  1. Hi. Regarding my 2.0 diesel, 2010 Superb. I have noticed on a few occasions lately that the dedicated exhaust pipe for the auxiliary heating is pumping out smoke/fumes after I start up the car. I am referring to the small exhaust pipe under the cars engine, not the main exhaust at the back of the car. This happens even if I do not activate the auxiliary heating by the remote key fob, and the auxiliary heating is not set on a timer either. I assume the auxiliary heating is running if this is pumping out exhaust fumes, or am I wrong? I'd prefer for it not to run! It has been cold of late (winter, between -5 and +5'c). Is this something to do with it being active without me manually activating it? Maybe it happens all the time, but I only notice on some days (e.g. frosty, non-windy days)
  2. Whoops, just seen this is in the Octavia forum, Can someone please move it to Superb?
  3. Hi. Regarding my 2.0 diesel, 2010 Superb. I have noticed on a few occasions lately that the dedicated exhaust pipe for the motor warmer (auxiliary heating I believe it is called in the manual) is pumping out smoke after I start up the car. I am referring to the small exhaust pipe under the cars engine, approximately placed under the passenger seats feet outside if the car. Not the main exhaust at the back of the car. This happens even if I do not activate the auxiliary heating by the remote key fob. The auxiliary heating is not set on a timer either. I assume the auxiliary heating is running if this is pumping out exhaust fumes, or am I wrong? I'd prefer for it not to run! It has been cold of late (winter, between -5 and +5'c). Is this something to do with it being active without me manually activating it? Maybe it happens all the time, but I only notice on some days (e.g. frosty, non-windy days) Recently I have not been using the auxiliary heating via the dedicated key fob as I've had a very weak battery and I heard that the auxiliary heating uses a lot of battery, and that this is no issue if you clock up many KMs after using it, but I only drive short distances these days, so I am choosing not to use it at all. Any info. or advise on this welcomed. The manual does not give me any info. about this.
  4. It was a Ceed. I was after a diesel as I travel so far each day. Got a good offer on a 1 year old Ceed. Lets hope it is as relaiable as the Fabia. The VW mechanic friend of the guy that bought my Fabia, told him to buy a Fabia over a Polo! That I found quite interesting!
  5. yeah, this is the opinion that I get also. a good site indeed. So no doubt I'll be returning. seems to be many non-skoda drivers here from what I makde out ...so, speak again soon.
  6. I sold my 2001 fabia today as I bought a new car. It was quite sad to say goodbye as it has been an absolutely wonderful car for me for the last 3½ years. Never let me down once in the time I had it, and I made 134,000 KM in it. (@32,000 KM when I bought it, and 166,000 KM when I sold it today) I'd like to say thanks to all the supportive members that have helped me on this forum. You're advise has always been excellent and I appreciate it dearly. If I move to Skoda again (Octavia is definately an option for me!) I shall be visiting once more. All the best. Keep on beepin' AC
  7. I almost feel like crying. I have been quoted £860 for timing belt/water pump, from my local VW garage in Sweden. There is nowhere else around here to do the job, so I have to go with it :( I was just considering selling the car as well. Car has done 167,000km (about 104,000 miles) and it is the first time it has been done as far as I know.
  8. Thanks for all the input. A lot for me to take in. Some of it makes sense to me It is not that I am after a tiptronic gearbox, but I just seen a few for sale here in Sweden. I am after a Diesel in General, but they either: 1- sell immediately (I never seen them 2nd hand in dealers) 2 -are very overpriced. UK has a great 2nd hand market for cars that I envy very much.
  9. I am having trouble taking in all the information I am finding about tiptronic gearboxes. All the info. is too technical for me. I have seen a few Audi's and Superbs for sales with such a gear box, I was looking for some basic 'pros/cons' info and also about fuel economy, and 'longevity' of such a gear box (will it last). I am a predominantly Motorway driver, looking for a Diesel, and commute 140KM (85miles) round trip daily (95% motorway, 5% city streets)
  10. ok, thanks for the replies. swift as usual I'm gonna be driving it a bit later and see how it goes. Hitting it with a hammer?! hmm... ok, I'll see if this is the culprit and see if I can get it secured/fixed. I'm only assuming this piece of metal in the photo is the culprit as it seemed to make the same noise when I slapped it with a thin branch... oooh er but if I find it is something else, I'll let you know.
  11. here is the photo as an attachement. will have a look at the welding also...
  12. Hi, I am out on the road, on a trip around sweden. Occassionally over the last few weeks there has been an annoying clanking metallic sound from under the car. Unfortunately when I take the car to the Skoda (or VW) garage the noise stops. Car is a Fabia 2001 model, 1.4, 101bhp There are no warning lamps lit up, and it is not the steering as the noise does not occur when turning the steering wheel. It kind of sounds like the dragging of an exhaust pipe along the road, which it definately is not, as there is nothing 'hanging' down from the car. I had a tap around with a thin tree branch under the car and a similar sound occurs from this (with the perforated part): Does anyone think this could be the cuplrit, or what the problem may be? We take the car on country roads quite a lot, and I am thinking there could be a stone trapped there maybe rattling around? It is not happening today (typical) but I guess it will come back soon....
  13. wow, this is an old post - revived ) I'm still taking photos of cars, but hardly Lada's/Moscvich anymore as there are none where I currently live (Sweden). I used to go to the Baltics and Bulgaria a bit which is where I took most of those photos. This one reminds me of 'KnightRider' > http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/403/01ladavaz2105tuningol1.jpg ?? KIT?? There is a section on the left of my webpage called 'moscvich' that contains a few more if anyone wants to see: butterpeanut - photos by andrew crighton and then click 'moscvich'. Thanks for all the stories and comments. Always good to read..
  14. whoops, I changed all the links on my webpage over the weekend, here is the new direct link to the Forest Scrap Yard in Sweden: Åkes Bilskrtot
  15. Actually, I had not thought about that before; That the Anglia was Left Hand Drive. But yeah, I guess that seems a bit odd. Maybe it was a 'conversion' job?
