, its that bad in the winter, we gave three packs of crystals that absorb moisture on the rear parcel shelf. The rear carpets are damp, will it be the rubber door seals, and are they easy to replace ? Cheers Tony
  10. Ok lads Engine mount it is then. Once I've solved that my next question will be how the eck do you stop the condensation inside the car in the winter ! Thanks for the help.
  11. Hi Robbie Its not getting at the bolt that I'm having a problem with, I ended up tightening the bolt back up because I couldn't remove it because it hits the sump before its out. Or is it a case of undoing it as far as you can and then moving the wishbone up and down ? I didn't try that because I was dubious that I might of ended up stuck and the car being un movable. Unless I'm being thick !
  12. I never thought of that, I'll take a look, thanks for the prompt reply, I appreciate it. Cheers Tony
  13. Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum so please bear with me if my questions seem a little stupid. I have tried to replace the front console bushes on my 2005 Fabia. The near side console and wishbone bush replacement went to plan after following a fitting advice post from some time ago. The drivers side however has got me beaten at the minute, I cant get the 18mm bolt out of the wishbone since it hits the sump, now I know this is a daft question, but do you have to remove the sump to get it out ? If so what tool do I need to undo the sump bolts ? Any advice would be appreciated.
  14. Hi Everyone, I've only just joined the forum having tried to do some work on a Skoda and need some advice. I just wanted to say, I have visited the site previously to look for a few tips, and have to say it is well constructed and really neat. Cheers Tony
