  1. Hi All, im desperately trying to find the cause of my clicking/knocking noise when turning as my local VW specialist suggested the the steering rack may be at fault and while these seem to be common on the MK5 golf platform I want to rule everything else out first before I start changing the rack again! (Replaced it about 3 years ago with a brand new part due to some previous knocking issues) whilst digging around I checked the CV joints etc and this noise seemed particularly offensive and I wanted to check in to see if anyone has heard it before, if it’s an issue or if it’s a normal noise. It definitely seems to be in the diff rather than CV joints. Any help you guys can offer is greatly appreciated! Stu
  2. I had a similar noise to this and it ended up being an A/C leak, the Octys are common to need condensers due to stones piercing holes in them. I also had a leaky pressure sensor. Hope this points you in the right direction.
  3. I may pop along to my first meet, only down the road in Clanfield. Stu
  4. Hi all, I've not actually posted a photo of my car on here since I bought it nearly 3 years ago. So here it is!
  5. Hi all, I'm after some pics of a silver ashtray and gearknob surround on the VRS, I'm thinking of wrapping mine to match the standard dash but I'm interested to see what it looks like first! Many thanks!
  6. Hi All, I've had a good hunt around with no conclusive answer, I've had an issue with my Pre-FL VRS Estate for a few months now and I've been putting it off. When it's been raining my number plate lights don't work initially, then normally if I slam the boot or cycle the ignition after a short journey they work again. Has anyone had this before? Know how to fix it? I have suspicions that it may have something to do with the boot close sensor which I believe is in the lock.
  7. I too am running the eibach pro kit (20mm) and I wouldn't really call it 'low' but boy oh boy does it handle nicely now!
  8. With my rack it never knocked under driving conditions only when moving slowly or whilst stationary, I can only presume this has something to do with toe angles and loads under drive etc etc. The rack is a sealed unit and as long as you can put up with the noise and there's no play whilst driving then put up with it. I changed mine as it annoyed me and I'm pretty competent with the spanners and got a great deal on a Brand new old stock rack on eBay! Stu
  9. Hi all, would a friendly VRS owner be able to measure their boot badge for me as I'm looking to replace my Octavia II VRS badge to the later type found on the MK2 Fabia (found a cheap one) and I fear it may be smaller than the Octavia ones. Many thanks Stu!
  10. As above its impossible to compare fuels for economy unless in a lab, I've actually managed to do 700 miles on one tank of V-Power to the south of France but on a regular week I'll only get around 500 miles from a tank!
  11. The gearbox mount is located under the battery tray and I replaced mine about 2 weeks ago as mine was worn. Info can be found here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/154843-engine-mount-failure/
  12. Had a good poke underneath yesterday and my dogbone mount seems to be in a good condition and the bolts were all tight. I'm tempted to put a top engine mount on it as there's signs of wear and I've also seen the other thread about anti roll bar bushes so I might do these as well while I'm at it!
  13. I'll crawl underneath the car tomorrow if the weather permits and see if I can see any play. I'm expecting to see play in the dogbone mount at the engine side. Hopefully that'll fix it!
