  1. Hi All, I have had this fault since December during the really cold weather. My car is the 90hp, AGR engine and has ran without fault for three years. Symptoms: Starts first time, every time - but has started cutting out or stuttering when driving and sitting on my drive. The engine dies for a second and the glow plug light flashes twice, recently during heavy rain it cut out three times on one journey home from work (17 miles). You have to turn the ignition off and restart while moving - starts first time. Parts Replaced / Checked: Relay's 109 and 103 have been replaced. Wiring around the ECU and relay plate has been inspected, battery and air box removed to check wiring up to the injection pump. ECU plug has been removed and cleaned, ECU has been removed and PCB inspected for dry joints by eye (I was thinking of taking it to work and using the Microscope) I have the latest VAG-COM report below: VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S Chassis Type: 1U - Skoda Octavia Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,19,35,46,56 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 01: Engine Controller: 038 906 018 GM Component: 1,9l R4 EDC 0000SG 2162 Coding: 00002 Shop #: WSC 31480 4 Faults Found: 01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded 09-10 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed - Intermittent 18047 - Accelerator Position Sensor 1/2 (G79/G185): Implausible Signal P1639 - 35-00 - - 16989 - Internal Control Module: ROM Error P0605 - 35-00 - - 16989 - Internal Control Module: ROM Error P0605 - 35-00 - - Readiness: N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 03: ABS Brakes Controller: 1J0 907 379 P Component: ABS 20 IE CAN 0001 Coding: 03304 Shop #: WSC 31480 2 Faults Found: 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent 01314 - Engine Control Module 49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Skipping Address 15-Airbags ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 17: Instruments Controller: 1U2 919 034 G Component: A4-KOMBIINSTR. Does anybody have any ideas? Next stop will be the scrap yard :'( Thanks for taking the time to read my guff! Cheers, Mark.
  2. Well I've been out in the sun all afternoon and found....................nothing physically wrong with the ECU. :( I'm giving up for now until I get warmed up. Then I can plug in the laptop and see what's going on. In the mean time I need to find an old car as a runaround until I get the Octavia fixed. Grrrrrrrrrr. Thanks for your help Mark.
  3. Ah the old 4digit code, I've heard about that before. Thanks for the link. I'll rip the ECU out tomorrow and leave details of my findings. Cheers, Mark.
  4. Hmmm, thanks for the link. Internal voltage reg - just up my street. I've got some internal photo's of my type of ECU I'm off for a look around, I wish it wasn't so cold outside, very fustrating!! There are alot on ebay, not quite the same, just the last letters are different, eg: mine 038906018GM ebay 038906018GN, do you think I could use one if it's recoded? Cheers, Mark.
  5. Thanks guys. rwbaldwin: The old 109 relay is a genuine VAG item, I have a photo if required of both old relays. All connections to both relays have been checked and are fine including thickness and contact grip. The ECU was checked in the summer when I replaced the cabin filter and the entire area was cleaned. The engine stutters or stalls but nothing else is affected, blowers work during and after, no lights flickering etc. I will warm the car up fomorrow before disconnecting the battery and ecu. fordfan: when you mention the log code do you mean the IMMO-IDENTNR: number I edited above? I am beginning to think it is the ECU myself, all this started after finishing work on Friday, was it the 13th by chance?? Thanks again. Mark.
  6. Hi All, I have an Octavia, 2000 GLX 1.9tdi, engine code AGR. The last fault / post I made can be found here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/182803-strange-glowlight-and-stalling/ Now I'm in trouble I replaced relay 109 and 103 with brand new Skoda items and left the car on the driveway for 30-40 minutes, no problems or stuttering. Today I go out in the reasonably warm -9 temps and start the car, within 5 mins it stutters and stalls. This gets worse and I hook up VAG-COM to find the following: Yes, I did clear all faults after replacing both relays!! VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S Control Module Part Number: 038 906 018 GM Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC 0000SG 2162 Software Coding: 00002 Work Shop Code: WSC 31480 5 Faults Found: 16989 - Internal Control Module: ROM Error P0605 - 35-00 - - 18047 - Accelerator Position Sensor 1/2 (G79/G185): Implausible Signal P1639 - 35-00 - - 18020 - Engine Control Module Incorrectly Coded P1612 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 01282 - Intake Manifold Flap change-over Valve (N239) 31-00 - Open or Short to Ground 17660 - Cold Start Injector (N108) Open or Short to Ground P1252 - 35-00 - - ------------------------------------------------------------------ VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S Chassis Type: 1U - Skoda Octavia Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,19,35,46,56 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 01: Engine Controller: 038 906 018 GM Component: 1,9l R4 EDC 0000SG 2162 Coding: 00002 Shop #: WSC 31480 No fault code found. (apart from a gallon of petrol and a match :'( ) Thanks for reading my guff! Mark.
