Ghostly electric windows.......
skodaspannerman replied to skodaspannerman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
awesome, thanks DBP. was it affecting all windows? -
HI all, I have a bit of a funny one, The electric windows have started doing their own thing, they will all go up and down whenever they feel like it, and only occasionally respond to any switches, the rears were especially bad, often going up and down in fits and starts. I have unplugged the drivers door window switch cluster, and this has stopped them acting randomly, I can hear relays clicking away, but the windows don't move. I did flick the mirror adjuster between left and right before I unplugged the switch cluster, and the rears immediately went all the way down, weird.......... just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem ever, if it is switch cluster, or possible body computer. Car is a 52 plate vrs with 198000 miles. Many thanks, Rob

EPC light on, won't start
skodaspannerman replied to skodaspannerman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Started fine after a battery disconnect for a bit, occassionally refuses to start on first attempt for about 5 seconds but then starts and idles a little high, EPC light stays on, no new DTCs......... -
Hi all, had an issue with my mk1 VRS, the EPC light has on a couple of occasions, stayed on while cranking, then she starts after about 5 seconds of cranking. Switch off, starts again perfectly. Sadly, a halfords battery decided to let me down yesterday morning, and car wouldn't crank fast enough to start. Replacement battery on, EPC light stays on, and she won't start at all..........just cranks. I am going to collect my OBD2 to have a look at the fault codes, just wondered if anyone has had a similar problem?

Hi all, I am not on here often, but wondered if anyone has had the same issue I am having.... I have got VRS/WRC 97 Just covered 170k lovely miles.. Serviced regularly. I have a stutter/hiccup at low throttle openings, say, cruising in a 30 zone, or even 70+ on the motorway... I have no loss of power on WOT, and she accellerates cleanly, and is fine on over run. Only exhibits the trait when driving on a balanced throttle, cruising, with a small throttle opening (of say, less than 25%) it is not like a sudden lift of the throttle, it is a total, if very brief, loss of power, feels almost like a quick but gentle dab of the brakes. Apart from P0601 (memory check sum error) which has been with the car since purchasing 5 years ago, there are no fault codes coming up.... I would really appreciate knowing if anyone has experienced the same and has any solutions!!1 Thanks in advance! Rob

P0010 VVT Fault
skodaspannerman replied to skodaspannerman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
OK, have checked at the ECU, following autodata, pin 115 (Green/White) should show 11-14V at idle, I am getting 5-6V........ I gather it is ECU Earthed switch, so therefore I am looking for a supply problem with the YellowBlack Wire.....? -

P0010 VVT Fault

thanks rwbaldwin. have removed oil screen, was clean anyway, will have to trace the wires back to the plug and check. Thanks -
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem I have with my VRS (WRC 97/100, ex Mr Densem)..... Car was running fine, strong boost, until a month ago, when I would get occasional loss of boost in 4th, back off the throttle, go again, boost back again...... Then one day, loss of power, allowing (an estimated) 4psi, not the usual lots..... Read the ECU.... P0601 Memory check Sum error (had this one since buying the car, never been an issue, and so was ignored) and P0010 Cam Position Actuator Circuit Malfunction..... I have done the following..... Oil change (twice) and filter change including an oil flush (despite regular oilchanges, I thought I had better be sure.....) Visual chack of wiring (no damage evident other than a small run of wires in the scuttle going to the ecu had broken (looked like rodent activity while in storage in spain), now repaired, fault not cured. Removed VVT solenoid, checked resistance, (17 ohms, apparently in range) fed 12 volts to it briefly while off vehicle, working fine...... The car has twice refused to start first time, cranking normally without starting (almost like a fuel cut) but always started fine second time.... this problem has not reoccurred... The car has done 166,000 miles, but the engine still sounds as sweet as the proverbial nut and there are no other faults that I can find... I am now getting quite frustrated and wondered if anyone had found a similar problem/solution and I would be REALLY grateful of any advice or experience people have..... .

Walbro 255 fuel pump
skodaspannerman replied to skodaspannerman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
An uprated pump is pretty much an essential on a tuned car. The std pump does concern me for high outputs. and for the money I would rather feel secure in the knowledge there is enough fuel being supplied. The walbro (with mod) seems to do this quite nicely. Will get some pics when I next strip a pump out and either show the home brew or the fabricated method of rectification... This may take a little while as the day job seems to be quite demanding at present. -
Walbro 255 fuel pump
skodaspannerman replied to skodaspannerman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
I know the std pump does not pick up any lower than the walbro. The inlet at the bottom on BOTH pumps is low enough for the main feed. the trick on the STD pump is the secondary inlet, that picks up from the fuel return, hence avoiding starvation..... The "swirl pot" is just a chamber that fills from the return pipe and the standard pump picks up from this via the secondary inlet into the pump......Which the walbro does not have....hence the mod. -
Walbro 255 fuel pump
skodaspannerman replied to skodaspannerman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Thanks for response, the walbro sits low enough, imho the key is in the fuel return, and seeing where it returns fuel to, as the std pump picks up return fuel to avoid starvation on rh bends, using a secondary pick up point. Have modded pump to do this, in process of des and fab of a one off part to do this. -
Walbro 255 fuel pump

Thanks for replies, there is a slight flaw in the conversion, the walbro needs some adaptation to work correctly. I have found a solution, I was wondering who else had done the conversion and suffered the surge/starvation problem. -
Hi All. I have heard a few people have gone this route with the VRS, and I have recently done so. I have heard of people suffering with fuel surge/starvation when running low fuel levels and cornering round right handers.... Is anyone running this pump and still suffering this problem? Cheers y'all. Bu
