  1. I too have a Fabia 1.4 16v 54 plate. The temperature gauge is vvvvery slow on the uptake and sits comfortably in the centre of the dial which I am led to believe where it is suppsed to be. The oil consumption is CRAP they find 1.5l as acceptable mine falls into 0.74l per 601 miles. Hope this helps.
  2. Lynne, not to concern you but I had similar problems with the light coming on after a few months of having a service. I filled up completely with a bottle then went on a long journey, rechecked and the level had dropped. Back and forth to the garage who have now informed me that an acceptable level is.............................1.5L per 600miles of driving! so be warned that if you have the same problem that I have you might be wise to invest in a large bottle of oil like myself.... Bye!
  3. Thank you all for the extra comments on my problem. I have recently had the car back and forward to the garage and they have done such tests as "weighing the oil?" The final two tests have consisted of driving the car 200miles and returning for consumption measurement. They have informed me in writing that the car is running at 0.74L per 601miles, the recommending useage is 1.5l per 601 miles so my car falls well within their guidelines. This is unbeleivable that a modern car 54 plate can require so much oil to keep it on the road. I am truly disgusted with this sort of acceptable rate for a not so cheap car. I thought Skoda had moved on!! When I originaly took the car to Skoda they said they saw blue smoke (I have never seen) and they heard a knock (this knock happened couple of times on a freezing morning going up hill).. They recommended a possible engine overhaul Pistons etc etc. After stomping my foot on the floor they approached Skoda themselves who asked for the tests to be carried out before they would pay anything. If I was little Joe Bloggs I would have forked out
  4. I have the same problem with my FABIA 54 PLATE 1.4 16V. The car has had numerous visits to the SKODA DEALER as I had the Oil light come on asnd found the tank to be empty. They performed numerous tests such as "weighing the oil" and myself having to drop the car off after 200miles for the useage to be measured. Now I hope you are sitting down for this one!! They have informed me with a piece of paper from SKODA that an acceptable oil consupmtion for this car is 1.5 Litres per 600 miles!!!!!!! mine came in at 0.74. This has left me in a state of shock as I have never had a car that requires this much oil!. I am however investigating this further!! Hope this helps.
  5. whats the difference between the CODE? AUB OR BBZ. I have recently noticed that my oil level has dropped quite significant. I assumed after the service they did not top the oil up fully, but I am starting to feel a little concerned now as I too have the 1.4 16v engine though it is on 54 plate and having only done 20,000 miles seems a little early to be having major problems like the ones stated above?.. Thanks! A concerned Skoda Driver!
  6. I recently had a similar problem where the oil light came on when going round a sharp corner. I topped up with 3 pints of oil 10/40 advised by an unsure mechanic. 3 days later my engine light has now turned on, after dropping it into the vw garage they said the reason for the light was the lambda sensor. The car was serviced back in September and we are assuming they only put the basic amount in the oil tank which was the reason for the lack of oil as I have no leaks and am not burning oil. The car is a 1.4 16v 54 plate with only 20,000 miles on the clock, surely this is just a sensor problem rather than a major piston problem?... I have topped the oil up and plan to check on a reasonably regular basis. Any advice Thanks Would I be right in assuming that if I had piston problems I would hear some constant noise? I would notice other major problems and the piston problem would show on the computer when linked up?>> Thanks again!
  7. I too have the same problem with the engine light being illuminated. I panicked on the way home from work (today) and popped into the local VW dealer who kindly linked it to their computer. He told me that it was showing as the LAMBDA sensor which purely controls the output of emissions into the atmosphere????. The rough price quoted was £90 for the sensor with 1 hours work £59 approx. I have also been informed of other people who have had the problem for numerous years. When it comes to MOTS the just take it for a big run before they go to the garage and it usually gives a reasonable readout for the emissions.. Personally speaking I bet we had all these problems with the older cars but now we have to over react because a light appears and tells us to panic...!!
  8. Thanks again for your help, it is much appreciated! I have contacted the Bro In Law and asked about the back footwells and no problems to date. Back to the knocking noise, it seems to disappear after 5 mins of drving. Maybe being slightly over cautious!! Here goes my £4000 into the Bros hand! BIG THANKS again its gave me some form of reassurance... Will look at changing the gearknob on your recommendation as I found the gearstick to be slightly dull !!
  9. WOW what a great response.!! Pleased in a way to hear someone is having similar problems and hopefully is nothing to worry about. It does sound something similar but the confusing situation is it only does it when going up a slight incline and cold. As for the leaf, is there any easy way to remove from behind the vents? Also pleased to hear I might be getting a bargain, especially knowing where the car is coming from with regards owner is reassuring! So heres to a Knocking Skoda !! which if it only taps on the odd occasion I can deal with, was just questioning incase it might be the telling signs of problems ahead... Big THANKS!!
  10. Hello all Was looking to purchase a Fabia 1.4 16v 54 plate 20,000 miles on the clock from the Bro In Law. He has informed me that there is a slight knock from the front of the car on the odd occasion. Generally speaking it sounds like a slight tap for a 3 second period which only occurs during a cold or wet period and when the car is travelling up a slight incline. After the car has heated up and you return to the same incline the problem does not re-occur. Also you get a slight flicking noise from the heaters which sounds like a leaf is stuck.. Could the two be related?.. Has anyone else experienced this problem?. Could this problem develop into a major one taking into consideration that this only occurs on inclines and when very cold. Also would I be paying a good price on . "54" plate Fabia Comfort 1.4 16v 20,000 miles on the clock Alloys, Aircon, metallic paint Full Service history 1 owner Bro In Law.. The car is in super mint condition. Also being new to the forums are the Fabia Comforts a good buy?.. Skoda people dont shout at me for asking that question!! £4000 cash !! Thanks for reading and thanks in advance to anyone who responds/