  7. YESSSSSSSSSSSS!! Got it, the fault was with both relays, 109 and 103. Both were much smaller than my faulty originals! I managed to dig my Wife's car out of the snow and get myself over to Skoda for both relays, even managed a 10% discount It was ticking over on the drive for 40 minutues tonight while I cleared 6inches of fresh snow. God I hate this white stuff!! The M8 has been closed for 10 hours today, why oh why did I decide to take a holiday instrad, Doh! Thanks for all af your help. Mark.
  8. My relay 109 was translucent, not grey or black, the link I supplied was just someone else that found the same problem. Both relays and sockets have been tested with a multimeter and treated to a new can of contact cleaner. I have tested the coil resistance and contact resistance. All seems fine. I am an elecronic engineer to trade so I should know what I'm doing... I will leave a reply once I get to my local Skoda dealer tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far. Mark.
  9. Hmm, took relay 109 out and resoldered the dry joint (pictured here: http://www.hej456.com/109.html ) refitted and the car has the exact same fault. I left the cover off the relay and noticed it wasn't opening when the car was stuttering! I traced the fault to relay 103, glowplug relay I believe. Removed this and resoldered it's pcb. The car still has the same fault......... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I started the car and removed relay 103, runs fine and stutters less. I am off to Skoda in the morning to buy two relays, a 103 and 109. Anybody seen this fault before?? Cheers, Mark.
  10. I had read about this causing various problems, I can hear a relay clicking like mad from the drivers seat so I'll replace it and let you know. Thanks for your help Mark
  11. Hi all, I have a W reg 1.9tdi GLX engine code AGR, the weather up here has been really cold of late, over 1m of snow and the car is playing up! Typical. Last night I came out of work and started the engine while I cleared the snow from the car. The engine was ticking over for no more than 2 minutes when it stumbled. Thought it was a bit strange as it's never missed a beat in the 3 years I've owned it. God was I wrong! It took 30 minutes to limp home as the glow plug light flashed and the stuttered and cut out twice, started first turn of the key after the stall. The MPG computer was also playing up showing current consumption at 97mpg and average at 16.9mpg. I reset it via the stalk button and it read current consumption at 67.5mpg and average at 99.9mpg. When I got home I plugged in the cheap ebay cable and fired up VAG-COM, faults below: VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S Chassis Type: 1U - Skoda Octavia Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,19,35,46,56 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 01: Engine Controller: 038 906 018 GM Component: 1,9l R4 EDC 0000SG 2162 Coding: 00002 Shop #: WSC 31480 3 Faults Found: 01282 - Intake Manifold Flap change-over Valve (N239) 31-10 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent 16989 - Internal control module rom error P0605 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate 17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer P1570 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate Readiness: N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 03: ABS Brakes Controller: 1J0 907 379 P Component: ABS 20 IE CAN 0001 Coding: 03304 Shop #: WSC 31480 2 Faults Found: 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent 01314 - Engine Control Module: No Communications 49-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent I knew about the ABS fault, working on it!! Now I left the car ticking over on the drive while reading some blocks on VAG-COM, the engine stalled a further four times within 15min. Strange thing was after the stutter some of the glow plugs would turn on, all glow plugs checked at 2.1 ohms. I cleared the faults and even after the car stuttering and stalling there were no new faults stored!! One strange thing, when I was listening inside the emgine bay the boost solenoid valve thing (on the right above the gearbox) was chattering away. I couldn't find any leaky or broken vacuum pipes. Has anybody seen this weird fault before?? Thanks, Mark.
  12. I'll second that, bit pink for me too Thanks to all for the photo's and advice, I ended up with the dark grey seats from the MK4 Golf and I am very, very happy with the results. Just the carpet to sort out now, anyone know if you get them in darker colours as mine is light grey stays clean for about 5 seconds with two kids I might even post a piccie or two if I can figure out how :p Cheers, Mark.
  13. If it's the immobiliser ring then sureley the key light would flash?? I had a problem with non starting on New Years Day, of all the times... Grrrrr... anyway it turned out to be the braided wire going from the starter motor solenoid into the starter motor (+12v feed) For a couple of days before this the car wouldn't turn over. I soldered a piece of copper pipe onto the starter motor contact an bolted it onto the solenoid. Put heatshrink tubing on before fitting. Hope that helps.
  14. Wow that was fast!! Looks good, thank you for the piccie. I have an old W reg ex taxi and the drivers seat is quite worn, usual place.. but this chap is selling a lovely dark grey velour type seats and I can't resist!! The Wife has always found the Ocy front seats really uncomfortable, not me tho, well padded posterior ;o) Cheers big chap, Mark.
  15. Hi all, I'm going to replace my Octavia interior and have read on this very board that Golf Mk4 front seats fit with no problems. Has anyone tried the rear seats? Just thought I would ask before shelling out for a lovely set form a TDi. My Octavia is an older one with no airbags in the seats, just driver and passenger front ones. Thanks in advance, Mark.
