  1. 2.0 diesel estate towing an Eriba Triton 430 sees about 36mpg, if I try and maintain the legal max speed limit. If I sit behind lorries and drive very sedately, I get over 40mpg with the same setup.
  2. Although it's a passive monitoring system, it's come to my aid several times with screws, nails etc in my tyres. Triggers at about a 10% difference in psi which prompts you to take a look at the offending tyre early on.
  3. My car recently overheated whilst driving slowly in congested traffic. I was towing at the time and the car was fully loaded, a/c on etc, so I put it down to a one off. Normality was resumed when I got moving i.e., airflow through the radiator. It was fine until the recent hot weather in slow traffic and the temp gauge was almost in the red. To reduce the demand on the cooling system, the a/c cuts out until things settle down. Booked it in and the radiator fan was replaced. No mention of a water pump problem. However, people with defective water pumps seem to report overheating at all speeds.
  4. These updates seem to be getting more and more difficult to write to the Original Skoda SD card each time. The ECE2017/18 was very problematic. Errors suggesting no space left on the card when it was down to the final few files to unpack, unresponsive Downloader program etc. After several attempts it finally went in and I'm now in year 4 of ownership from new!
  5. I got the car back today and the dealer claimed it was a software update that resolved the issue. Similar to your experience they tried the antenna, which didn't work and then reloaded software. This may have rebooted the head unit and that alone could have solved it. As we all know, if your PC locks up, the first thing you tend to do is reboot and 9/10 it solves the issue. Perhaps pulling the fuse to the head unit might have the same affect. However, when it does a cold restart, I'm not sure if any inputs are required to progress - a bit like the code you had to enter when repowering an older car radio!
  6. Unfortunately, it is still showing no gps reception and has now been looked at by the dealer. They have confirmed the fault and will be rectifying it next Tuesday.
  7. My satnav started showing No GPS reception in the maxi dot on the way home from work tonight. The position seemed to stay just off the coast near Southport! Apart from the odd lock up, the satnav has been working fine since June 2014 when I bought the car and I usually have it on the nav page whilst driving so no obvious indication of imminent failure. I suspect the antenna has failed and will be taking it into Simpsons when they call me back with a time. Has anyone else had this issue?
  8. Having queried this with both the AA and Skoda assistance, it is written in their policies that they will recover a trailer if it is only the trailer that has broken down but not the car. They will recover the trailer to a place of safety only, meaning a local garage. I reported the fact that when I phoned Skoda assistance at the time of the incident, they point blank refused to recover the trailer. Speaking with Skoda CS this morning, they are in agreement that my trailer should have been recovered and will be investigating why I was refused any assistance. It would appear that reading through most of the responses to my original post, most folk seem to think I am completely in the wrong. The AA's tag line is the 4th emergency service. If they don't provide any service what possible use is having the cover in the first instance. The breakdown cover that Skoda provide in not free, Skoda accounts for this when setting the purchase price of the car.

  10. They do go right across in the space just aft of the wheel arches. But in answer to your question I couldn't say as I don't have the upgraded sound system.
  11. Following a recent incident whilst towing in my Octavia, where I had to ask for assistance from Skoda breakdown, I am throughly disappointed with the outcome and lack of cover provided from this service. On 24/06/15, I purchased a second hand sailing dinghy and on my way home the wheel on the trailer collapsed, which meant I could no longer continue to drive. My car was perfectly ok but I needed the trailer to be recovered. On calling Skoda assistance, they categorically stated that no support would be provided in respect of recovering the trailer. Bearing in mind I have a manufacturers tow bar fitted, it would not be unreasonable to expect I may need assistance whilst towing. If my car breaks down and I am towing, both the car and trailer will be recovered. I can’t understand why if my trailer breaks down it cannot be afforded to same level of cover as the car. Obviously, if either car or trailer breaks down, it may be impossible to continue with the journey. Why are these restrictions imposed on the Skoda policy? It would appear that this product in not fit for purpose when I am towing. If I had known this when I purchased the car ,I would have opted out and sourced my own breakdown cover. As it happens, I will now have the additional expense of purchasing a breakdown policy with a competitor that offers comprehensive cover in the respect of towing a trailer. I could have posted this in general chat but as I have an Octavia, I thought it would get more coverage here.
  12. I answered my own question in that a good application of lithium grease did the trick. It will be interesting to see how long it goes before the creaking noise returns. Initially, I didn't suspect the lock mechanism as there seemed to be some grease in there. Normally I wouldn't ask such a trivial question but I was curious to hear if anyone else had the same issue and from the lack of replies, obviously not.
  13. My car has done just under 12.5 k and I am increasingly noticing a creaking noise that sounds like it is originating from the RHS B pillar. It is most noticeable when the car is travelling slowly going around bends or on uneven surfaces. I read on a VW forum that some door lock mechanisms can cause this and it sounds like the creaking noise is around the B pillar. I bought some lithium grease and sprayed the lock area on the RHS drivers door. Hopefully that might cure the noise. Has anyone else experienced the creaking noise that seems to come from the door/ b pillar area and subsequently had any success with greasing the lock mechanism?
  14. I got the Skoda bars FOC when I bought my car as part of the deal. They are very easy to fit, lockable and require no tools. Usual 75 kg max load and with the variable floor have a specific space in the boot. That means they are in the car all the time, if you are out and suddenly need them.
  15. I have been living with the notch steering (dead ahead position) for a while and thought as it is not constant, there must be other factors causing it. As my car has now covered 11-12K, I though I would swap the tyres round and hey presto no notchy steering under the same road conditions as before. The original fronts seemed evenly worn across the width and I always checked the tyre pressures regularly. So, I am puzzled as to why the wear on the fronts could have caused the steering issue? Perhaps the alignment is out a fraction but not enough to see a visible difference on tyre wear???
