  1. Hi all. I sold my Fabia 1.9Tdi to my brother and the electric windows are playing up. In fact, they're playing "won't work". Obviously I've done some reading up on this, and checked everything that I could. There are a couple of other electrical issues too so I'd really like to get hooked up to a decent fault code reader to see if there are any errors showing. I live in Wellington, near Taunton, and I wonder if anyone in the area would be kind enough to scan the car for me. I'm happy to pay of course, it's just that I'd rather find someone on here who's an enthusiast than go to a local garage. Many thanks Steve
  2. Air filter looks fine, I think it has just been replaced. A couple more things to note. Firstly, I can confirm it will start fine from cold, and fine if restarted straight away. It seems to be a problem when it's warm but has been left for a while. I can't help feeling that fuel is running back down the fuel lines rather than being readily available to fire the engine. But that wouldn't explain why it starts OK in the morning would it? Now having opened up the bonnet to check the air filter I notice a high-pitched whine coming from the unit at the top left of the engine bay. It might have always done that for all I know, but weird nonetheless. edit - this is apparently the vacuum control box, but you guys know that. Also, having done a bit more research it seems that my semi-faulty brake light sensor might be part of the issue. Sometimes that warns me of a failed bulb when I put my foot on the brake, but the bulbs are just fine. Not sure if this is related but somewhere on this forum there was a suggestion that a faulty sensor could cut the fuel. (That's just thinking out loud, but I didn't want a "well why didn't you mention that...?"). Also, that sensor thing way a problem waaaaay before my wife put petrol in the thing. Thanks for help though everyone, I'm sure I'll get this sorted as I want to sell and and there's no way I'd want to if it wasn't running perfectly.
  3. It has had an oil and filter change, but probably not an air filter. I'll check now and replace the fuel filter again too. Thanks
  4. Thanks to all. The above comment is noted, but wouldn't that make the problem manifest itself when starting from cold as well? I do wonder if there's some fuel starvation though, because putting my foot on the throttle when starting makes it fire more readily.
  5. I haven't actually asked the garage what they did when fixing the car, but discussions beforehand suggested that they'd drain the tank, flush the fuel system through, and replace whatever filters needed replacing. I certainly got the impression that they'd done this on quite a few occasions and to be honest I'm just glad the engine is running again. I also took the opportunity to have the oil and oil filter changed as it was approaching 10k miles since the last change. They haven't sent the bill yet, and I'm sure that when they do send it it will specify the work done. I really should add that this a very well respected local garage. I've used them for a number of years and completely trust them to charge me fairly. As I've just bought a new car I was going to sell the Fabia, but I'd want it to running perfectly again before selling it. If I can't get that sorted I'll keep it and sell my Aygo instead. Thanks all. P.s About 150 miles since repair.
  6. The one time my wife fills up the Fabia she chucks £30 worth of unleaded in it. My local and very helpful garage went and collected the car, did what they do when one's wife makes this kind of mistake, and it's running again. The engine sounds the same as ever, goes perfectly well, no problem there. But, when I start it on a warm engine it doesn't fire anywhere near as easily, taking a few turns of the crank and being quite lumpy whilst its being started. The opinions of the forum as to the likely problem would be very welcome. I could ask the garage too of course, but you guys know your stuff. Cheers all.
  7. Ah good stuff. The acorns is a great little course, and very quiet. You also don't have the problem of having everyone watching you on the 18th like you do on Oaks :-)
  8. That can't be an official CONGU handicap unless you are playing a HUGE amount of golf, because if you were off of 14, the highest your exact handicap could be is 14.4 - You can only increase that number by .1 in any round, so you'd need to go 14.4 to 16.5, or 21 rounds outside of your category 3 buffer zone. Just being a pedant, but then I was handicap sec of my local club until I got a job here: www.woodburypark.co.uk

Because my telepathy is having Sunday off and the poster might have been writing about how the BBC is obsessed with it.
  10. I found it to be a terrifying vision of the future. Not for one second did I think "Wow that's cool", all I could think about was the software behind it watching your every move, collecting every bit of data it can, and knowing you better than you know yourself. Privacy will be the one of the currencies of the future, with one of the definitions of wealth being how little the state knows about you. These people aren't making pretty bunny displays in forests for anything other than cold hard profit. And yes, I'm no fun at parties.
  11. I saw this on my employer's Twitter feed and can't believe it's legal: https://diversityinsurance.co.uk "We'll take the time to understand your needs to find the right policy at the right price, including offering discounts for couples in Civil Partnerships." In other words, same-sex couple receive a discount. Surely that cannot possibly be legal.

Certainly not me. BBC obsessed with it, nobody else cares.
  13. I have (had) a black one for non-recyclable, a green one for paper and tins, a black one for cardboard. There is (was) also small brown one in the kitchen for waste food, which then (used to) gets emptied into a larger brown bin to go out with the others. All except the big black bin have been thrown out and ironically went into the non-recyclable skip at the local tip. Everything goes in the black bin. If I don't have room left I just chuck stuff into litter bins, being careful to remove identifying marks. As far as I'm concerned the eco-nutters can go feck themselves.
