  1. Thanks! Exactly that. Are they fixed by plastic connectors that may snap? I'll have a go at that.
  2. Hi guys, Looking to paint the old plastic trims on my bumpers. They are past any trim restorers. Any easy way of removing them for this process? Thanks
  3. cheers guys. while I was at it I removed the throttle body to clean out. Was a bit of gunge but not too bad. Next job is to change the ATF.
  4. Replaced today. All working as it should now. Went for the Gates. OMG that bottom bolt holding the housing pipe on was almost impossible to reach. Took me forever to get that out. Alternator basically blocking the access. Would have been easier taking the alternator out first!
  5. Back home now after 9 days of travelling. Skoda was great apart from this hickup. Did several hundred miles. Temp stayed steady for the M54/M6 trip back home. It only dropped on those long down hills in Wales and also takes a bit to warm up I will order a new thermostat this week and get it put in hopefully next weekend. Leave you with a pic of my skoda on Black Rock Sands nr. Porthmadog.
  6. Sorry to bump your thread. Good to know as my rear doesn't work. I thought it was just blocked and ran off the front one but as you said it is separate. ( assuming the estate is the same design as mine)
  7. Luckily the last 2 days of holiday driving around West Wales has been trouble free. Temp stuck at 90 through the Welsh roads and bank holiday traffic through Barmouth and Abersoch. A/C on full at times and a lot of stop start traffic and other times steep hill climbs. But I will still change it once I get back as it's probably a sign it's on its last legs.
  8. I guess this is a genuine one at 26 pounds (plus 5 pound shipping) as opposed to the 7 pound Gates. Gates is a good make I understood. Always used their timing kits. http://www.skodaparts.com/product/octavia-thermostat-1-6-1-8-2-0-1997-2008-27500
  9. I ahve noticed after we've done some long hard drives that if we stop and get out we can smell a kind of burning rubber smell around the car. Couldn't see anything amiss underneath. Was thinking maybe an exhaust mounting. It's not the same smell as burning oil on pipes. Noticed it last year when we went to Ireland. Now in Wales we stopped on the way through Snowdonia mountains and it was like burning tyres!. Different to brake pads. Wheel bearings not hot.
  10. Thanks guys. I'll probably order in a Gates. Where would I buy a genuine one online?
  11. Typical! Left for half term hols today, 3.5 hour drive to Porthmadog, over the hills through Bala and I see the temp dropping from 90 to 75/80 on the long downhills. Got a bit worried. Then it climbs up slowly again to 90 on the straights. Never seen this behaviour before. I guess I need to change the thermostat as it's not closing fast enough. I'm out here for the next 7 days with a lot of driving plannned. It should be ok for the moment shouldn't it? I won't be able to change it for another week until we get back home. Any recommendations to which one? thanks
  12. Good advice - I ended up buying twice. I don't know how these sellers get away with bad MAFs on the market. So strict with MOT's but there is no regulation selling parts that don't work.
  13. Post #30? Unfortunately post#1 is unavailable. Also How can we jack it up and get a stand under it if there is only one point? The main frame chassis must be an option from the picture above. The main attachment for the rear suspension arm is attached to this with the 4 bolts which takes a lot of abuse.
  14. Fingers crossed i may have fixed my leak! Just had 3-4 hours of heavy rain here and I didn't see a drop come through.
