  1. Many thanks Wino - looks like the one.
  2. I'm sure this isn't a new topic at all, but I've tried trawling through with no success - a pathetically slow broadband connection is no help either... Our Fabia Mk.1 was dumping all the screenwash out again more or less straight away, which we traced to the grommet holding in the pump. For lack of any other resource at the time, we codged it with tigerseal, which worked fine for the MOT, but now it's let go again! Can't seem to find one on t'interweb, so, please, does anyone know the part number???
  3. Thanks everyone. Had the car interrogated by a mate, and, once he'd cleared the massive list of error codes, it only comes up with steering angle sensor every time. We're going to try the procedure for resetting it first, involving combinations of ignition on, brake pedal depressed, driving forward, turning it 30 degrees, hanging the washing out on Thursday, etc... When we get round to it, that is, as I've bought another one in the meantime! Let you know what transpires.
  4. Thanks Wino. The only mention in the Owners Handbook is the advice to go to a Skoda dealer if any of these fuses need replacing! Anyhow, a mate with all the diagnostic stuff is going to interrogate it some time this week, so hopefully we'll know how to proceed from there.
  5. Curiouser and curiouser... Cold starting is impeccable, and always has been! 'Course, dear old Mr. Haynes doesn't seem to tell you anywhere what these fuses cover: a full run down of the box inside the car, but not a mention of the 'big' ones. By the way, I've checked no.7 in the interior box - hope that's correct - and it's okay. I'm near enough certain the pump isn't working, as you could hear it shut down immediately after the engine was switched off, before it went wrong, that is. Whether it's bust, or it's simply not getting any power supply for another reason I wouldn't have a clue at this stage...
  6. Thanks - and sorry to be so slow - been without broadband for a week - the joys of rural living... Nice one! Fusible link no.4 is broken - not melted, just a clean fracture. However, just bridging it has made no difference, so I'm assuming that this is a clue to something else? An oddity I've noticed since: the warning light stays off at idle, and goes out when I slow to a stop, regardless of whether or not I use the brakes.
  7. Many thanks to everyone who has replied - sorry I've been a bit slow! Since the last post things have changed a bit... There is no moaning from the pump now - in fact, there's no sound at all! Neither is there any power assistance to the steering... Could I be in luck here, and it's just the pump given up the ghost? Would the wisest move be to have the brain interrogated as a first step?
  8. Thanks Freedom, Comes on with initial switch on, goes out when engine is fired up - exactly as it should be, in other words. Battery 9 months old and alternator 2 weeks old! I've found some other info on here since I asked the question, and low voltage gets mentioned quite a lot, but it doesn't look like that's the problem...
  9. Hullo All. Just got back from a journey in our Mk.1 Fabia 1.9 tdi during which the power steering light came on. The steering itself doesn't feel any different (yet!). When the car is stood idling there's a lot of moaning from the pump when you turn the wheel, although you can't hear anything untoward at road speeds. Can't see any fluid leaking underneath, but it's a bit dark out there now! Is it likely to be simply a low fluid level, or is it something a bit more, like needing to replace the pump? I'm only asking because I assume it's a case of taking off the wheel arch cover to get at the unit, so it might be best to have everything to hand which might be needed. The upside is that the washer reservoir keeps emtpying itself, so hopefully I can deal with that whilst I'm in the area! PS We're off away for a couple of days tomorrow (not in the Fabia!), coming back Tuesday. So if I'm slow acknowledging replies please don't think I'm rude - just not near any wifi!
  10. Many thanks! I think I may have found it: the weather strip between the bottom of the windscreen and the plenum cover is very tired and sloppy, and the channel where the glass sits is full of wet and muck. Where it finds its way from there is a bit harder to see, but if it can be stopped there it can't go any further, one hopes...
  11. We've just acquired a 2002 Mk.1 L. & K. to replace our previous Octavia which self-destructed on the French Autoroute, although that's another story... Bev - my wife - has spent the last week cleaning up the filthy interior (which was probably how we got the car so cheap ), and it really looks the business now. However, with all the supplementary mats out we're now able to see a damp patch in the carpet of the driver's footwell which never dries out. At first we though Bev had splashed some water from the bowl, but, if anything, it's getting wetter! It's about 6" round and just behind the bit of plastic that's bonded in to rest your foot on. There's no sign of any wet from above, it hasn't rained much lately, and there's no dampness further up beyond the plastic bit. It smells of nothing (i.e. I don't think it's coolant or washer fluid) and it's colourless. We're completely mytified, plus we don't want the floor to rot out! Has anyone else come across this phenomenon?
  12. Hullo Everyone! I'm new here, and straight away I've got a question! We probably do as many miles in our 1999 Felicia in France as in Blighty, and ordinary 95 RON petrol is getting hard to find. Motorway services only offer E10 or 98 RON (which is painfully expensive!), and off the motorway cut-price outlets often only have E10. The only places you can find 95 with 5% ethanol are the supermarkets. I've read in a number of places (including on here) and here: http://www.e10bensiini.fi/en/e10_compatible_motors/e10_compatible_motors_-_cars/skoda that changing an O-ring in the fuel pressure regulator will solve it, but where does one get one? Has anybody else any experience of this? I can't imagine our local Skoda dealer is going to be at all interested in providing a small part for a 15-year-old car, and all enquiries that I've made to online European car part specialists etc. haven't even attracted the courtesy of a reply... All help gratefully received!
