  1. I don't, I was just describing the mode the car goes into where it is down on power and doesn't rev very far. It's currently with the mechanic so I might know soon. It has us both stumped.
  2. The key can be cut by your local locksmith/key cutter but you'll need the transponder chip for the new key coded to the car so it can start the engine. This is something an auto locksmith or dealer can do.
  3. I have the exact same era of car, engine and the exact same fault. Difficult to start, stopping and restarting the car works most times. Occasionally used to dip the revs/stall at lights, sometimes goes into limp mode and the exhaust management light comes on. Temp and all other gauges are fine but the problem seems to surface after a long drive when I stop for 10-15 min and try to get going again. It threw errors for camshaft position sensor (implausible signal) which was replaced, timing chain was replaced few thousand miles ago and it has been fully serviced. Currently with the mechanic as the faults remain after changing the sensor but no resolution yet. Was getting around 46-50 mpg before the car went into limp mode and dropped to 40 after. Cam shaft position sensor was less than a week old. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/352946-odd-starting-problems-and-oil-burn/ Did you get yours sorted?
  4. I'm confused as to how restarting the car cures all these issues. Wouldn't it be gradually worse? Assuming valve guides are worn how much is a repair likely to me. I'm thinking of trading in for a new fabia or a polo so was hoping to resolve all the issues first. edit: Just to add I'm getting 40mpg average and there's been no huge change since i got the car.
  5. I have a 2005 MK1 Fabia 1.2 HTP 6V, almost 100k miles and it's had the following odd behaviors: Burns about 500ml of oil every 1000miles or so - It's not leaking Sometimes it doesn't start first try, switching it off and on again lets it start Sometimes when it starts it sounds rough and feels like it's hitting the rev limited at 4000rpm instead of near 5-6000 as usual, Almost like a misfire. Restarting the car fixes this too. The yellow engine/exhaust system light came on and the car read the following fault codes: 16804 - Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold 16556 - System Too Rich, Bank 1 16725 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal I had the timing chain and this sensor replaced and the problem went away for a few months but now it's happened again, exact same light and same codes. I didn't drive for a week and the light went away. I'm not overly gifted mechanically (I can do the basics). Any ideas on what's wrong and what'll cost me to fix? edit: I should note, Car's due a full service soon if that's related?
  6. I've been trying to fit a towbar to my hatchback so I'll help you with what I've found. I've been quoted about £120ish for a towbar and basic electrics, £200ish fitted. The proper looms are silly money but you might get lucky second hand.
  7. I actually used that guide and couldn't find that feed for the life of me. This is a 2005 model and it appears there may be a few differences. For example the wiring for the indicators were different pins than the guide suggested.
  8. Thanks for suggestions. It was a bit of a pain getting at any wired but I took it off the 12V cigarette lighter as it's always on. Thanks for the suggestions.
  9. I was hoping to splice into the cable somewhere but the cables going into the fuse box are too tight to the fusebox to give me access with a soldering iron.
  10. Would it be best to take the feed from the radio wiring loom 8D/PIN5?
  11. I'm fitting a remote central locking kit and I'm looking to wire up a 12V feed that's always on and a cable to each indicator. I've taken the dash trim off but I can't identify any easy to get at 12V connections. I was going splice a cable off the cigarette lighter but I can't find where the cable is under the dash and there just isn't the room to solder a cable where the cable comes into the fuse box. Anyone got any ideas where I can take this feed and also where I would splice the kit onto the two indicators?
  12. I'm trying to fit my Fabia MK1 1.2 HTP 40kw with a towbar. It's literally just for a cycle carrier or small unbraked trailer of a few hundred kg. I'm ideally looking new and fitting it myself since all the quotes to have one fitted are in the £300 mark and I'm hoping to keep it under £100. I've found plenty on eBay for £70s worth but when I put my details in they say they aren't compatible. Does anyone know the best place to get one online or in Northern Ireland for the £100 mark or there abouts?
  13. Did you fit the towbar to the car yet? I'm thinking about fitting a towbar to the 1.2L 6v version and was wondering what your experience was. It's not going to be used for more than a 400kg trailer or a bike rack.
