  1. It ruined the flywheel because it was driven in that state repeatedly.
  2. Most emissions control equipment isn’t even active under 18*C ambient and research published yesterday suggests that whole life CO2 output is actually higher than equivalent petrol engine. In my opinion the latest models are most offensive from a smell perspective.
  3. When the chain “stretched”, in my case the car suffered massive and sudden momentary power loss under load in the mid range. No warning lights. But the diagnostics was very quick, there is a defined procedure of course and the cam lock tool doesn’t fit in at TDC because the cam is basically off by a degree or whatever. CTHE, 30k-ish, 2014. but anyway, what is meant by a chain stretching? From what I have read it is the pins wearing that makes the chain appear to stretch, and that can only be due to inadequate quality components or lack of lubrication. It’s worth noting that VAG has extensive history with the former via the 1.2TSi and the lower powered twin chargers.
  4. I was lucky, the CTHE I had never needed a single drop of oil. CO2 isn't the issue; for me cycling in London every day I can choose not to smoke, but I cannot choose not to breath the diesel fumes. The odd thing is that the newest cars and vans are the worst, that awful dry choking quality to air that just lingers even when it's windy. And of course, it turns out this is massively poisonous as well as unpleasant. So, good riddance to them as far as I'm concerned. VW group has seemingly gotten away with their myth around diesel being in any way 'clean' notwithstanding the engineering of test results. The whole issue has certainly resulted in VAG vehicles not being on my shopping list this time around as I find the company to be disingenuous around their brand promise, and also of course the test results and many examples of poor quality engineering.
  5. The best approach to cleaning them up is to scrap it and buy something not powered by the devils blood.
  6. Apparently DPF will be tested in the MOT from April next year (currently a simple visual check). http://alderleyautos.co.uk/mot-northampton/mot-to-change-in-2018/
  7. Frankly that call from them is awful. No one would make that Up three times, inconveniencing themselves with garage time in the process. In my view you are owed a writen apology and financial compensation for your time due to clearly inadequent investigative works earlier AND having reported to you work was done that wasn't. Please name the dealer here too
  8. FWIW I suspect there will be a significant strengthening of diesel MOT tests. pre 2009 cars are now being targeted for scrapage, those are not old vehicles really, and have a bunch of emissions control usually, in some cases including DPF.
  9. Yes if it's worn right down the rivets can make contact leaving scoring, meaning the flywheel has to be machined (skimmed) as part of the job.
  10. If the friction material gets completely worm through the metal on metal will also ruin the flywheel.
  11. I'd suggest that you will need to find "the right" buyer for this. There are undoubtedly buyers that will be interested in the works performed. For me the car would be worth book price, less the cost of putting the proper rear axle back in it and the EGR valve, since that may become a future MOT failure. any prospective buyer would presumably have to weigh up just getting a VRS if they are interested in those parts of it.
  12. If engine speed increases without any increase in car speed then absolutely the clutch is slipping and will need replacing.
